Two Kinds of Rest

Matthew 11:28-30 AMP
28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]{I will give you rest}

  • The condition for receiving this rest is to simply “Come” to Jesus.
  • This rest is given

29 Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.

  • The condition for receiving this rest is to be “yoked” with and “learn” from Jesus. {to walk with Him}
  • This rest is found
  • Jeremiah 6:16 … Thus says the Lord,
    “Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, Where the good way is, and walk in it; And you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
  • Isaiah 30:20-21 … Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

30 For My yoke is wholesome (useful, good—not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light and easy to be borne.

Are you “walking” with Jesus? Are you listening intently for His voice/direction? Are you listening intently to apply/obey the wisdom you learn from the Lord Jesus Christ?

Today, if you hear the voice of Jesus Christ the Lord
Do not harden your hearts
Be careful to listen and obey
To walk in His “way”
The “way” He directs!

Then you will “find” rest for your soul. -Heb 3:7-19

My people have forgotten Me
Thus says the Lord
They burn incense to worthless gods and so
Stand at the crossroads and see
They have stumbled in the way they should go
Consider your path
They no longer follow the ancient paths
Ask for the ancient paths
Instead they walk in bypaths
Where the good way is
And on roads not built up.
And walk in it –

Then you will find rest for your souls.
-Jeremiah 18:15, 6:16
