Be Kind and Tender-Hearted

February 27, 2013

Ephesians 4:32 AMP … And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another [readily and freely], as God in Christ forgave you.

Ephesians 4:32 MSG … Be gentle with one another, sensitive. Forgive one another as quickly and thoroughly as God in Christ forgave you.

Be kind to one another

From NetBible Eph 4:32

  • kind[5543] = benevolent, gracious, useful, helpful, gentle, pleasant, not harsh, not bitter

From NetBible Eph 4:32

  • tender-hearted[2155] = compassionate, understanding, sensitive, merciful, affectionate

Forgive one another{readily, freely, quickly, thoroughly} as God in Christ forgave you.

1 Peter 3:8 Finally, ALL of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers{or sisters}, be tenderhearted, be courteous;

I was meditating on the above verses about being tender-hearted towards one another. Ephesians 4:32 is in the context of how all christians should walk. The cross reference to 1 Peter 3:8 seems to be in agreement with this. I then looked at the previous verse.

1 Peter 3:7 Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.

Interesting …
Many times I’ve heard the focus of 1 Peter 3:7 to be on the wife being the ‘weaker vessel’. This is usually then generalized to say all women are ‘weaker vessels’. Does the above verse really say that all women are ‘weaker vessels’?

Look closely, it’s about how husbands should treat wives. Husbands should dwell with understanding, giving honor to the wife, AS to the weaker vessel.

From NetBible 1Pe 3:7

  • as[5613] = like, in that

Mt 10:16 … Behold, I send you out as[5613] sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as[5613] serpents and harmless as[5613] doves.

Treat ‘as’ a weaker vessel doesn’t necessarily mean ‘is’ a weaker vessel – just as ‘wise as serpents’ doesn’t mean to be a serpent.

Give honor as to the weaker vessel.

From NetBible 1Pe 3:7

  • honor[5092] = placing value on as precious

The focus is not on being weak or strong it’s on treating and placing value on the wife as precious. Look at the next part of this verse – why should the husband do this? Because wives and husbands together are heirs AND so the husbands prayers will not be hindered!

1 Peter 3:7-8Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered. Finally, ALL of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers{or sisters}, be tenderhearted, be courteous.

2 Kings 22:19Because your heart was tender, and you have humbled yourself before the Lord, when you heard what I spoke against this place . . . I also have heard you, says the Lord

From NetBible 2Ki 22:19

  • Tender[07401] = to be soft, sensitive, penitent
  • Humbled[03665] = to be brought into subjection

Look how having a tender heart is related to the Lord hearing your requests! Being  kind, tender-hearted, compassionate, gentle, understanding, sensitive, giving honor and forgiving to one another is an important part of the christian walk. —> This is especially true for a husband and wife.

Beautiful Scars

Revelation 5:6Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne—

Beautiful Scars
By Karen Holland

Jesus, the Lamb stands and reigns
Nail pierced hands and feet -Ps 22:16
A spear pierced side -Jn 19:34
His wounds for you and me -Isa 53:3-5
Now beautiful scars that tell the story
Of His great love and resurrection power
An eternal invitation to know Him
To behold Him, bow before Him and adore Him
Worthy is the Lamb to receive all honor and praise!

Beautiful scars worn by the Lamb for you and me
Display His redeeming love throughout eternity!

John 20:19-23 …     On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that he breathed on them and said, Receive the Holy Spirit. …

Jesus kept His scars and showed them. They are on display for all eternity. His scars tell the story of His great love for you and me.

A scar by it’s very nature implies healing. They are an invitation to share your testimony pointing to the healing power and love of our Lord Jesus Christ. Don’t hide your scars, they are beautiful and  have a story to tell!

Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Let the redeemed of the LORD say so{tell their story} , Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy -Ps107:1-2

Isaiah 53:3-5 AMP … He was despised and rejected and forsaken by men, a Man of sorrows and pains, and acquainted with grief and sickness; and like One from Whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we did not appreciate His worth or have any esteem for Him.

Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy].

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.

The Battle Belongs to the LORD

February 20, 2013

Proverbs 21:31 AMP …  The horse is prepared[03559] for the day of battle, but deliverance and victory are of the Lord.

Prepare your heart
Fear not – Stand firm and PRAISE
The battle belongs to the Lord.

Some boast{praise} in chariots and some in horses,
But we will boast{praise} in the name of the Lord, our God.

Lift up you heads O ye gates of praise and
See the King of glory come in
The Lord of hosts
The Lord strong and mighty
Mighty in battle
Strong and mighty in battle is He
SEE the Lord’s deliverance and victory!
-Ps 24

1 Corinthians 15:57 AMP … Thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory [making us conquerors] through our Lord Jesus Christ!

Psalm 57:7 … My heart is steadfast{fixed}[03559], O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise.

From NetBible Pro 21:31 & Psa 57:7

  • prepare[03559] = firm, stable, established, fixed
  • battle[04421] = to fight, to war
*from [03898] = to fight, do battle, make war, to eat, use as food

See Giants? Look for the BREAD!

Ordained Strength is Perfected Praise

February 14, 2013

Matthew 21:15-16But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant and said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise’?

Psalm 8:2 Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.

Look closely at the above verses. Jesus references Psalm 8:2 when criticized for allowing children to praise. It looks like a misquote with ‘perfected praise’ replacing ‘ordained strength’, is it? Or is Jesus teaching that ‘ordained strength’ is ‘perfected praise’. Could it be that Jesus is teaching that the power, the strength of praise is to silence the enemy?!

Look at the word study below. The word for enemy that first appears in Psalm 8:2 is interesting, it refers to the enemy who tries to bind, shut up or afflict, isn’t this exactly what the chief priests and scribes were trying to do to the children at the temple?

Word Study

From NetBible Mt 21:16

  • perfected[2675] = prepare, equip, fitted, make complete
  • praise[136] = laudation of God
*from [1868] & [134] = to praise, extol, to sing praises in honour to God -to promise or vow

From NetBible Ps 8:2

  • ordained[03245] = to fix, establish, appoint
  • strength[05797] = force, security, majesty, praise, boldness
  • Because of Your enemies[06887] = to bind, tie up, shut up, afflict

See Giants? Look for the BREAD!

February 13, 2013

Numbers 14:8-9If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, ‘a land which flows with milk and honey.’ Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them.

Don’t rebel against the Lord
Or fear the giants
They are BREAD for us.
Their protection is removed
But the Lord is with us.
Fear Not!

Trust in the Lord
Go forward in FAITH
Believe and act on God’s promises!
The giants are BREAD
They are there to strengthen you!

How was Caleb able to see the giants as bread instead of enemies too big to go up against?

But My servant Caleb, because he has had a different spirit and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land which he entered, and his descendants shall take possession of it. -Nu14:24

He had a “different spirit” – a spirit which totally filled, armed and satisfied him. As Caleb believed and acted on what God told him – the Lord gave him victory!

Psalm 144:1 Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.

Word Study

From NetBible Nu14:9

  • bread[03899] = food, nourishment, fruit
*from [03898] = to fight, do battle, make war, to eat, use as food

From NetBible Nu14:24

  • follow fully[04390] = to be filled, be armed, be satisfied

From NetBible Ps144:1

  • battle[04421] = to fight, to war
*from [03898] = to fight, do battle, make war, to eat, use as food

If you see giants before you and find yourself in the midst of a big battle – look for the BREAD= provision, nourishment, instruction from the LORD. Trust and follow Him fully. The Lord will give the victory!

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” -Mt4:4

Children’s BREAD this seems related …

One way to SEE the BREAD
Persist and don’t give up
Worship and pray at the Lord’s feet{Son of David=Messiah}
This precedes receiving the children’s bread-the cure …
AND the daughter the mother was wanting Jesus to heal wasn’t even present! WOW!

Matthew 15:21-25 AMP

21 And going away from there, Jesus withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon.

22 And behold, a woman who was a Canaanite from that district came out and, with a [loud, troublesomely urgent] cry, begged, Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is miserably and distressingly and cruelly possessed by a demon!

23 But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples came and implored Him, saying, Send her away, for she is crying out after us.

24 He answered, I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

25 But she came and, kneeling, worshiped Him and kept praying, Lord, help me!

26 And He answered, It is not right (proper, becoming, or fair) to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.

27 She said, Yes, Lord, yet even the little pups (little whelps) eat the crumbs that fall from their [young] masters’ table.

28 Then Jesus answered her, O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you wish. And her daughter was cured from that moment.

Glory in His Holy Name!

1 Chronicles 16:10-11 AMP … Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord! Seek the Lord and His strength; yearn for and seek His face and to be in His presence continually!

The LORD Jesus Christ!

Glory in His Holy name!

From NetBible 1Chron 16:10

  • Glory[01984] = boast, shine, praise, to make a show, celebrate, sing
  • rejoice[08055] = be glad, brighten up, be joyful, merry

Glory at the feet of the Lamb -Isa60:13
From the throne where He stands
Bow before Him

Behold Him

At the feet of the Lamb
Glory in Jesus’ name!

Yokes broken -Is10:27
Captives set free

The oil of joy for mourning
Put on the garment of praise -Isa61:1-3 -Isa61:10-11
Songs of deliverance -Ps32:7,10-11
Sacrifices of joy -Ps27:6
Sacrifices of praise … -He13:15;Is57:19

At the feet of the Lamb

See the victory
Glory{Triumph} in His praise!
Glory in His holy name!

He who sacrifices thank-offerings honors Me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation{deliverance} of God. -Ps50:23

Isaiah 30:18 AMP … And therefore the Lord [earnestly] waits [expecting, looking, and longing] to be gracious to you; and therefore He lifts Himself up, that He may have mercy on you and show loving-kindness to you. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are all those who [earnestly] wait for Him, who expect and look and long for Him [for His victory, His favor, His love, His peace, His joy, and His matchless, unbroken companionship]!

Psalm 27:4-9 AMP … One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek, inquire for, and [insistently] require: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life, to behold and gaze upon the beauty [the sweet attractiveness and the delightful loveliness] of the Lord and to meditate, consider, and inquire in His temple.

For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter; in the secret place of His tent will He hide me; He will set me high upon a rock. And now shall my head be lifted up above my enemies round about me; in His tent I will offer sacrifices{thank-offerings} and shouting of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.

Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud; have mercy and be gracious to me and answer me! You have said, Seek My face [inquire for and require My presence as your vital need]. My heart says to You, Your face (Your presence), Lord, will I seek, inquire for, and require [of necessity and on the authority of Your Word]. Hide not Your face from me; turn not Your servant away in anger, You Who have been my help! Cast me not off, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation!
