Worship in the Beauty of Holiness

I Will Worship You
by Matthew Ward

Chorus
I will worship You in the beauty of holiness
And I will worship You for the things You’ve done in me
And when my life’s complete
I’ll place my crown at Your feet
And I will worship You my King on bended knee.

Psalm 96:6-9   Splendor and majesty are before Him, strength and beauty are in His sanctuary. Ascribe to the LORD, O families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Give to the LORD the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come into His courts. Oh, worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness{holy attire, glory of the King}! Fear{tremble, kneel} before Him, all the earth.

Who may come and bow before the King? To worship in the beauty of holiness?

  • He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood and has not sworn deceitfully. –Ps 24:4
  • He who walks with integrity, and works righteousness, and speaks truth in his heart. –Ps 15:2
  • He who walks righteously and speaks with sincerity, He who rejects unjust gain and shakes his hands so that they hold no bribe; He who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed and shuts his eyes from looking upon evil; –Isa 33:15
  • He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? -Mic 6:8
  • Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. –Ps 2:11

The Bride adorned in holy attire.

  • I will rejoice greatly in the LORD, my soul will exult in my God; For He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. –Isa 61:10
  • To provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of His splendour{that He may be glorified}. -Isa 61:3
  • The ransomed of the LORD will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away. -Isa 35:10, 51:11
  • Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart -Prov 3:3
  • Let not your beauty come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewellery and fine clothes. – rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. -1 Pe 3:3-4
  • Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. -Col 3:12-15

Isaiah 52:1      Awake, awake, Clothe yourself in your strength, O Zion; Clothe yourself in your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city; For the uncircumcised and the unclean will no longer come into you.

The Bride who has surrendered and allowed the circumcision of her heart by the double-edged sword, AND whose soul has been purified by ‘walking’ in obedience to the truth.

Hebrews 4:11-12      Let us therefore be zealous and exert ourselves and strive diligently to enter that rest [of God, to know and experience it for ourselves], that no one may fall or perish by the same kind of unbelief and disobedience [into which those in the wilderness fell]. For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.

1 Peter 1:22-25   Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart, for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God. For,

         “ALL FLESH IS LIKE GRASS,
AND ALL ITS GLORY LIKE THE FLOWER OF GRASS.
         THE GRASS WITHERS,
         AND THE FLOWER FALLS OFF,

BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER ”
And this is the word which was preached to you.

The Bride adorned in holy attire may come and worship before the King, she may enter His rest, this wonderful place of abiding in the beauty of holiness.

Revelation 21:2      And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.

Matthew 5:8     Blessed (happy, enviably fortunate, and spiritually prosperous–possessing the happiness produced by the experience of God’s favor and especially conditioned by the revelation of His grace, regardless of their outward conditions) are the pure in heart, for they shall see God!

O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness!
    Bow down before him, his glory proclaim;
with gold of obedience, and incense of lowliness,
kneel and adore him: the Lord is his Name!

Thank you Matthew Ward for that beautiful post, “Worship in the Beauty of Holiness.” It’s such a vital yet neglected theme in our entertainment-crazy world. So good to see it emphasized. God bless you brother.

[…] in Europe—have painted on the front wall of their places of worship the words,“Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness” (Psalm 29:2). Holiness is an inner reflection in a man or woman of a holy God. […]

You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I
find this matter to be actually something which I
think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and
extremely broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I will
try to get the hang of it!
