Drink Offering

September 28, 2009

Psalm 23:5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Psalm 116:12-17 What shall I render to the LORD for all His benefits toward me{all He has poured out on me}? I will lift up the cup of salvation{deliverance} and call on the name of the LORD. I will fulfil my vows to the LORD in the presence of all His people. Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. O LORD, truly I am your servant; I am your servant, the son of your maidservant; you have freed me from my chains. To You I shall offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and call upon the name of the LORD.

The overflowing cup, pouring forth, I never realized before that this image represents the pouring out of a drink offering!

In the Law they used to make a banquet when they gave solemn thanks to God, and to take the cup and drink is a sign of thanksgiving. The cup of salvation-the drink offering was part of the thank offering.

Numbers 15:3-5 ‘and you make an offering by fire to the LORD, a burnt offering or a sacrifice, to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering or in your appointed feasts, to make a sweet aroma to the LORD, from the herd or the flock, ‘then he who presents his offering to the LORD shall bring a grain offering of one–tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with one–fourth of a hin of oil; ‘and one–fourth of a hin of wine as a drink offering you shall prepare with the burnt offering or the sacrifice, for each lamb.

The drink offering is poured out on the burnt offering along with the grain offering mixed with oil. Lambs were used as burnt offerings. Jesus as our Passover Lamb (1 Cor 5:7) is a picture of a burnt offering. When Jesus says “my flesh is real{true} food and my blood is real{true} drink” (Jn 6:55) it’s a picture of His blood as a drink offering (Phil 2:17; 2 Tim 4:6) and His body as a grain offering; the wine and the bread.

The overflowing cup, pouring forth in abundance, because Christ first drank the cup His Father set before Him(Mt 26:42;Lk 22:20;1 Cor 11:25).

Isaiah 53:12 Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, and He will divide the booty with the strong; Because He *poured out Himself to death, and was numbered with the transgressors; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many, and interceded for the transgressors.

Philippians 2:5-11, 17 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation{emptied, poured out Himself}, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. … But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all.

It’s only because of Christ’s sacrifice that we can have communion with Him and with each other.

1 Corinthians 10:16-17 Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ? 17Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf.

How beautiful is the cup of salvation lifted up; a cup overflowing with thanksgiving for all Christ has and is pouring out on us. Blood poured out from the broken body of the spotless Passover Lamb. Spiritual drink, spiritual food offered and consumed in the presence of His people. Living water flowing in abundance from the Rock(1 Cor 10:3-4; Ex 17:6; Num 20:11; Ps 78:15 ) Sing to the well, the well of your salvation, with the rod of your mouth strike the Rock that it may yield it’s living water for all who are thirsty to drink(Num 21:16-18;Num 20:8;Isa 11:1-4;Rev 22:17)!

Hebrews 13:15 Through Him{Jesus} then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.

Stand for the Truth

September 23, 2009

From:  The Daily Spurgeon

“Never get into religious controversies,” says one; that is to say, being interpreted, be a Christian soldier, but let your sword rust in its scabbard, and sneak into heaven like a coward. Such advice I cannot endorse. If God has called you by the truth, maintain the truth, which has been the means of your salvation.

We are not to be pugnacious, always contending for every crotchet of our own; but wherein we have learned the truth of the Holy Spirit, we are not tamely to see that standard torn down which our fathers upheld at peril of their blood. This is an age in which truth must be maintained zealously, vehemently, continually. Playing fast and loose as many do, believing this today and that tomorrow, is the sure mark of children of wrath; but having received the truth, to hold fast the very form of it, as Paul bids Timothy to do, is one of the duties of heirs of heaven. Stand fast for truth, and may God give the victory to the faithful. We must believe the gospel and maintain it, for it is committed to our trust.

The Anchor Holds

September 21, 2009

These words from this song encouraged me today!

By Lawrence Chewning and Ray Boltz

I have journeyed
Through the long, dark night
Out on the open sea
By faith alone
Sight unknown
And yet His eyes were watching me

The anchor holds
Though the ship is battered
The anchor holds
Though the sails are torn
I have fallen on my knees
As I faced the raging seas
The anchor holds
In spite of the storm.

If you’ve ever been in a storm, you know its hard to see — especially when there is no light! On the raging sea its easy to become confused as your ship is battered, rocked and flung about. In the midst of the storm its hard to see that the anchor is holding.

Do you have an anchor to make it thru the storms of life?

Hebrews 6:16-20 Men swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument. Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.

Jesus is our hope — the anchor for our souls. He is the hope set before us — eternal life. He is also our present hope, available to us right now. Also note that this hope – this anchor of the soul — it’s deep within the inner sanctuary behind the curtain — a place Jesus has prepared for us…..

The death of Jesus torn this curtain (Mt 27:51) and gave each of us access to our present hope.

Why is this true? Because God does not lie; this is an unchangeable truth!

So when the storms come remember to anchor your hope in Jesus the immovable, unshakeable Rock everlasting! He is the one who sees to guide you safely thru any storm.

Matthew 7:24-27 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

To realize the worth of the anchor,
We need to feel the stress of the storm.

The storms of life prove the strength of our anchor
Jesus is the anchor that will always hold!

In the midst of the storm when its hard to see
Battered by the wind of the raging sea
Remember there is hope, an anchor for the soul
Firm and secure
Jesus the immovable, unshakeable Rock everlasting!
The One who sees to guide you safely thru any storm.

Jesus is the anchor for the soul
Firm and secure
The anchor that will never fail
So grab hold!

From Lyn McSweeney

Jesus our anchor through the storm

Jesus our rock when we’re reborn

Even though the winds will blow

Tall and stronger we will grow

Jesus our anchor through the storm

Jesus the one who made the way

Jesus by our side he stays

He is our strength he is our peace

He is the one who gives sweet release

Jesus our anchor through the storm

Jesus through all the firey trials

Jesus of whom there’s no denial

He is the gate he is the door

He was with Father way before

The Strength of Our Anchor

Carried Between His Shoulders

September 18, 2009

Come beloved

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. -Mt 11:28
Even vigorous young men grow weary and tired. -Isa 40:31

Come beloved
Come to Me as one of My precious children
I AM walks beside you and sees when your foot begins to slip
As a little child grows weary and turns to their Father for help
Come to Me with upraised arms
I will spread My wings and bear{lift} you up -Duet 32:11
I AM will not allow your foot to slip
I AM sees with eyes that never sleep. -Ps 121:3-4
I will joyfully carry you.

Come to Me beloved and find rest
For …
“The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by Him, Who shelters{covers} him all the day long; And he shall dwell between His shoulders.” -Deut 33:12

Praise be to the Lord, to God our Saviour, who daily bears our burdens. Selah -Ps 68:19

Luke 15:4-5   What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety–nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it , he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

This image of coming to our heavenly Father as a weary child with upraised arms really blessed and encouraged me. 🙂

What parent would not immediately pick up their child and carry them?
When I went to my dad like this, he would gladly pick me up and carry me high on his shoulders — much like Jesus who joyfully picks up and carries the lamb thats just been found!

Oh how I loved to be carried like this by my dad!

Lord help us each come to You as Your children with upraised arms for help. Thank You Lord that we can come confident that You will joyfully lift us up and carry us high between Your shoulders in safety and rest!

El Roi – God Who Sees

September 16, 2009

Where do you run when you feel alone and overwhelmed by your circumstances? When you need comfort? When you are about to faint?

The Name of the LORD is a strong tower, the righteous run into it and are safe. -Pr 18:10

Run to El Roi – the God who sees –Gen 16:13
He is also the God who hears your cries.
The ears of the Lord are open to your sorrow. –Gen 16:11

The righteous cry, and the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The LORD is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all. -Ps 34:17-19

Now the angel of the LORD found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, by the spring on the way to Shur. … Therefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi{the well of the living one who sees me}; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.-Gen 16:7,14

Run to El Roi – the God who sees –Gen 16:13
He is the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort
He provides comfort in all our afflictions.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. -2 Cor 1:3-4

Run to El Roi – the God who sees –Gen 16:13
He is also the God who cares.

The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him. -Nah 1:7

Run to El Roi – the God who sees –Gen 16:13
He who sees will open your eyes to see the answer, the way out.
The answer to your circumstance may be closer than you think.

Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water; and she went and filled the skin with water and gave the lad a drink. –Gen 21:19

Run to El Roi – the God who sees –Gen 16:13
He hears
He cares
He will sustain and deliver.

Come and drink from the well of the Living One who sees.
Be refreshed, renewed, safe, sustained and delivered.

Genisis 16:11 NASB The angel of the LORD said to her further, “Behold, you are with child, And you will bear a son; And you shall call his name *Ishmael, Because the LORD has given *heed to your affliction.

* Ishmael: that is, God shall hear

* heed – shama` [08085]
to hear (perceive by ear)

Sweet thought! We have a Friend above,
Our weary, faltering steps to guide,
He follows with His eye of love the precious ones for whom He died.

Nothing is Too Difficult

September 14, 2009

The Lord encouraged me with the following song and scripture this morning. Shortly after I read an email that had the image below! Maybe this will encourage you too.

I will lift up my eyes, I will lift up my eyes
Where does my help come from? –Ps 121:1-2

Let every mountain be made low
Every valley be lifted up
And the rough places made smooth. –Isa 40:4

By Your hand LORD, Your Sovereign hand.

I will lift up my eyes, I will lift up my eyes
Where does my help come from?

My help comes from You, LORD
Maker of heaven and earth.

By Your hand LORD, Your Sovereign hand.

Thank You Lord
There is nothing, absolutely nothing,
Nothing is too difficult for You!

Thank You Lord there is NO mountain too high
NO valley too low
where You the way, the truth and the life cannot make a way.

Thank You Lord
I know, I know You will carry me thru! –Ps 46:10
There is nothing, absolutely nothing,
Nothing is too difficult for You!

Jeremiah 32:17
Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.

Zechariah 4:6-9
So he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.

“What are you, O mighty mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground. Then he will bring out the capstone to shouts of ‘God bless it! God bless it!’ ”

Then the word of the LORD came to me: “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands will also complete it. Then you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me to you.

He Will Carry You

September 14, 2009

(Scott Wesley Brown)

There is no problem too big
God cannot solve it
There is no mountain too tall
He cannot move it
There is no storm too dark
God cannot calm it
There is no sorrow too deep
he cannot soothe it

Chorus :
If He carried the weight of the world
Upon His shoulders
I know my brother that He will carry you
If He carried the weight of the world
Upon His shoulders
I know my sisters that He will carry you

Bridge :
He said “Come unto Me
all who are weary
And I will give you rest”

Golden Oil Flowing

September 11, 2009

Lyn McSweeney wrote:

It adds the ‘golden oil’ flowing forth out of the engraved hands!
The same place the Lord has the name of His Dove engraved
The same place the Lord longs to hold and carry His Dove …

Zechariah 4:11-14
11Then I said to him [the angel who talked with me], What are these
two olive trees on the right side of the lampstand and on the left side of it?
12And a second time I said to him, What are these two olive branches
which are beside the two golden tubes or spouts by which{*[03027]} the golden oil is emptied out?
13And he answered me, Do you not know what these are? And I said,
No, my lord.
14Then said he, These are the two sons of oil [Joshua the high priest
and Zerubbabel the prince of Judah, the two anointed ones] who stand before the Lord of the whole earth [as His anointed instruments].

Come My Dove
Abide in Me, in My WORD
Beneath My wings golden oil pours forth continuously
From My nail pierced hands. -Zech 4:3

Come My Dove
… with outstretched wings {open cupped hands/bowls}
Ready to receive
My Dove, as you abide beneath My wings
Your outstretched wings will be saturated with My oil
Your feathers will shine and drip My gold. -Ps 68:13
Pour forth My Dove.

“O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, In the secret places of the cliff, Let me see your face, Let me hear your voice; For your voice is sweet, And your face is lovely.” -Song 2:13

See, out of the womb of dawn -Ps 110:3
Golden wings arise in the beauties of holiness
Wings anointed with healing
My Dove dripping the oil of joy -Isa 61:3
Golden oil from My nail pierced hands
Sing a new song, a song of praise
Sing My Dove, sing for joy in the shadow of My wings. –Ps 63:7

Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord. –Ps 40:3

Righteousness in full bloom
Praise on display before the nations
Captives set free!

Malachi 4:2 BBE
But to you who give worship{reverent fear} to my name, the sun of righteousness will come up with new life{healing} in its wings; and you will go out, playing like young oxen full of food.

Isaiah 61 MSG
10-11 I will sing for joy in God,
explode in praise from deep in my soul!
He dressed me up in a suit of salvation,
he outfitted me in a robe of righteousness,
As a bridegroom who puts on a tuxedo
and a bride a jeweled tiara.
For as the earth bursts with spring wildflowers,
and as a garden cascades with blossoms,
So the Master, God, brings righteousness into full bloom
and puts praise on display before the nations.

Engraved on the Palms of His Hand

September 8, 2009

If you only see one set of ‘footprints’ in the sand right now —
KNOW and TRUST that it is now that you are being carried.

Do not be afraid,
You are in His care, precious and honored in His sight –Isa 43:1-4
Engraved on the palms of His hands
Continually held in His gaze as the apple of His eye
He carries you. –Duet 32:10-11

Isaiah 49:15-16    Can a woman forget her nursing child and have no compassion on the son of her womb? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! Behold, I have engraved you{your name} on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.

Isaiah 46:3-4    Listen to Me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, you who have been upheld by Me from birth, who have been carried from the womb: Even to your old age and gray hairs, I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you, and I will carry you; Even I will sustain you, and I will deliver you.

Psalm 9:10     And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.

Stick to His Plan!

What Are Your Eyes Looking For?

September 1, 2009

What are your eyes looking for?
Where are they looking?
What do they see?

Are they looking for displays of power? Signs and wonders? Authority?

Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”

And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” -Lk 10:17-20

Have your eyes seen the power and authority of  I AM, yet still they seek a sign? More power, more authority?

I AM the bread rained down from heaven
This is your sign
This is your work
This is how eyes see and believe

Daily seek Me, My face, My will, My bread.
I AM the true bread of life rained down from heaven.

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'” -Mt 4:4

Lift up your eyes and continually seek My face.
Be guided by My eye. -Ps 32:8
See, My eye is upon those who fear Me
Upon those who daily hope in My mercies new. -Ps 33:18

John 6:26-40
26 Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27 Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”
28 Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?”
29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”
30 Therefore they said to Him, “What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do? 31 Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”
32 Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
34 Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.”
35 And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. 36 But I said to you that you have seen Me and yet do not believe. 37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39 This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. 40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”

Lift Up Your Eyes
Eyes {OH}

Psalm 42:1-6
1 As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, O God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?

3 My tears have been my food
       day and night,
while men say to me all day long,
       “Where is your God?”

4 These things I remember
as I pour out my soul:
how I used to go with the multitude,
leading the procession to the house of God,
with shouts of joy and thanksgiving
       among the festive throng.

5 Why are you downcast, O my soul?
       Why so disturbed within me?
       Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and 6 my God.
       My soul is downcast within me;
       therefore I will remember you
from the land of the Jordan,
the heights of Hermon—from Mount Mizar.

This is a test of true faith, faith refined as gold
To choose to hope in the Lord’s goodness and mercy
To choose to trust in the Lord’s faithfulness

No matter what our circumstances
No matter what our natural eyes ‘see’

Praising the Lord no matter what is an act of faith which lifts you from the depths to the heights! It also helps your spiritual eyes stay focused on Jesus letting His peace rule! When His peace rules, His power is released!

Habakkuk 3:16-19
I heard and my heart pounded, my lips quivered at the sound; decay
crept into my bones, and my legs trembled. Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity to come on the nation invading us. Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful(Giyl[01523]) in God my Savior. The Sovereign LORD is my strength;

He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, He enables me to go on the heights.

Colossians 3:12-17
12Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus
concerning you!!
