A Way Will Be Opened

June 29, 2009

Exodus 14:13-16 AMP    Moses told the people, Fear not; stand still (firm, confident, undismayed) and see the salvation of the Lord which He will work for you today. For the Egyptians you have seen today you shall never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace and remain at rest. The Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward! ” Lift up your rod and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, and the Israelites shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.

Moses and the Israelites were being pursued by Pharaoh and his army. There was no way back. Surrounded by mountains, desert and the Red Sea, the was no way of escape, no way out. They were no match for Pharoah’s army, they couldn’t move the mountains or dry up the sea. What could they do?

Moses told the people, Fear not; stand still (firm, confident, undismayed) and see the salvation of the Lord which He will work for you today. For the Egyptians you have seen today you shall never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace and remain at rest.

Then the Lord said to move forward. The Lord showed them the way thru! As they obeyed and moved forward step by step a way was opened up before them.

Today if you are hemmed in by insurmountable problems, look up and remember the One who makes a way where there is no way, remember the One who is the Way! The One who says, “Don’t be afraid. Trust Me. Stand still and see what I will do. Go forward, I will lead you step by step. I AM with you”.

Let your faith enable you to stand still and let the Lord open the way before you. Look up!

Proverbs 4:11-13 AMP    I have taught you in the way of skillful and godly Wisdom [which is comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God]; I have led you in paths of uprightness. When you walk, your steps shall not be hampered [your path will be clear and open]; and when you run, you shall not stumble. Take firm hold of instruction, do not let go; guard her, for she is your life.

Go forward step by step, the way will be opened. Take each day step by step, each day is a gift from the Lord. This is the day that the Lord has made – rejoice and be glad in it(Ps 118:24)! Let the Lord lead the way, follow close in His steps as He leads you. Look up!

John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”.

Lead Me to the Higher Rock

June 26, 2009

Psalm 61:2 AMP
From the end of the earth will I cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed and fainting; lead me to the rock that is higher than I [yes, a rock that is too high for me].

A rock I can not reach on my own
A rock that I must be placed upon ….

A firm place to stand.

Psalm 40:1-3 AMP
I WAITED patiently and expectantly for the Lord; and He inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up out of a horrible pit [a pit of tumult and of destruction], out of the miry clay (froth and slime), and set my feet upon a rock, steadying my steps and establishing my goings. And He has put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many shall see and fear (revere and worship) and put their trust and confident reliance in the Lord.

Psalm 5:11-12 AMP
But let all those who take refuge and put their trust in You rejoice; let them ever sing and shout for joy, because You make a covering over them and defend them; let those also who love Your name be joyful in You and be in high spirits. For You, Lord, will bless the [uncompromisingly] righteous [him who is upright and in right standing with You]; as with a shield You will surround him with goodwill (pleasure and favor).

Exodus 33:22
… I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand …

Lord lead me to the Rock that is higher! Set my feet upon the Rock, a firm place to stand. O Lord, cover me with Your mighty hand. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings. Give me Your word for such a time as this. Put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise, a sacrifice of joy to our God. That many shall see and fear (revere and worship) and put their trust and confident reliance in our Lord Jesus Christ.

O LORD lead me to a Rock that is higher than I. Lift me up!

Isaih 51:9-16 AMP
[Zion now cries to the Lord, the God of Israel] Awake, awake, put on strength and might, O arm of the Lord; awake, as in the ancient days, as in the generations of long ago. Was it not You Who cut Rahab [Egypt] in pieces, Who pierced the dragon [symbol of Egypt]? Was it not You Who dried up the Red Sea, the waters of the great deep, Who made the depths of the sea a way for the redeemed to pass over? [Why then are we left so long in captivity?] [The Lord God says] And the redeemed of the Lord shall return and come with singing to Zion; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

I, even I, am He Who comforts you. Who are you, that you should be afraid of man, who shall die, and of a son of man, who shall be made [as destructible] as grass, That you should forget the Lord your Maker, Who stretched forth the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth, and fear continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, when he makes ready to destroy or even though he did so? And where is the fury of the oppressor? The captive exile and he who is bent down by chains shall speedily be released; and he shall not die and go down to the pit of destruction, nor shall his food fail. For I am the Lord your God, Who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar and Who by rebuke restrains it–the Lord of hosts is His name.

And I have put My words in your mouth and have covered you with the shadow of My hand, that I may fix the [new] heavens as a tabernacle and lay the foundations of a [new] earth and say to Zion, You are My people.

Lift Up Your Eyes

June 24, 2009

Lift up your eyes
Know where your help comes from.

I lift up my eyes to the hills — where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. -Ps 121:1-2

Know NOTHING is too hard for the Sovereign LORD!

Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you. -Jere 32:17

Know that the Lord is good, His love and mercy never fail.

Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His love endures forever. -Ps 106:1

Know that the Lord is faithful.

The one who calls you is faithful and He will do it. -1 Thess 5:24

Know that the Lord watches over you.

The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand. – Ps 121:5

Lift up your eyes
Know where your help comes from
Be still

Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.
The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Selah -Ps 46:10-11

You cannot be still and know unless you lift up your eyes to I AM.

I Lift My Eyes Up
Brian Doerksen (taken from Psalm 121)

I lift my eyes up to the mountains
Where does my help come from
My help comes from You
Maker of heaven, Creator of the earth
I lift my eyes up to the mountains
Where does my help come from
My help comes from You
Maker of heaven, Creator of the earth

Oh how I need You Lord
You are my only hope
You’re my only prayer
So I will wait for You
To come and rescue me
Come and give me life

Psalm 121:1-2    I lift up my eyes to the hills — where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.

Why does the psalmist say I lift up my eyes to the “hills” instead of the “Lord”? From the Netbible hills [02022], the majesty, height and power of the mountains reaching up to the heavens above the clouds led people to associate these hills or mountains with gods. So looking to the hills or mountains is another way to say look to the power and majesty of the gods — but doesn’t really specify which God? The amplified version sheds more light on this.

Psalm 121:1 AMP    I WILL lift up my eyes to the hills [around Jerusalem, to sacred Mount Zion and Mount Moriah]–From whence shall my help come?

The psalmist was saying I lift up my eyes to the hills, meaning the specific hills of Mount Zion and Moriah. These are not just any hills that the psalmist is looking up to, these hills are closely associated with the Lord Most High, the Maker of heaven and earth! Zion is the Lord’s chosen dwelling place forever, the place where He is enthroned.

Psalm 132:13-14   For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His dwelling place: “This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it”.

Psalm 2:6   I have installed My King On My holy hill of Zion.

Psalm 9:11   Sing praises to the LORD, enthroned in Zion; proclaim among the nations what he has done.

Mount Moriah is where Abraham offered up Isaac, his only true beloved son, as a sacrifice to the Lord(Gen 22:1-19). Here the Lord himself provides the lamb for sacrifice. This points to the sacrifice of Jesus as the Lamb of God(Jn 1:29,36), God’s only beloved Son(Jn 3:16; Mt 3:17, 17:5).

Wow! The Psalmist by saying I lift up my eyes to the hills{ Mount Zion and Mount Moriah} is actually saying to focus on the Lord’s dwelling place, majesty and  presence and to remember Jesus the Lamb of God, His blood sacrifice. It’s only by the blood of the Lamb, Jesus,  that we can come into the presence of a Holy God and know where our help comes from – the Maker of heaven and earth, the Sovereign Lord.

Psalm 123:1   To You I lift up my eyes, O You who are enthroned in the heavens!

Follow His Light

June 23, 2009

Psalm 143:8,10    Let the morning bring me word of  Your unfailing love{lovingkindness}; For I trust in You; Teach me the way in which I should walk; For to You I lift up my soul.

Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness.

It is good to seek the Lord earnestly
To lift up your soul to Him early in the morning.

O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. -Ps 63:1

For His mercies anew.  Great is His faithfulness.    -Lam 3:23
His Spirit is good to show the way in which to walk.

The path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines brighter and brighter until the full day. -Prov 4:18

Let His word be a lamp to your feet
A light for your path. -Ps 119:105
By His light walk safely thru the darkness
Into the land of righteousness.
Seek HIm and follow His path of light.

Psalm 112:4
Even in darkness light dawns for the upright,
For the gracious and compassionate and righteous.

Right Path

Restore the Joy

June 22, 2009

Psalm 10:1   Why do You stand afar off, O LORD? Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble?

Is this your cry today? Are you in the midst of a trial or battle feeling alone as if the Lord is far off?

Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble?   It’s not the trial or trouble that causes this cry, it’s the hiding of our Father’s face. Why would it ever feel as if our Father’s face was hidden to us? Especially if you remember His promises?

  • God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. -Ps 46:1
  • … lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. -Mt 28:20
  • When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. -Isa 43:2
  • He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” -Heb 13:5-6

There may be more than one answer as to why it feels as if the Lord’s face is hidden. Could it be that it is not the Lord who has moved away?

Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; let the bones which You have broken rejoice. Hide Your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean{pure} heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit. -Ps 51:7-12

Whiter than Snow{prayer}

Remember the Thorns

June 19, 2009

Hebrews 12:2-3      Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

A Fine Lamp

June 18, 2009

A great light has come to those who sit in darkness. The darkness cannot overcome it. Bear witness to the light. Glory is revealed with faith as a seal. Shine! You are a city on a hill. Shine! Do not cover what God makes known. Let your light shine. What a sight to see. Freedom has glory. Fear hides in the garden. Do not kick against His word to you. Press toward your high calling in Christ. Looking back will stop you in your tracks. The author and finisher is a lamp and light to your feet on the path ahead. Your sign is salt that has a Savior. You do not bear the cross with shame. Shine! The world cannot take joy from those who sit at his feet like Mary. The better part is reserved for you. Bear the Good News to all that need to see the love of God, the precious seed that bears much fruit. How will they hear if you do not proclaim? Speak and the deaf will hear and the lame will walk and the poor will have the Good News. Set free the captive. Shine!

Byron Putnam

2 Corinthians 4:3-4      But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the  light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.

We need the light to shine!
We also need eyes opened – sight to see it.
There is no sight without light, but there can be light without sight.

Lord Jesus, open the eyes of those sitting in darkness that they might see
Your light — the Light of the world!

Patient Endurance

June 17, 2009

Hebrews 10:36    *Patient endurance is what you need now, so you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that He has promised.

Patient endurance is what is needed now
Patient endurance and TRUST.

God is not a man, that He should tell or act a lie, neither the son of man, that He should feel repentance or compunction [for what He has promised]. Has He said and shall He not do it? Or has He spoken and shall He not make it good? -Num 23:19 AMP

Why is this perseverance and persistence so important to the Lord?
Why is “ask and keep on asking” the pattern He prefers? -Lk 18:1
Are you at the crossroads today? Facing a faith crisis? Facing seemingly unanswered prayer?

This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” -Jere 6:16

Don’t give up! Hold fast! Keep asking and
TRUST that the Lord will answer and guide in His perfect timing and way.
Do not lose heart!
His mercies are new each day for He who has promised is faithful!
These trials and tribulations are producing in us a character and hope
A treasure in a jar of clay
The fruit of patient abiding
A glory that far outweighs any trial we have to endure
A glory that is eternal.

Hold fast! Stand! Ask for and continue to do God’s will
Patiently endure
Persist and persevere.

You will receive ALL that He has promised
Rejoice in the hope of the glory of God!

2 Corinthians 4:7 We have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.

Romans 5 NKJV
Faith Triumphs in Trouble

1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

2 Corinthians 4:17-18 New Living Translation
For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

*patient endurance – hupomone [5281]
1) steadfastness, constancy, endurance
1a) in the NT the characteristic of a man who is not swerved from
his deliberate purpose and his loyalty to faith and piety by
even the greatest trials and sufferings
1b) patiently, and steadfastly
2) a patient, steadfast waiting for
3) a patient enduring, sustaining, perseverance

Psalm 118:24   This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice[01523] and be glad[08055] in it.

rejoice – giyl [01523]
The root denotes circling or spinning around in great joy, dancing a vigorous enthusiastic expression of joy.

glad – samach [08055]
The root denotes being glad with the whole disposition as indicated by its association with the heart(Ex 4:14;Ps 19:8;Ps 104:15;Ps 105:3), the soul(Ps 86:4) and the lighting up of the eyes(Prov 15:30).

2 Samuel 6:12   Now it was told King David, saying, “The LORD has blessed the house of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, on account of the ark of God.” David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom into the city of David with gladness[08055].

Let the Redeemed Say So!

June 8, 2009

Psalm 107:1-9 NKJV
Thanksgiving to the LORD for His Great Works of Deliverance

1 Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good!
For His mercy{His loyal loving kindness} endures forever.
2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so,
Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy,
3 And gathered out of the lands,
From the east and from the west,
From the north and from the south.

4 They wandered in the wilderness in a desolate way;
They found no city to dwell in.
5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
6 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble,
And He delivered them out of their distresses.
7 And He led them forth by the right way,
That they might go to a city for a dwelling place.
8 Oh, that men would give thanks{praise} to the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!
9 For He satisfies the longing{thirsty} soul,
And fills the hungry soul with goodness.

Those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, after the Lord Jesus, and communion with Him, shall be filled with the goodness of the glory of His house, both in grace and mercy. Yokes destroyed and captives set free from the hand of the enemy! They shall be established, a city for a dwelling place of the Lord.

O that men would praise the Lord for His goodness!
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so!
By the blood of the Lamb they are freed!
Praise the Lord for His goodness and His wonderful works!
Offer up thanksgiving to the LORD for His great works of deliverance!

Thank You Lord that we are redeemed by Your mighty hand by the blood of the Lamb, our Lord Jesus Christ. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so! O that all the redeemed would say so! O let the redeemed praise You Lord, for Your goodness, for the wonderful work of Your hands.

O let all those You are drawing, revere Your Holy name and give You glory{honor and praise in worship}! Let them fall down before Your throne Lord, to praise You for the beauty of Your holiness. Let them pay homage to You O Lord on bended knee in purity worshipping in the beauties of holiness.

Thank You Lord that Your mercy and loving kindness endure forever. You are faithful! Your mighty hand will never let the redeemed go. They will be brought forth in the right way, upheld by Your mighty right hand. They shall be established, a city for Your dwelling place. Hallelujah!

Psalm 111 AMP
1PRAISE THE Lord! (Hallelujah!) I will praise and give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart in the council of the upright and in the congregation.
2The works of the Lord are great, sought out by all those who have delight in them.

3His work is honorable and glorious, and His righteousness endures forever.

4He has made His wonderful works to be remembered; the Lord is gracious, merciful, and full of loving compassion.

5He has given food and provision to those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him; He will remember His covenant forever and imprint it [on His mind].

6He has declared and shown to His people the power of His works in giving them the heritage of the nations [of Canaan].

7The works of His hands are [absolute] truth and justice [faithful and right]; and all His decrees and precepts are sure (fixed, established, and trustworthy).

8They stand fast and are established forever and ever and are done in [absolute] truth and uprightness.

9He has sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His covenant to be forever; holy is His name, inspiring awe, reverence, and godly fear.

10The reverent fear and worship of the Lord is the beginning of [a]Wisdom and skill [the preceding and the first essential, the prerequisite and the alphabet]; a good understanding, wisdom, and meaning have all those who do [the will of the Lord]. Their praise of Him endures forever. [Job 28:28; Prov 1:7; Mt 22:37, 38; Rev 14:7]
