Author and Finisher

November 30, 2013

Hebrews 12:1-2 NASB … Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter{finisher} of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Philippians 1:6 NASB … For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect{complete} it until the day of Christ Jesus.

Praise the Lord Jesus Christ! Fix your eyes on Him. Be confident of this, that He who began a good work in you is both the author and finisher of your faith!

#Praise Fix Ur eyes onJesus-Be confident of this-He who began a good work in U is both author&finisher of your faith!

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 NKJV … Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.

Faith For Things Unseen

November 28, 2013

Hebrews 11:1 AMP … Now faith is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].

Hebrews 11:1 NKJV … Now faith is the *substance[5287] of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Faith is the firm foundation of our hope
All we’ve seen of God’s provision
Teaches us to trust Him and have faith for things unseen!

The Son is the exact nature/substance of God
Faith in Jesus Christ is the substance/firm foundation of our hope!

Hebrews 11:6 AMP … But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out].

Hebrews 3:14 … For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance{substance[5287]} firm until the end …

Hebrews 10:22-25 AMP
22 Let us all come forward and draw near with true (honest and sincere) hearts in unqualified assurance and absolute conviction engendered by faith (by that leaning of the entire human personality on God in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness), having our hearts sprinkled and purified from a guilty (evil) conscience and our bodies cleansed with pure water.

23 So let us seize and hold fast and retain without wavering the hope we cherish and confess and our acknowledgement of it, for He Who promised is reliable (sure) and faithful to His word.

24 And let us consider and give attentive, continuous care to watching over one another, studying how we may stir up (stimulate and incite) to love and helpful deeds and noble activities,

25 Not forsaking or neglecting to assemble together [as believers], as is the habit of some people, but admonishing (warning, urging, and encouraging) one another, and all the more faithfully as you see the day approaching.

Hold fast the substance of our faith in Jesus Christ until the end!

Word Study.

From Netbibe: Heb 11:1

  • substance[5287] = a setting or placing under, firm foundation, confidence, firm trust, assurance
*from a compound of [5259] = place under
and [2476] = make to stand, firm, fixed, established on sound foundation

From Vine’s Expository Dictionary

  • [5287] is translated “substance”
    (a) in Hebrews 1:3, of Christ as “the very image” of God’s “substance;” here the word has the meaning of the real nature of that to which reference is made in contrast to the outward manifestation (See the preceding clause); it speaks of the Divine essence of God existent and expressed in the revelation of His Son. The AV, “person” is an anachronism; the word was not so rendered till the 4th cent. Most of the earlier Eng. versions have “substance;”
    (b) in Hebrews 11:1 it has the meaning of “confidence, assurance” (RV), marg., “the giving substance to,” AV, “substance,” something that could not equally be expressed by elpis, “hope.”

From Netbibe: Heb 1:3
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature{substance[5287]}, and upholds all things by the word of His power. …

  • The Son, Jesus Christ is the exact nature/substance of God

From Netbibe: Heb 3:14
For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance{substance[5287]} firm until the end …

  • Hold fast the substance of our faith until the end

Rise Up O LORD!

November 24, 2013

Rise up O LORD!
Let Your enemies be scattered
Let those who hate You flee before Your face!

So it was, whenever the ark set out, that Moses said: “Rise up, O LORD! Let Your enemies be scattered, And let those who hate You flee before You.” -Num10:35

As smoke is scattered, Lord You drive them away!
As wax melts before the fire, Lord they melt before Your face!

Let God arise, Let His enemies be scattered; Let those also who hate Him flee before Him. As smoke is driven away, So drive them away; As wax melts before the fire, So let the wicked perish at the presence of God. -Ps68:1-2

Remember, O LORD, the reproach of Your servants
How they have mocked, taunted and scorned

Remember, Lord, and earnestly imprint [on Your heart] the reproach of Your servants, scorned and insulted, how I bear in my bosom the reproach of all the many and mighty peoples; With which Your enemies have taunted, O Lord, with which they have mocked the footsteps of Your anointed. -Ps89:50-51 AMP

Rise up O LORD!
Rise to my defense
Vindicate me!

Stir up Yourself, and awake to my vindication, To my cause, my God and my Lord. -Ps35:23

Deuteronomy 28:7 NKJV … The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.

Word StudyFrom Num 10:35

  • Rise[06965] = stand, to be established, endure
  • scattered[06327] = to be dispersed, to shatter- dash to pieces
  • before You[06440] = before Your face – presence/person

From Psa 68:1-2

  • * The psalmist depicts God as a mighty warrior and celebrates the fact that God exerts his power on behalf of his people.
  • *The wording of v. 1 echoes the prayer in Num 10:35: “Spring into action, Lord! Then your enemies will be scattered and your adversaries will run from you.” – as smoke is scattered, you scatter [them].

From Psa 35:23

  • Stir up Yourself[05782] = rouse, awake, incite, open your eyes
  • * Though he is confident that the Lord is aware of his situation (see v. 22a), the psalmist compares the Lord’s inactivity to sleep and urges him to wake up.

Trust in the Lord’s Faithfulness

All we’ve seen of God’s provision

Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. 29 So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. -Mt 6:28-31 NKJV

Teaches us that the Lord is faithful
His faithfulness is an essential part of who He is at all times!

O Lord God of hosts, who is a mighty one like unto You, O Lord? And Your faithfulness is round about You [an essential part of You at all times]. -Ps89:8 AMP

He is UTTERLY trustworthy to keep{care for, guard} you and me!

And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [separate you from profane things, make you pure and wholly consecrated to God]; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved sound and complete [and found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah).

24Faithful is He Who is calling you [to Himself] and utterly trustworthy, and He will also do it [fulfill His call by hallowing and keeping you]. -1Thess5:23-24 AMP

Trust in the Lord’s Faithfulness
His eye is on the sparrow
He cares for you and me

Know you are held and treasured in His sight. -Isa 43:4, 49:16

Small Faith Moves Mountains

November 10, 2013

Matthew 17:20 NKJV… So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

Notice how Jesus doesn’t say to increase faith or that more faith is needed.

Even faith in the Lord as small as a mustard seed is enough to move mountains!

Luke 17:5-6The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”
So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.

Thank You Lord Jesus that if we believe in You, nothing is impossible! Help me to remember that even with a small amount of faith in You, the impossible becomes possible.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. -Eph 3:20-21

The Light of His Face

November 3, 2013

Psalm 4:6Many are asking, “Who can show us any good?”
…… Let the light of your face shine upon us, O LORD.
…… Lift up the light of Your countenance upon us, O LORD!
…… Let the smile of Your face shine on us, LORD.

Praise You Lord Jesus! The light of Your face reveals Your goodness. Shine(smile) on us today as we seek Your beautiful face!

In the light of face of the Lord Jesus, His goodness is revealed …

  • His life and refreshing

When the king smiles, there is life; His favor refreshes like a gentle rain-Pr 16:15

  • His blessing, protection, grace and peace

May the LORD bless you and protect you. May the LORD make His face shine{smile} on you, and be gracious to you; May the LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. -Num 6:24-2

  • His deliverance/salvation

O LORD God of hosts{invincible warrior}, restore us; Cause Your face to shine{smile} upon us, and we will be saved{delivered}. Deliver us because of Your faithfulness{unfailing mercy&love}! -Ps 80:19, 31:16

  • Knowledge of the glory of God

For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. -2 Co 4:6

  • His beauty/delight

May the favor{beauty} of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands. -Ps 90:17

Psalm 27:4-8
4 One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek:

That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the Lord
And to meditate in His temple.
5 For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle;
In the secret place of His tent He will hide me;
He will lift me up on a rock.
6 And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me,
And I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.

7 Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice,
And be gracious to me and answer me.
8 When You said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to You,
“Your face, O Lord, I shall seek.”

Psalm 89:15Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound{shout}! They walk, O LORD, in the light of Your countenance.

From NetBible Ps 4:6

From NetBible Num 6:24-26

  • The verb “to keep” concerns the divine protection of the people; its basic meaning is “to exercise great care over,” “to guard,” or “to give attention to” (see TWOT 2:939). No doubt the priestly blessing informed the prayer and promise that makes up Ps 121, for the verb occurs six times in the eight verses. So in addition to the divine provision (“bless” basically means “enrich” in a number of ways) there is the assurance of divine protection.
  • To be gracious/ show favor = The picture of divine favor – the beaming face of a parent for his beloved.
  • For God to lift up his face is for God to give peace. The idea of the fallen face is one of anger (see Gen 4:6,7); and the idea of the hidden face is that of withholding support, favor, or peace (see Deut 31:18Ps 30:8Ps 44:25). If God lifts his face toward his people, it means he has given them peace – peace, prosperity, completeness, health, safety, general well-being, and the like.

From NetBible Ps 90:17

  • “and may the delight of the Master, our God, be on us.” The Hebrew term נֹעַם (noam, “delight”) is used in Ps 27:4 of the Lord’s “beauty,” but here it seems to refer to his favor (see BDB 653 s.v.) or kindness (HALOT 706 s.v.).

From NetBible Ps 89:15

  • “who know the shout.” “Shout” here refers to the shouts of the Lord’s worshipers (see Pss 27:6; 33:3; 47:5)
