Safety in His Presence

April 28, 2013

Psalm 91:1-2,4 AMP … He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand].

I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust![Then] He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler.

Safety is not the absence of danger, but the presence of the Lord!

The Lord shelters and keeps safe all who trust in Him. Surrender your all to Him and be encouraged. Abide, safe and sheltered beneath the shadow of His mighty wings. Dwell in the secret place of the Most High, whose power no foe can withstand! Rejoice, upheld upon the Rock, in the shadow of His mighty wings!

Psalm 27:5 AMP … For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter; in the secret place of His tent will He hide me; He will set me high upon a rock.

Psalm 63:7-8 AMP … You have been my help, and in the shadow of Your wings will I rejoice. My whole being follows hard after You and clings closely to You; Your right hand upholds me.

Exodus 33:21
Then the Lord said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock.”

A Healing Word

April 24, 2013

Proverbs 12:25Anxiety in a person’s heart weighs him down, but an encouraging word brings him joy.

Psalm 107:20He sent them an assuring word and healed them; He rescued them from the pits where they were trapped.

A heavy heart trapped
… Weighed down in worry
…… In anxious fear

Needs only remember to ask the Lord
… For an assuring word.

An assuring word heals
… sets free
…… brings life
……… brings joy and rejoicing!

His quickened word revives, refreshes, heals, brings hope, life, joy and rejoicing!!

Luke 1:37 AMP … For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment.

Word Study

From NetBible Prov 12:25

  • Anxiety[01674] = worry, fear, heaviness, sorrow

*The word “anxiety” (דְּאָגָה, dÿagah) combines anxiety and fear – anxious fear (e.g., Jer 49:23; Ezek 4:16); and for the verb (e.g., Ps 38:18; Jer 17:8).

*Anxiety weighs heavily on the heart, causing depression. The spirit is brought low.

  • encouraging[02896] = good, gracious

    * Heb “good.” The Hebrew word “good” (טוֹב, tov) refers to what is beneficial for life, promotes life, creates life or protects life. The “good word” here would include encouragement, kindness, and insight – the person needs to regain the proper perspective on life and renew his confidence.

  • brings joy[08055] = makes glad/ merry, causes rejoicing

*Heb “makes it [= his heart] glad.” The similarly sounding terms יַשְׁחֶנָּה (yashkhennah, “weighs it down”) and יְשַׂמְּחֶנָּה (yÿsammÿkhennah, “makes it glad”) create a wordplay (paronomasia) that dramatically emphasizes the polar opposite emotional states: depression versus joy.

From NetBible Ps 107:20

  • assuring word[01697] = speech, saying, utterance

*Heb “he sent his word.” This probably refers to an oracle of assurance which announced his intention to intervene (see L. C. Allen, Psalms 101-150 [WBC], 59)

  • healed[07495] = to mend (by stitching), to cure, repair, make whole
  • rescued[04422] = delivered, saved, preserved

*Heb “he rescued from their traps.” The Hebrew word שְׁחִית (shekhit, “trap”) occurs only here and in Lam 4:20, where it refers to a trap or pit in which one is captured. Because of the rarity of the term and the absence of an object with the verb “rescued,” some prefer to emend the text of Ps 107:20, reading מִשַׁחַת חַיָּתָם (mishakhat khayyatam, “[he rescued] their lives from the pit”). Note also NIV “from the grave,” which interprets the “pit” as Sheol or the grave.

From NetBible Ps 119:50

Psalm 119:49-50 AMP … Remember [fervently] the word and promise to Your servant, in which You have caused me to hope. This is my comfort and consolation in my affliction: that Your word has revived me and given me life.

  • affliction[06040] = suffering, pain, sorrow, trouble
  • revived[02421] gives life, quickened, restored, refreshed ->from sickness, discouragement, faintness, death
–>His word quickened revives, refreshes, restores, brings hope and life!

Nothing is Wasted

April 22, 2013

It’s from the deepest wounds
That beauty finds a place to bloom …

2 Corinthians 1:3-5Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.

2 Corinthians 12:9 … My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.

The Lord is Nigh

April 20, 2013

Psalm 34:17-18The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is near the brokenhearted; He delivers those who are discouraged.

The Lord is nigh
He hears and answers the righteous cry.

Prepare your heart
Call on Him in sincerity and truth
Expect an answer.

Be quieted and renewed in His unfailing love
He is faithful to deliver and mighty to save!

{From the word study below} The word Hosanna points to this verse:

Psalm 32:7 NASB … You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble; You surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.

Psalm 32:7 MSG … GOD’s my island hideaway, keeps danger far from the shore, throws garlands of hosannas around my neck.

The Lord is near
Don’t shed a tear
He is your hiding place
He is faithful to deliver and mighty to save!

Rejoice greatly O daughter of Zion! -Zec 9:9

Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. -Ps24:7

Sing hosanna in the highest to the King!
The King of glory He comes!

Word Study

From NetBible Ps 34:17

  • delivers[05337] = to snatch away, to be plucked out, rescue, save

From NetBible Ps 34:18

  • nigh[07138] = near(in place, kindred or
    time), approachable, allied, at hand
  • delivers[03467] = to save, to be liberated, to give victory to
*from a primitive root, Greek [5614] = hosanna

From NetBible Jn 12:13

  • hosanna[5614] =
From [03467] = to be liberated, saved, delivered, victorious
and [04994] = we pray now please
  • The expression ῾Ωσαννά (Jwsanna, literally in Hebrew, “O Lord, save”) in the quotation from Ps 118:25-26 was probably by this time a familiar liturgical expression of praise, on the order of “Hail to the king,” although both the underlying Aramaic and Hebrew expressions meant “O Lord, save us.” As in Mark 11:9 the introductory ὡσαννά is followed by the words of Ps 118:25, εὐλογημένος ὁ ἐρχόμενος ἐν ὀνόματι κυρίου (euloghmeno” Jo ercomeno” en onomati kuriou), although in the Fourth Gospel the author adds for good measure καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς τοῦ ᾿Ισραήλ (kai Jo basileu” tou Israhl). In words familiar to every Jew, the author is indicating that at this point every messianic expectation is now at the point of realization. It is clear from the words of the psalm shouted by the crowd that Jesus is being proclaimed as messianic king. See E. Lohse, TDNT9:682-84.* Hosannais an Aramaic expression that literally means, “help, I pray,” or “save, I pray.” By Jesus’ time it had become a strictly liturgical formula of praise, however, and was used as an exclamation of praise to God.* A quotation from Ps 118:25-26.

From NetBible Ps 145:18

  • Psalm 145:18 AMP … The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him sincerely and in truth.
  • near[07138] = nigh(in place, kindred or
    time), approachable, allied, at hand
  • sincerity and truth[0571] = firmness, faithfulness, sureness, reliability, honesty
*from [0539] = to be certain He will answer

From NetBible Zep 3:17

  • Zephaniah 3:17The LORD your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.
  • save[03467] = to save, to be liberated, to give victory to
*from a primitive root, Greek [5614] = hosanna
  • He will quiet you[02790] = make silent, give rest
    * “he causes [you] to be silent by his love,” that is, “he soothes [you] by his love.” The present translation follows the LXX and assumes an original reading יְחַדֵּשׁ (yÿkhaddesh, “he renews”) with ellipsis of the object (“you”).
  • love[0160] = God’s love for His people, faithfulness

From NetBible Zec 9:9

  • Zechariah 9:9Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation, Humble, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
  • Rejoice[01523] = joyful, glad, to spin round (under the influence of any violent emotion)
  • shout[07321] = loud shout for joy in triumph
  • righteous[06662] = just, lawful
  • salvation[03467] = to save, to be liberated, to give victory to
*from a primitive root, Greek [5614] = hosanna
  • The NT understands this verse to be a prophecy of the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, and properly so (cf. Matt 21:5;John 12:15), but reference to the universal rule of the king in v. 10reveals that this is a “split prophecy,” that is, it has a two-stage fulfillment. Verse 9 was fulfilled in Jesus’ earthly ministry but v. 10awaits a millennial consummation (cf. Rev 19:11-16).
  • v10 … I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim And the horse from Jerusalem; And the bow of war will be cut off. And He will speak peace to the nations; And His dominion will be from sea to sea, And from the River to the ends of the earth.

As I sing my hope is in You LORD
The joy of the Lord is strength to my soul

You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. -Ps16:8-11 NKJV

Crown of Thorns

April 3, 2013

Hebrews 12:2-3      Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Crowned with Thorns

No eye has seen
No ear has perceived
The beauty of the crown You bore for me. -1Co2:9-10;Is64:4;Jn19:2

Broken vessel
Crowned with thorns
Pierced for our transgressions
A perfect sacrifice
Your life poured out in a scarlet flow. -Jn19:34;Is53:5,12; 1Pe1:18-19

The beauty of the crown
Is not what eyes can see
It’s the scarlet thread of love
that flows throughout eternity. -1Pe1:8;Ps 103:17-19
