Desert Song

February 28, 2011

This is my prayer in the desert
When all that’s within me feels dry
This is my prayer in my hunger and need
My God is the God who provides!

And I will bring praise
I will bring praise
No weapon forged against me shall remain
I will rejoice, I will declare
God is my victory and He is here.

Exodus 16:4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow My instructions”.

God’s people in the desert could not provide for themselves. They could not plant or harvest, they could not buy or sell. God gave manna one day at a time – it could not be stored up. They had to rely on God alone for provision.

Do you find yourself in the desert place? Are you relying on God alone to lead you thru?

The desert can be a place of wonder and awe at the care and provision of the Lord.

Don’t give up! You could be closer to your oasis than you think!

The Fruit of Love

February 27, 2011

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is patient,

In times of testing love is longsuffering, willing to endure and wait for the Lord’s answer.

Love is kind.

Love never grows weary in doing good, especially to those who are of the household of faith. -Gal 6:10

It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love is humble, longsuffering, slow to anger  and puts others first. -Phil 2:3

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in the truth.

Love takes no pleasure in wrong doing, but has joy in the flowering of truth – in the unfolding of God’s Word. -Ps 119:130

It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will fail; where there are tongues, they will cease; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

Love never fails or comes to an end. It is never powerless or without effect. His love is everlasting. -Jer 31:3;Ps 103:17

.

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Love is the key. Joy is love singing. Peace is love resting. Patience is love enduring. Kindness is love’s truth. Goodness is love’s character. Faithfulness is love’s habit. Gentleness is love’s self-forgetfulness. Self-control is love being the reins” — Donald G. Barnhouse

Fruit

February 24, 2011

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. … Apart from Me you can do nothing. -Jn 15:4-5

It may look like you are in a dry and weary land
where there is no water
where it looks like no fruit could ever grow.
It may look like all promises to you are void.

Do not give up! Things are not as they appear.
Sing O barren sing! -Isa 54:1
The fruit of your lips will soon be revealed
No weapon formed against you shall prosper. -Isa 54:17
Spring up oh well! Sing to it! -Num 21:17

There is no sweeter song than the song of faith sung in the desert where it looks as if nothing could ever bloom.

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. -Heb 10:23

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess His name. -Heb 13:15

THE WILDERNESS and the dry land shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the rose and the autumn crocus. -Isa 35:1

***

Sing to God, sing praises to His name; Lift up a song for Him who rides through the deserts{upon the clouds}, Whose name is the LORD{YAH}, and exult before Him. … O God, when You went forth before Your people, When You marched through the wilderness, Selah. The earth quaked; The heavens also dropped rain at the presence of God; Sinai itself quaked at the presence of God, the God of Israel. You gave abundant showers, O God; You refreshed Your weary inheritance. -Ps 68:4,7-9

They will not hunger or thirst, nor will the scorching desert heat or sun strike them down; For He who has compassion on them will lead them and will guide them to springs of water. -Isa 49:10

The desert only needs one cloud burst to bloom.

Sing to Yah, sing praises to His name.
Exalt the One and Only who rides upon the clouds thru the desert
Rejoice before Him who drops His rain from the clouds
Be refreshed, showered in His presence
There are streams in the desert -Isa 35:6
Drink in His tender mercies

Against all odds the desert rose unfolds and blooms
Fruit is revealed.

His going forth is as certain as the dawn; And He will come to us like the rain, Like the spring rain watering the earth. -Hos 6:3

A Sacrifice of Praise

February 23, 2011

Hebrews 13:15 NIV  Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess His name.

Through Jesus! Without Jesus we can not bear fruit.

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. -Jn 15:4

Through Jesus! Together as we assemble and offer a sacrifice of praise – a thank offering: singing praises to honor His name
—> this is a way of abiding with Him and bearing fruit
—> the fruit of our lips!

Why should we assemble together and honor His name in this way?

  1. Because of His mercy, unfailing love and faithfulness and because His promises are backed by all the honor of His name.
  2. This is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 138:2 I bow before Your holy Temple as I worship. I will give thanks to Your name for Your unfailing love and faithfulness, because Your promises are backed by all the honor of Your name.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything{in all circumstances} give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Lord help us to always come before You offering our praises with our whole hearts. Thank You that as we do this we will abide in You and You in us.

I Lift Up My Soul

February 19, 2011

Psalm 143:8 Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love,

Sorrow may last for a night, but joy comes in the morning -Ps 30:5

for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I lift up my soul.

Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; may Your good Spirit lead me in the land of uprightness. -Ps 143:10

You have made known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand. -Ps 16:11

Psalm 86:4-5 Bring joy to Your servant, for to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul. For You, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call on You.

But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: because of the LORD’s great love{mercy} we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness! Lam 3:21-23

Satisfy us in the morning with Your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. -Ps 90:14

Safe Harbor

February 13, 2011

Psalm 107:25-30 He spoke and raised up a stormy wind, which lifted up the waves of the sea. They rose up to the heavens, they went down to the depths; in their peril their courage melted away. They reeled and staggered like drunken men; they were at their wits’ end. They cried out to the Lord in their distress; He delivered them from their troubles. He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. What a blessing was that stillness as He brought them safely into harbor!

When storms rage and strength and courage seem to melt away
Remember the One and Only who the wind and waves obey

He speaks! “Peace! Be Still!”Mk 4:39

A beacon of truth showing the way
Rock of peace – Rock of refuge
A safe harbor to which you may continually come.

Psalm 71:3 Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; the strong place of my salvation; for You are my Rock, and my fortress(safe place).

Isaiah 26:3-4 You will keep in perfect peace, him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal.

Proverbs 29:25 NIV Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.

Proverbs 29:25 BBE The fear of man is a cause of danger: but whoever puts his faith in the Lord will have a safe place on high.

Proverbs 29:25 NLT Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but to trust the LORD means safety.

Trust in the Lord means you’ll be kept in perfect peace while being led to a safe place – safe harbor. What a blessing!

Lord, thank that You can calm any storm, both those around us and those within. Thank You that as we trust You we’ll be kept in perfect peace and led to a safe place; a safe harbor in You.

The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Saviour! -Ps 18:46
