December 18, 2013

Exodus 14:13-13 AMP … … “Fear not; stand still (firm, confident, undismayed) and see the salvation of the Lord which He will work for you today. For the Egyptians you have seen today you shall never see again.
14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace and remain at rest.”

From  Ex 14:13-14

  • salvation[03444] = deliverance, victory, health, welfare
  • stand still[03320] = stand firm without fleeing, station yourself -> that you may see[07200]
  • … NLT … The LORD himself will fight for you. You won’t have to lift a finger in your defense!”

Proverbs 21:31 AMP …  The horse is prepared[03559] for the day of battle, but deliverance and victory are of the Lord.

Psalm 57:7 … My heart is steadfast{fixed}[03559], O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise.

Compromise or Stand Firm?

September 11, 2013

Is the word of God being compromised for the sake of unity? Or some other noble ideal? Is the ‘whole’ tolerating the compromise of  ’some’ to preserve ‘peace’?

Compromise or Stand Firm?

From Rev Heather Butler
Ever wondered about the word compromise, I have this week, wondering what it really means when we say that if we cant come into agreement then we compromise, all sounds rather amicable and sensible, but, wait a minate, lets look at that word again.

If something has been compromised it means infiltrated by another party you get the picture. So lets split the word up, there are three parts to it, co which equals more than one person, the m in the middle which we will call me and promise. So now there are two people with one promise that has to be watered down and broken, because one wants to honour it and the other wants to change it, so now the promise is compromised.

See how easily the enemy can creep in, its subtle isnt it, we take the word of God just as satan did in the garden, he speaks and says to Eve “did God really say that” giving her the excuse that she wanted to continue in her quest to bite the fruit, the rest is history. That sneaky snake is still at it today, enabling the church to compromise the word of God to fit in with their thoughts rather than what God really thinks.

Its worth being reminded that no matter who we are, the word says what it says, that God is the same yesterday today and forever, he changeth not, like Eve we are offered a compromise. Serious stuff and food for thought. Night God bless everyone.

Proverbs 25:26 AMP … Like a muddied fountain and a polluted spring is a righteous man who yields, falls down, and compromises his integrity before the wicked.

From NetBible Pr 25:26

  • “to stamp; to tread; to foul by treading [or, by stamping].” BDB 952 s.v. defines it here as a “fountain befouled.” The picture is one of a spring of water where men and beasts gather and muddy it by their trampling in and out of it.
  • “to give way; to move.” This probably refers to the integrity of the righteous being lost – comparing it to moving [off course]. T. T. Perowne writes, “To see a righteous man moved from his steadfastness through fear or favour in the presence of the wicked is as disheartening as to find the stream turbid and defiled at which you were longing to quench your thirst” (Proverbs, 161). But the line may refer to the loss of social standing and position by the righteous due to the plots of the wicked – just as someone muddied the water, someone made the righteous slip from his place.

2 Timothy 4:2-4 NASB … Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, 4 and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.

John 14:23 … Jesus answered, If a person [really] loves Me, he will keep My word [obey My teaching]; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home (abode, special dwelling place) with him.

From NetBible Jn 14:23

  • keep[5083] = to attend to carefully, take care of, guard

Stand Firm!

Isaiah 7:9 NIV … If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.

From NetBible Is 7:9

  • MSG … If you don’t take your stand in faith, you won’t have a leg to stand on.
  • the Lord here addresses the entire Davidic family and court. (Verse 4 was addressed to the king.) There is a wordplay in the Hebrew text, designed to draw attention to the alternatives set before the king (cf.1:20). “Believe” (תַאֳמִינוּ, ta’aminu) is a Hiphil form of the verbאָמָן (’aman); “endure” (תֵאָמֵנוּ, te’amenu) is a Niphal form of this same verb.

There are only 2 choices:
Stand firm in your faith and endure

Be careful, keep calm, don’t be afraid or intimidated -Is7:4
Be willing and obedient
Listen to, keep/guard My words -Is1:19;Jn14:23,21

Or
Don’t stand(compromise) and fall

Rebel and be devoured by the sword
From NetBible Is1:19-20

  • The wordplay in the Hebrew draws attention to the options. The people can obey, in which case they will “eat” v. 19 (תֹּאכֵלוּ [to’khelu], Qal active participle of אָכַל) God’s blessing, or they can disobey, in which case they will be devoured (Heb “eaten,” תְּאֻכְּלוּ, [tÿ’ukkÿlu], Qal passive/Pual of אָכַל) by God’s judgment.

Revelation 2:12-17 …     Then to the angel (messenger) of the assembly (church) in *Pergamum write: These are the words of Him Who has and wields the sharp two-edged sword:

13 I know where you live–a place where Satan sits enthroned. [Yet] you are clinging to and holding fast My name, and you did not deny My faith, even in the days of Antipas, My witness, My faithful one, who was killed (martyred) in your midst–where Satan dwells. 14 Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: you have some people there who are clinging to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to set a trap and a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, [to entice them] to eat food that had been sacrificed to idols and to practice lewdness [giving themselves up to sexual vice]. 15 You also have some who in a similar way are clinging to the teaching of the Nicolaitans [those corrupters of the people] which thing I hate. 16 Repent [then]! Or else I will come to you quickly and fight against them with the sword of My mouth.

17 He who is able to hear, let him listen to and heed what the Spirit says to the assemblies (churches). To him who overcomes (conquers), I will give to eat of the manna that is hidden, and I will give him a white stone with a new name engraved on the stone, which no one knows or understands except he who receives it.

From NetBible Rev2:12

  • Pergamos[4010] = “height or elevation”
*from purgos[4444] = watch or high tower
    … and gamos[1062] = marriaae wedding
—> Pergamum = married to the high tower
For the sake of unity the whole tolerate some and compromise the Word. Perhaps the high tower is unity – unity without truth is an idol and myth!
Stand firm!

It’s better to stand alone with the truth, than to be united in error with the multitude!

Proverbs 10:25When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever{has an everlasting foundation}.

Isaiah 26:4Trust in the LORD forever, for in GOD the LORD, we have an everlasting Rock.

Those whose hope is firmly planted in the Lord stand firm.
This hope is an anchor for the soul!
-Heb 6:17-20

Do not be afraid
Stand firm and you will see
The deliverance the LORD will bring you today
The LORD will fight for you
You need only to be still and hold your peace.
Exo 14:13-14

Hebrews 10:35-37 NLT …  So do not throw away this confident
trust in the Lord, no matter what happens. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that He has promised. For in just a little while, the Coming One will come and not delay.

Hebrews 10:23Let us hold fast the confession of our hope{in Christ Jesus} without wavering, for He who promised is faithful!

Psalm 40:1-3I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in Him.

Stand firm on the Rock and praise!

Psalms 18:46The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Saviour!

Psalm 107:1-2,43Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His unfailing love endures forever. Let the redeemed of the LORD say so — those whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy. … Whoever is wise, let him heed these things{take all this to heart} and consider the great love{and mercies} of the LORD.

His unfailing love and mercies ENDURE FOREVER!
They never come to an end or run out

From NetBible Ps 107:1

endures forever[05769] = unending, perpetual, permanent, age to age, for all time

Nothing can separate me from His unfailing love and mercies! -Rom 8:37-39

It’s only because of the LORD’s unfailing love and mercies that
we are not consumed and
we have a firm place to stand.
-Lam 3:21-23;Ps 40:1-3

.

Stand Firm Sure Secure

Give thanks to the LORD for He is good
Forever His unfailing love and mercies endure

Faithful and True
Every morning new
We are not consumed

Stand firm, stand sure
Stand secure
Forever His mercies endure

Stand firm, stand sure
Stand secure
ENDURE!
.

So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord, no matter what happens. Remember the great reward it brings you! Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess his name. -Heb 13:15

Faith – Hold Fast!

February 19, 2009

A mighty oak tree comes from a little nut who holds its ground!

Though your beginning was small, yet your latter end would increase abundantly. -Job 8:7 NKJV

Do not despise small beginnings
Do not despair at the mighty mountain of obstacles before you.

Let every valley be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; And let the rough ground become a plain, and the rugged terrain a broad valley; Then the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all flesh will see it together; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.
-Isa 40:4-5

The mountain before you will be flattened by the LORD’s hand
For its not by power nor by might but by My Spirit
… declares the LORD.
The foundation has been laid
It will be completed and perfected
… by the author and finisher of your faith
Stand firm in full assurance on the foundation of your faith
The *substance of things hoped for,
… the evidence of things not seen
Hold fast! He who promised is faithful.

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. -Heb 10:22-25

Zech 4:6-10 NLT   Then he said to me, “This is what the LORD says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the LORD Almighty. Nothing, not even a mighty mountain, will stand in Zerubbabel’s way; it will flatten out before him! Then Zerubbabel will set the final stone of the Temple in place, and the people will shout: “May God bless it! May God bless it”. Then another message came to me from the LORD: “Zerubbabel is the one who laid the foundation of this Temple, and he will complete it. Then you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me. Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand. For these seven lamps represent the eyes of the LORD that search all around the world.”

Hebrews 11:1    Now faith is the *substance[5287] of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

From Netbibe: http://classic.net.bible.org/verse.php?book=Heb&chapter=11&verse=1

Faith – Keep Walking!

By Faith

2 Timothy 4:16-18   At my first defense, no one came to my support, but all deserted me. May it not be held against them. But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Psalm 23:4   Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

Even in the darkest valley, in the shadow of death
Where no light, no life by the natural eye can be seen
Walk by faith, not by sight –2 Cor 5:7

He lights the way for those who earnestly wait to follow His lead
By His Spirit He will help you see. –1 Cor 2:9-10; Isa 64:4

He will not fail you or forsake you. –Deut 31:6

Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, until the destroying storms pass by.

I am in the midst of lions; I lie among ravenous beasts—men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords.

My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise. Awake, my soul! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn.

Be exalted above the heavens, O God;
Let Your glory be above all the earth. –Ps 57:1,4,7,8,11
