An Everlasting Song

April 24, 2010

Quote from Spurgeon’s Evening Devotional for August 28

“Sing, O barren.” -Isaiah 54:1

But what can I sing about? I cannot talk about the present, and even the past looks full of barrenness. Ah! I can sing of Jesus Christ. … Come, my soul, heavy laden thou wast once, and thou didst lose thy burden there. Go to Calvary again. Perhaps that very cross which gave thee life may give thee fruitfulness. What is my barrenness? It is the platform for his fruit-creating power. What is my desolation? It is the black setting for the sapphire of his everlasting love. I will go in poverty, I will go in helplessness, I will go in all my shame and backsliding, I will tell him that I am still his child, and in confidence in his faithful heart, even I, the barren one, will sing and cry aloud.

Psalm 30:5 For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.

Joy after weeping in tears
Morning light breaking thru the darkest night.

Sing, O, barren, sing
There is a song that never dies
A crown of everlasting joy and delight.

The desert will rejoice and blossom, as the rose
Barrenness a platform for His fruit creating power
Desolation the black-setting for the sapphire of His everlasting love.

Sing, O, barren sing
The song that never dies.

Jesus your strength
Your song
Your everlasting delight.

His praise endures forever –Ps 111:10
His word forever settled in heaven –Ps 119:89

An everlasting song of praise to awake the dawn
… and vanquish the night.

Isaiah 35:1,8,10 The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them, And the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose … And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness. The unclean will not journey on it; it will be for those who walk in that Way; wicked fools will not go about on it. … and the ransomed of the LORD will return{in this Way}. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.

Isaiah 54:1,11 Sing, O barren woman, you who never bore a child; burst into song, shout for joy, you who were never in labour; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband,” says the LORD. … O you afflicted one, Tossed with tempest, and not comforted, Behold, I will lay your stones with colorful gems, And lay your foundations with sapphires.

Exodus 15:2 The LORD is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation; He is my God, and I will praise{beautify,adorn with praise} Him; My father’s God, and I will exalt Him.

Psalm 57:7-9 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast;
I will sing and give praise.
Awake, my glory! Awake, lute and harp! I will awaken the dawn.
I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing to You among the nations.

You Are NOT Forgotten

April 20, 2010

.
Matthew 10:29-31 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. 30And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Two sparrows are sold for a penny.

Luke 12:6-7 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Five sparrows are sold for two pennies.

Beloved, today you may feel like the fifth sparrow
The one unseen that doesn’t count
Take heart
Don’t be afraid.

I AM sees the fifth sparrow
I AM sees you
You are worth more than many sparrows
You are not forgotten.

Nahum 1:7 The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble.
He cares for those who trust in Him.

Fowlers Snare

April 18, 2010

Many have been caught and trapped as a bird
In the fowlers snare
By lies prophesied by those who phopesy out of their own imaginations
They see delusion and their omens are a lie.

With a violent wind the whitewashed wall will be destroyed!

Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I am against your magic charms{used by false prophets} by which you hunt souls there like birds. I will tear them from your arms, and let the souls go, the souls you hunt like birds. 21I will also tear off your veils and deliver My people out of your hand, and they shall no longer be as prey in your hand. Then you shall know that I am the LORD. 22 Because with lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and you have strengthened the hands of the wicked, so that he does not turn from his wicked way to save his life. -Ezk 13:20-22

You who love the LORD – hate evil, expose it.
For He preserves the souls of His saints; He delivers them out of the
hand of the wicked. 11Light is sown like seed{planted} for the righteous and gladness for the upright in heart. 12Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous, And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name. -Ps 97:10-12

The fruit of Light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth.Eph 5:7-11

Psalm 124:6-8 Blessed be the LORD, Who has not given us as prey to their teeth. 7Our soul has escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers; The snare is broken, and we have escaped. 8Our help is in the name of the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.

Psalm 91:1-4 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide{rest} in the shadow of the Almighty. 2I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!”

3Surely He will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. 4He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness{truth} will be your shield and rampart{protection, buckler, protective wall}.

Psalm 31:1-5 In You, O LORD, I put my trust;
Let me never be ashamed;
Deliver me in Your righteousness.
2 Bow down Your ear to me,
Deliver me speedily;
Be my rock of refuge,
A fortress of defense to save me.

3 For You are my rock and my fortress;
Therefore, for Your name’s sake,
Lead me and guide me.
4 Pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me,
For You are my strength.
5 Into Your hand I commit my spirit;
You have redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.

Psalm 31:23-24 Oh, love the LORD, all you His saints!
For the LORD preserves the faithful,
And fully repays the proud person.
24 Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart,
All you who hope in the LORD.

He Who Has Ears!

April 13, 2010

Amos 8:11
Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord GOD, “That I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of HEARING[08085] {to hear intelligently, perceive, understand, obey} the words of the LORD.

These days are here …

What is deception? Is it not believing a lie because the truth is not
perceived —- intelligently heard?

Proverbs 2:1-5
My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, 2SO that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; 3Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, 4If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; 5 Then you will *understand[0995] the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

*understand[0995] – biyn
To perceive, discern, to understand, know (with the mind)

——> In order to see and believe the Son, you must receive His words and treasure His commands
——> If you do not receive His words and treasure His commands your ears will not be open
——> You will not understand{with your mind} the fear of the LORD or find the knowledge of God.

He who has ears, let him hear!Mark 4

True Food and True Drink

April 11, 2010

John 6:54-58 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. 56He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides{dwells} in Me, and I in him. 57As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on{consumes} Me will live because of Me. 58This is the bread which came down from heaven––not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats{consumes} this bread will live forever.

Eating true bread and drinking true drink results in

—> eternal life and the promise of resurrection at the last day

—> abiding with Jesus, mutual indwelling

Notice that seeing /looking on and believing the Son has the same result.

John 6:40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who *sees[2334] the Son and *believes[4100] in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

From Netbible Jn 6:40

note: Notice that here the result (having eternal life and being raised up at the last day) is produced by looking on the Son and believing in him. Compare John 6:54 where the same result is produced by eating Jesus’ flesh and drinking his blood. This suggests that the phrase in 6:54 (eats my flesh and drinks my blood) is to be understood in terms of the phrase here (looks on the Son and believes in Him).

*sees[2334] – theoreo
To see, to know, to experience, to perceive with the mind

*believes[4100] – pisteuo
To think to be true, conviction of truth,
To trust and have confidence in, intellectual faith

John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life[2227]{quickens}; the flesh{carnal mind[4561]} profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

Romans 8:6 To be carnally[4561] minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Romans 8:10-11 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin{the flesh profits nothing}, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also quicken[2227]{{give life to} your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Proverbs 2:1-5 My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, 2So that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; 3Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, 4If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; 5 Then you will *understand[0995] the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

Amos 8:11 Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord GOD, “That I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of HEARING[08085] {to hear intelligently, perceive, understand, obey} the words of the LORD.

As the Rain and Snow{Snowdrop}

April 8, 2010

God’s Snowdrop
Dave Hood

Beneath the sky, beneath My Tree
I look and see and I find thee
For there ‘neath shade and under My bough
I looking down I find head bowed
A single stalk, a single stem,
No ruby head, nor diadem
But cast as pearl a wonder am
Bestowed My eye a vision span
A forlorn head, a drop that cries,
That gathers there, in shade abide
In single, silent, not rank nor stair
I see thy bulb, it settles there
No glare, no magic, no trumpet crowd
No waving, weaving, chaotic grow
But you, your love, simply draped right there
Your single light, my heart clamours hear
And beats, and bursts, abounds with dare
I cast My shade, this drop that’s there
And pride and priceless pain is found
My God, My God I Am allowed
Embrace with wind and caress with rain
And wonder words my breath I train
To send the hues of forest there
With towers of pollen I pepper with care
This tender, tiny, yet tremulous can
Contain, by cover, My curtain I plan
To shelter, shower and season with air
So brittle, so little, so needy of care
I dare not look, with menace or glare
So pretty, so witty…my breath stops there
And kisses Me life, with your faintest nod
Your beauty, My duty, blessed flower of God
***
You may feel like a ‘bulb’ buried deep within the cold dark ground
Beloved do not lose heart! Believe!

I would have lost heart, unless I had believed
… That I would see the goodness of the LORD
… In the land of the living.
Wait on the LORD;
… Be of good courage,
… And He shall strengthen your heart;
… Wait, I say, on the LORD! -Ps 27:13-14 NLT

Beloved within each bulb there is a flower
A hidden promise
A beautiful treasure
Seen by My eye alone until its season.
Beloved believe! You are in My care.
My word will not return void!
In due time My beauty is unveiled
My word, a kiss of life
My flower revealed.

In the cold and snow of winter
In the bulb buried deep within the ground
There’s a spring that waits to be
A tiny snowdrop
A beautiful flower.

Courage is not the towering oak that sees storms come and go, it is the fragile blossom that opens in the snow.” ~Alice Mackenzie Swaim

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. -Jn 16:33

If peace be in the heart,
The wildest winter storm is full of solemn beauty,
The midnight flash but shows the path of duty,
Each living creature tells some new and joyous story,
The very trees and stones all catch a ray of glory,
If peace be in the heart.

–Charles Francis Richardson

Let the beauty and delightfulness and favor of the Lord our God be upon us; confirm and establish the work of our hands–yes, the work of our hands, confirm and establish it. -Ps 90:17

Song 4:9 AMP … You have ravished my heart and given me courage, my sister, my [promised] bride; you have ravished my heart and given me courage with one look from your eyes, with one jewel of your necklace.

Blessed Trust

April 6, 2010

Psalm 40:1-4
1I waited patiently for the LORD;
… And He inclined{turned} to me and heard my cry.
2He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire;
… He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.
3He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God;
… Many will see and fear and will trust in the LORD.
4Blessed is the *man[01397] who makes the LORD his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods{those falling away toward a lie}.

You may feel as if you are weak, sinking in the miry clay
Unable to save yourself.

But if you cry out and trust in the LORD
If you wait patiently, expectantly, and depend on Him alone
He will make you strong in His power and might
He will establish your steps
The steps of a mighty warrior.

But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired. -Isa 40:31 AMP

Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand. -Ps 149:6

Taste and see that the Lord is good!

Jer 17:7
*man – geber[01397]
1) man, strong man, warrior (emphasising strength or ability to fight)

Jeremiah 17:7-8 Blessed is the *man[01397] who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.

Psalm 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the *man[01397] who trusts{takes refuge} in Him!
