Be Ready to Defend!

September 28, 2014

1 Peter 3:14-16 AMP
14 But even in case you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, [you are] blessed (happy, to be envied). Do not dread or be afraid of their threats, nor be disturbed [by their opposition].
15 But in your hearts set Christ apart as holy [and acknowledge Him] as Lord. Always be ready to give a logical defense to anyone who asks you to account for the hope that is in you, but do it courteously and respectfully.
16 [And see to it that] your conscience is entirely clear (unimpaired), so that, when you are falsely accused as evildoers, those who threaten you abusively and revile your right behavior in Christ may come to be ashamed [of slandering your good lives].

Do not be afraid
By anyone who opposes your life in Christ.

Instead acknowledge Him as Lord
Remind the opposition of who the Lord Jesus is
And to whom you belong!

The Sovereign Lord,
Maker of heaven and earth will vindicate you!

Psalm 26:1-3 AMP
1 Vindicate me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity; I have [expectantly] trusted in, leaned on, and relied on the Lord without wavering and I shall not slide.
2 Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; test my heart and my mind.
3 For Your loving-kindness is before my eyes, and I have walked in Your truth [faithfully].

Thank You Lord Jesus, You are our hope, our help and shield. Help us to keep Your mercy and loving-kindness ever before our eyes. And help us walk in Your truth, that others may see and ask for an account of our hope!

Psalm 115:11 AMP
11 You who [reverently] fear the Lord, trust in and lean on the Lord! He is their Help and their Shield.

An Assuring Word

September 24, 2014

Jeremiah 17:14 AMP
14 Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for You are my praise.

From NetBible Jer 17:14

  • save[03467] = deliver, to give victory, to help, preserve, rescue
  • praise[08416] = song or hymn, adoration, glory
*from [01984] = to shine, boast, glory, celebrate

From BlueLetterBible

  • praise[08416] = person or thing in which one glories -Jer 17:14 &
Due 10:21 … He is your praise, and He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things which your eyes have seen.

Heal me O Lord
And I will be healed
Save me
And I will be saved

Heal me O Lord
And I will be healed
Send forth
Your assuring word –Ps 107:20

For You alone are my praise
Jesus You are my praise

A healing balm poured forth –Jer 8:22
Jesus You alone are my praise.

Psalm 107:20 AMP
20 He sends forth His {assuring}word and heals them and rescues them from the pit and destruction.

From NetBible Ps 107:20

  • word[01697] = speech, saying, utterance

*Heb “he sent his word.” This probably refers to an oracle of assurance which announced his intention to intervene (see L. C. Allen, Psalms 101-150 [WBC], 59)

  • heals[07495] = to mend (by stitching), to cure, repair, make whole
  • rescues[04422] = delivered, saved, preserved

*Heb “he rescued from their traps.” The Hebrew wordשְׁחִית (shekhit, “trap”) occurs only here and in Lam 4:20, where it refers to a trap or pit in which one is captured. Because of the rarity of the term and the absence of an object with the verb “rescued,” some prefer to emend the text of Ps 107:20, reading מִשַׁחַת חַיָּתָם (mishakhat khayyatam, “[he rescued] their lives from the pit”). Note also NIV “from the grave,” which interprets the “pit” as Sheol or the grave.

Jeremiah 8:22 AMP
Is there no balm{medicinal ointment} in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is not the health of the daughter of my people restored? [Because Zion no longer enjoyed the presence of the Great Physician!]

From NetBible Jer 8:22

  • *balm = medicinal ointment
  • *Jeremiah is lamenting that though there is a remedy available for the recovery of his people they have not availed themselves of it.

Extol the King of Kings!

September 21, 2014

Psalm 145:1 AMP
1 I will extol You, my God, O King; and I will bless Your name forever and ever [with grateful, affectionate praise].

From NetBible Ps 145:1

  • extol[7311] = set on high, lift/raise up
  • bless[01288] = to praise, salute, kneel as a n act of adoration

Psalm 68:3-4 AMP
3 But let the [uncompromisingly] righteous be glad; let them be in high spirits and glory before God, yes, let them [jubilantly] rejoice!
4 Sing to God, sing praises to His name, cast up a highway for Him Who rides through the deserts—His name is the Lord—be in high spirits and glory before Him!

NKJV … 3 But let the righteous be glad; Let them rejoice before God; Yes, let them rejoice exceedingly. 4 Sing to God, sing praises to His name; Extol Him who rides on the clouds, By His name YAH, And rejoice before Him.

From NetBible Ps 68:4

  • extol[05549] = lift up a song, cast up a highway/way

Singing praises, rejoicing and extolling the Lord – is like casting up a highway – inviting Him in – bringing the reign/rain of His presence.

This is a good thing to do especially in the desert — for it’s only the Lord’s presence that brings rain into your desert.

Psalm 68:8-9 AMP
8The earth trembled, the heavens also poured down [rain] at the presence of God; yonder Sinai quaked at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
9 You, O God, did send a plentiful rain; You did restore and confirm Your heritage when it languished and was weary.

Proverbs 16:15 AMP
15 In the light of the king’s countenance is life, and his favor is as a cloud bringing the spring rain.

Psalm 84:5 NASB
5 How blessed is the man whose strength is in You, In whose heart are the highways to Zion!

Comforted to Comfort

September 20, 2014

2 Corinthians 1:3-5 NLT
God Offers Comfort to All

3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort[3874]. 4 He comforts[3870] us in all our troubles so that we can comfort[3874] others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort[3870] God has given us. 5 For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort[3874] through Christ.

John 14:16 AMP
16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter [3875](Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever …

From NetBible 2 Cor 1:3-5Jn 14:16

  • comfort[3874] paraklesis = a calling near, summons for consolation/help
  • comforts[3870] parakaleo = to call to one’s side/aid
  • comforter[3875] parakletos = summoned, called to one’s side/aid

What do you do when facing a crisis? When you are in pain? When you are suffering?

There is One who is the source of ALL comfort, who will “come alongside” to help ==> Jesus Christ

==> IF you ask

John 14:18 …KJV
I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you.

From NetBible Jn 14:18

  • leave[863] = depart from, abandon
  • comfortless[3737] => leave fatherless, bereaved
*abandon as orphans = leave you helpless

Jesus promises not only to comfort you but to use you to comfort others, to turn your trial into good!

Equipped With Joy

September 19, 2014

Psalm 30:2, 9-12 AMP
2 O Lord my God, I cried to You and You have healed me.

9 What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit (the grave)? Will the dust praise You? Will it declare Your truth and faithfulness to men?
10 Hear, O Lord, have mercy and be gracious to me! O Lord, be my helper!
11 You have turned my mourning into dancing for me; You have put off my sackcloth and girded me with gladness,
12 To the end that my tongue and my heart and everything glorious within me may sing praise to You and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever.

From NetBible Ps 30:11

  • girded me with gladness = clothed me with joy
  • clothed-‘azar[0247] = girded(metaphorical of strength), encompassed, equipped
  • joy-simchah[08057] = joy, mirth, gladness, joy (of God)
*The root denotes being glad or joyful with the whole disposition, the whole heart [08056] [08055]

Oak

Isaiah 61:1-3, 10-11 AMP
1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed and qualified me to preach the Gospel of good tidings to the meek, the poor, and afflicted; He has sent me to bind up and heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the [physical and spiritual] captives and the opening of the prison and of the eyes to those who are bound,
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord [the year of His favor] and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,
3 To grant [consolation and joy] to those who mourn in Zion—to give them an ornament (a garland or diadem) of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, the garment [expressive] of praise instead of a heavy, burdened, and failing spirit—that they may be called oaks of righteousness [lofty, strong, and magnificent, distinguished for uprightness, justice, and right standing with God], the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.

10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul will exult in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as [surely as] the earth brings forth its shoots, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring forth, so [surely] the Lord God will cause rightness and justice and praise to spring forth before all the nations [through the self-fulfilling power of His word].

The Lord has girded His ‘oaks of righteousness’ with gladness
They are equipped with His joy, His strength Neh 8:10
Clothed with joy as with a garment which surrounds,
encompassing on every side. –Ps 30:11

==> To set captives free, that the Lord may be glorified

==> these oaks are a praise on display before the nations
==> an everlasting sign Ps 92:15;Isa 55:12-13
Of the Lord’s faithfulness

He is our Rock!

Psalm 92:12-15 AMP
12 The [uncompromisingly] righteous shall flourish like the palm tree [be long-lived, stately, upright, useful, and fruitful]; they shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon [majestic, stable, durable, and incorruptible].
13 Planted in the house of the Lord, they shall flourish in the courts of our God.
14 [Growing in grace] they shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap [of spiritual vitality] and [rich in the] verdure [of trust, love, and contentment].
15 [They are living memorials] to show that the Lord is upright and faithful to His promises; He is my Rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

From NetBible Ps 92:12-15

  • flourish[ 06524] = to break forth as a bud, i.e. bloom; generally, to spread; specifically, to fly (as extending the wings); figuratively, to blossom, break forth (out), bud, flourish, make fly, grow,

  • full of sap[01879] = filled with vitality
    *from [01878] = anointed, fat

Kiss the Son{with me}

September 18, 2014

Streams in the desert
Living water let it flow
A drink for the people of God -Is 43:20-21
Living water
Living stones
To proclaim the praise
Of the One and Only
Kiss the Son
The Holy and anointed One
Worship in Spirit and Truth
Won’t you bow down and
Kiss the Son
With me?

Psalm 2:11-12 AMP
11 Serve the Lord with reverent awe and worshipful fear; rejoice and be in high spirits with trembling [lest you displease Him].
12 Kiss the Son [pay homage to Him in purity], lest He be angry and you perish in the way, for soon shall His wrath be kindled. O blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are all those who seek refuge and put their trust in Him!

John 4:23-24 AMP
23 A time will come, however, indeed it is already here, when the true (genuine) worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth (reality); for the Father is seeking just such people as these as His worshipers.
24 God is a Spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (reality).

From NetBible Ps 2:11-12

  • * The Hebrew verb translated “serve” refers here to submitting to the Lord’s sovereignty as expressed through the rule of the Davidic king. Such “service” would involve maintaining allegiance to the Davidic king by paying tribute on a regular basis.
  • *Kiss the Son = in trembling kiss His feet, pay homage in purity
  • kiss[05401] = HEBREW nashaq: kiss

From NetBible Jn 4:23-24

  • worship[4352] = GREEK proskuneo: to kiss, like a dog licking his master’s hand)

‘Kiss the Son’ – the hebrew translates nashqu bar as “pay homage in good faith” or “pay homage in purity”. The homage is to the Lord of Psalm 2:2 and to the Son of Psalm 2:7 — the Messiah King. Homage, kissing a King also implies submission. The Greek word for worship captures this idea – proskuneo – to kiss the hand toward, to do reverence or homage by kissing the hand, to bow oneself in adoration. This is to pay homage in recognition of royalty, to show submission to a king, to be under the king’s reign – like a dog licking his master’s hand.

1 Peter 2:4-5 NKJV
4 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 13:15 NKJV
15 Therefore by Him[Jesus] let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.

From the Rising of the Sun!

September 17, 2014

Psalm 113:1-4 AMP
1 Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!) Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord!
2 Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and forever
3 From the rising of the sun to the going down of it and from east to west, the name of the Lord is to be praised!
4 The Lord is high above all nations, and His glory above the heavens!

From NetBible Ps 113:3

  • * “from the rising of the sun to its setting.” The extent is not temporal (“from sunrise to sunset”) but spatial (“from the place where the sun rises [the east] to the place where it sets [the west].” In the phenomenological language of OT cosmology, the sun was described as rising in the east and setting in the west.

Who should praise the Lord?
==> His servants

When?
==> From this time forth and forever

Where?
==> From the east to the west; All over the whole earth!

** An interesting thought
==> Whenever the sun sets – it is rising in another part of the earth.
===> So the Lord should be praised ALL the time EVERYWHERE!

SunSmile

Psalm 118:24 AMP
24 This is the day which the Lord has brought about; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Precious Thoughts

September 11, 2014

Psalm 139:17-18 AMP
17 How precious and weighty also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
18 If I could count them, they would be more in number than the sand. When I awoke, [could I count to the end] I would still be with You.

Sand
Image from 365Promises

Psalm 40:5, 16-17 AMP
5 Many, O Lord my God, are the wonderful works which You have done, and Your thoughts toward us; no one can compare with You! If I should declare and speak of them, they are too many to be numbered.

16 Let all those that seek and require You rejoice and be glad in You; let such as love Your salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified!
17 [As for me] I am poor and needy, yet the Lord takes thought and plans for me. You are my Help and my Deliverer. O my God, do not tarry!

True Bread – A Sign

September 10, 2014

John 6:29-31 NASB
29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” 30 So they said to Him, “What then do You do for a sign, so that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform? 31 Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’”

What “sign” is given, that one may see and believe?
=>True Bread

John 6:32-35 NASB
32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven. 33 For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.” 34 Then they said to Him, “Lord, always give us this bread.”

35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.

From NetBible Jn 6:32

  • true[228] = *that which has not only the name and resemblance, but the real nature corresponding to the name, in every respect corresponding to the idea signified by the name, real, true genuine
    * opposite to what is fictitious, counterfeit, imaginary, simulated or pretended*From [227] = loving the truth, speaking the truth, truthful

True Bread =  Jesus came down out of heaven
=>Jesus the Son gives life to the world
=>Jesus is the bread of life
=>Jesus is the Truth, loves Truth, speaks Truth

John 6:47-51 NASB
47 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50 This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is My flesh.”

Matthew 4:4 NASB
4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’

True Bread = Jesus is Living Bread/ Living Word
=>Eating Jesus, His flesh/body, His words
==>Brings eternal life

John 6:53-55,63 NASB
53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves. 54 He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. 55 For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. 56 He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.

63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

True Food = Jesus flesh/body, Words spoken
True Drink = Jesus blood, His life giving Spirit

True Bread must be eaten{digested/applied}
With True Drink{the Holy Spirit}

Romans 10:17 NASB
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Joyful Tree Bloom

September 7, 2014

Psalm 84:4-5,10 AMP
4 Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are those who dwell in Your house and Your presence; they will be singing Your praises all the day long. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!
5 Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man whose strength is in You, in whose heart are the highways to Zion.

10 For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand [anywhere else]; I would rather be a doorkeeper and stand at the threshold in the house of my God than to dwell [at ease] in the tents of wickedness.
