The Lord On My Side

June 30, 2010

Psalm 118:1,6 Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His love endures forever. … The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?

The Lord is on my side, He is with me
NO man can hurt me
And if an enemy they will be vanquished!

Psalm 56:9 ... When I cry out to You, then my enemies will turn back;
This I know, because God is for me.

Psalm 54:7 AMP For He has delivered me out of every trouble, and my eye has looked [in triumph] on my enemies.

Psalm 143:11-12 Revive me, O LORD, for Your name’s sake! For Your righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble. In Your mercy cut off{vanquish} my enemies, and destroy all those who afflict my soul; For I am Your servant.

Psalm 143:12 MSG In your great love, vanquish my enemies; make a clean sweep of those who harass me. And why? Because I’m your servant.

Our God is Greater
Chris Tomlin

Water You turned into wine
Open the eyes of the blind
There’s no one like You
None like You
Into the darkness You shine
Out of the ashes we rise
There’s no one like You
None like You

Our God is greater, our God is stronger
God You are higher than any other
Our God is Healer, awesome in power
Our God, Our God…

Into the darkness you shining
Out of the ashes we Rise
There’s no One like You
None like You.

And if Our God is for us, then who could ever stop us
And if our God is with us, then what can stand against?
And if Our God is for us, then who could ever stop us
And if our God is with us, then what can stand against?
What can stand against?

Bible Study: The Snare of Compare

The Snare of Compare
by Carolyn Mahaney

How do we respond when someone else gets what we want? We compare our situation to theirs. We measure our lot against theirs—especially if we think they have it better than we do.

Why can she eat whatever she wants and stay so skinny and I just look at a piece of chocolate and gain 5 pounds?

Why does she have that gorgeous face and I look so average?

Why can she barely study and make a 4.0, and I have to work so hard for a 2.5?

Why does she have such a beautiful voice and I can’t even carry a tune?

Why can she decorate and sew and paint and do photography, and I can’t even make a pillowcase?

Why does she get pregnant without trying and I am still infertile after all these years?

Why is she married at 20 and I am 35 with no man in sight?

Why does her husband lead their family and mine won’t initiate anything spiritual?

Why does she have a big beautiful home for just the two of them when our family of seven is still crammed into this little townhouse?

Ever had thoughts like these?

I knew I wasn’t alone. Whenever we face things in our lives that we don’t want but can’t change, we are tempted to sinfully compare ourselves with others.

The apostle Peter was also tempted to compare. In our new series we’ll consider what the Lord said to Him, and what He says to us.

Refresh Your Soul

June 23, 2010

Matthew 11:28-30 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.] 29Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest ( relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls. [Jer 6:16.] 20For My yoke is wholesome (useful, good — not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light and easy to be borne.

Psalm 114:7-8 Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob, 8Who turned the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a fountain of waters.

Come weary, weak, heavy-laden and overburdened
Come trembling
Come, come to the fountain, to the One who sustains life
Drink deeply, water from the Rock

Psalm 36:7-9 How priceless is Your unfailing{steadfast} love{mercy}, O God! Both high and low among men find refuge{shelter, cover} in the shadow of Your wings. 8They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house, And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures. 9For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.

Psalm 62:5-8 Find rest{wait quietly before God}, O my soul, in God alone; my hope{expectation} comes from Him. 6He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. 7In God is my salvation{victory} and my glory{honor}; The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. 8Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.

I was weary this morning. The Lord reminded me of this — to come to Him — He alone gives rest/refreshment. And after you drink — delight! Joy bubbles up like an overflowing fountain or waterfall{from the Rock}!

For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd;
He will lead them to springs of living water. -Rev 7:17

My times are in Your hands … -Ps 31:15

Past Still Waters
Karen Holland … 7-30-2008

Psalm 42:7
Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls;
All your waves and breakers have swept over me.

Beside still waters
Drink in His peace
Linger there awhile
Linger there, listen for His call
As deep calls out to deep
Be led farther upstream past the still waters, deeper …

Let the wellspring of joy come forth
From deep within your soul
Let joy bubble up, overflow
In the roar of His waterfalls
From the river of His delights
A fountain of life
Glorious unspeakable joy
Bursts into jubilant song
Taste and see
He is good!

Psalm 98:4,8
Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth,
Burst into jubilant song with music. …
Let the rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing together for joy!

1 Peter 1:8
Though you have not seen Him, you love Him;
And even though you do not see Him now,
You believe in Him and you rejoice
With a glorioius (unspeakable) inexpressible joy.

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!”
And let him who hears say, “Come!”
Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes,
Let him take the free gift of the water of life. -Rev 22:17

Past Still Waters
As the Deer

Nichole Nordeman

If I had the chance
To go back again
Take a different road, bear a lighter load
Tell an easy story

I would walk away
With my yesterdays
And I would not trade what is broken for beauty only

Every valley
Every bitter chill
Made me ready to climb back up the hill
And find that . . .

You are sunrise
You are blue skies
How would I know the morning
If I knew not midnight?

You’re my horizon
You’re the light of a new dawn
So thank You, thank You
That after the long night, You are sunrise

There’s a moment when
Faith caves in
There’s a time when every soul is certain God is gone

But every shadow is evidence of sun
And every tomorrow holds out hope for us
For every one of us

You are sunrise
You are blue skies
How would I know the morning
If I knew not midnight?

You’re my horizon
You’re the light of a new dawn
So thank You, thank You
That after the long night, You are sunrise

You alone will shine
You alone can resurrect this heart of mine

You are sunrise
You are blue skies
How would I know the morning
If I knew not midnight?

You’re my horizon
You’re the light of a new dawn
So thank You, thank You
That after the long night, You are sunrise

You are sunrise

That song really brings out the idea of
beauty for ashes — eternal life for death …

and on that day when the sun rises for the last time
never to set again,
all that will remain …
everlasting light …
beauty for ashes …

sun & shield
grace and glory!

Song 4:6 Until the day breaks and the shadows flee, I will go to the mountain of myrrh and to the hill of frankincense.

Song 2:8-9,17 Listen! The voice of my beloved! Behold, he comes Leaping upon the mountains, Skipping upon the hills. My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag. Behold, he stands behind our wall; He is looking through the windows, Gazing through the lattice. … Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, turn, my beloved, and be thou like a roe or a young hart upon the mountains of Bether.

Forget Me Not

June 21, 2010

The Forget Me Not flower flourishes near rivers or streams, at the waters edge.

It’s blue star eyed blossoms appear in early spring.

The ‘remember me’, ‘think on me’ flower.

True blue
True love
Those given forget me nots are never forgotten by their lovers.

Forget Me Not – Remember Me
{author unknown}

Of all the flowers that deck the field
Or grace the garden of the heart
Though others more audacious be
The sweetest is the little blue Forget Me Not
At waters edge, springs messenger
Smiles this gentle plea
Forget me not
Remember me!

Isaiah 49:15-16 Can a woman forget her nursing child and have no compassion on the son of her womb? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! Behold, I have engraved you{your name} on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.

Do not fear, My Love
You are precious and honored in My sight
I have redeemed you; I have called you by name;
You are mine.
-Isa 43:1,4

Never will I leave or forsake you   -Dt 31:6,8; Heb 13:5; Ps 9:10
You are My precious jewel
The apple of my eye
Nothing can separate you from My love
… or snatch you from My hand -Rom 8:38-39; Jn 10:28-30
I AM with you always, even to the end of the age -Mt 28:20
You are not forgotten
You are Mine.

Malachi 3:16-17 Then those who feared the LORD spoke to one another, and the LORD listened and heard them; So a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the LORD and who meditate on His name. “They shall be Mine,” says the LORD of hosts, “On the day that I make them My jewels{treasured possesion}. And I will spare them As a man spares his own son who serves him.”

Psalm 17:8 Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.

A Longing Heart Cry; An Answer

Karen, I had a vision a few nights ago of a face
with “blue eyes” and not just ordinary blue eyes,
but glowing and so bright that if it had lasted more

“to see.”

Gayle thanks for the insight about “blue” meaning
Holy Spirit.

I was noticing the blue – star eyed blossoms!
and thinking that it looks like a ‘procession of stars’

— blue for the Holy Spirit
— open eyes that look like stars in procession!

Song 6:10
Who is this that grows{rises} like the dawn,
As beautiful as the full moon{white one},
As pure as the sun,
As awesome as an army with banners{stars in procession}?

Army of open-eyed stars in procession!!!:

Those who have insight will shine brightly like the brightness of the expanse of heaven, and those who lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever. -Dan 12:3

Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life—in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labour for nothing.-Phil 2:14-16

Praise Him, sun and moon, praise Him, all you shining stars. -Ps 148:3

Lily of the Valleys

June 15, 2010

The Beloved to Her Lover:
Song 2:1 I am a rose of Sharon, a lily[07799] of the valleys.

From Netbible Song 2:1
a lily from its whiteness; also a straight trumpet from the tubular shape

from [07797]
to exult, rejoice, display joy, to be bright

The Bride — a white lily
A straight trumpet
That displays joy!

From NetBible Shoshannim
those that shall be changed
lilies, a testimony

The Bride — a white lily
A straight trumpet
A bright testimony

That displays  joy!

These shall be changed ….

Psalm 30:10-12 Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me; LORD, be my helper! 11You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed[0247]me with gladness[08057], 12To the end that my glory{heart & soul} may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks[03034] to You forever.

Isaiah 61:1-3, 10-11 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners 2to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, 3and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of His splendor. … I will greatly rejoice[07797] in the LORD, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. 11For as the earth brings forth its bud, As the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth, So the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

The Bride — a white lily
A straight trumpet
A bright testimony
That displays  joy!

These shall be changed ….

Anointed with the oil of gladness
Clothed with the garment of praise and righteousness
Equipped with joy; exceeding,  shining, bright  joy
For the display of His splendor.

Psalm 68:3 But let the righteous{upright} be glad[08055]; Let them rejoice[05970] before God; Yes, let them exceedingly[08057] rejoice[07797].

Psalm 97:11 AMP
Light is sown for the [uncompromisingly] righteous and strewn along their pathway, and joy for the upright in heart [the irrepressible joy which comes from consciousness of His favor and protection].

1 Peter 1:8
Though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory.

Unfolding Rose

June 8, 2010

This really encouraged me!!!!! … From Almond Blossoms at the Door

Aaron’s rod, blossoms and almonds revealed
Waiting expectantly at the door
Kept thru the night before the tent of testimony
Until on the wings of dawn
Blossoms and almonds unfold
Full of life
Full of light
In the Son.

Dead Branch
A branch may appear dead while waiting ‘at the door’ thru the long dark

Take heart! For it’s at the door, laying still thru the night
That the branch is sustained by My hand,
Refreshed and renewed with the dew of My presence.
Joy is coming in the morning. With the rising Sun of Righteousness,
My servants blossom, full of light and life.
My dew sparkling like diamonds,
Still fresh appears at dawn.

Take heart!
The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. -Rom 13:12

My root is spread out to the waters, and dew lies all night on my branch. My glory is ever new with me, and my bow is renewed in my hand. -Job 29:19-20

Mark 5
35While Jesus was still speaking, some men came from the house of
Jairus, the synagogue ruler. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why
bother the teacher any more?”
36Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, “Don’t be
afraid; just believe.” …

38When they came to the home of the synagogue ruler, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.” …

41He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means,”Little girl, I say to you, ARISE!” ). 42Immediately the girl stood up and walked around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished.

The stick that appears dead — is not dead at all
It’s in a state of sleep
A state of rest at the feet of the Kinsmen Redeemer -Ruth 3:8

“Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.” -Ps 46:10

Wait for the coming King
Wait in quietness and trust
For His words

Psalm 132:17    There I will make the horn of David bud; I will prepare a lamp for My Anointed.

Psalms 89:15-17    How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! O LORD, they walk in the light of Your countenance. 16In Your name they rejoice all the day, And by Your righteousness they are exalted. 17For You are the glory of their strength, And by Your favor our horn is exalted.

Romans 5 NKJV
Faith Triumphs in Trouble

1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

2 Corinthians 4:17-18 New Living Translation
For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

Warren Wiersbe commenting on Psalm 20 adds the following practical thought…

David wrote, “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the Lord our God” (Psalm 20:7). The big question is, What are you trusting today? Everybody trusts in or believes in something. Some people trust in their money or credit cards. Some trust in their strength or expertise or experience. Psalm 20:1 andPsalm 20:2 say, “May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble; may the name of the God of Jacob defend you; may He send you help from the sanctuary, and strengthen you out of Zion.”

The Christian trusts in the Lord, and he exemplifies this trust by praying. When we are in trouble, what we do to solve our problems and turn our trouble into triumph is evidence of what or whom we’re trusting. When the day of trouble arrives, some people reach for their checkbooks. They think money will solve their problems. Others reach for the telephone. They look to friends to solve their problems. While “some trust in chariots, and some in horses,” Christians remember the name of the Lord (Psalm 20:7).

Our faith is in Jesus Christ, and we should not be afraid to let people know about it. “We will rejoice in your salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners!” (Psalm 20:5). In other words, we do not hesitate to wave the banner of faith because He will not fail us. God’s name is good. “The name of the God of Jacob defend you” (Psalm 20:1). Take time to trust the Lord. Roll your burden on Him. Get your strength from Him. Wave your banner in the name of the Lord, and He will turn your burden into a blessing. Where do you place your trust? Whereas wealth and others fail you, Jesus never fails. Take whatever burden you are carrying today and give it to the Lord. Trust Him, and He will work on your behalf.  (in his devotional on the Psalms which I highly recommend entitled Prayer, Praise and Promise).

My soul finds rest in God alone;
my salvation comes from Him. -Ps 62:1 NIV

My victory and honor come from God alone.
He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me.
8 O my people, trust in Him at all times.
Pour out your heart to Him,
for God is our refuge. -Ps 62:7-8 NLT

A Heart in Tune with God

June 5, 2010

A heart in tune with God sings melodies of praise!
{no matter what :)}

I don’t know about tomorrow
Nor what the coming days may bring
But I know my Lord is with me
And His praises my heart and mouth will sing! —Fitzhugh

Psalm 33:1 NIV Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise Him.
