One True Vine

November 22, 2014

John 15:1,4-5,11,16 AMP …  I am the True Vine, and My Father is the Vinedresser. … Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you. [Live in Me, and I will live in you.] Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (being vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me. I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing. … You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and I have appointed you [I have planted you], that you might go and bear fruit and keep on bearing, and that your fruit may be lasting [that it may remain, abide], so that whatever you ask the Father in My Name [as presenting all that I Am], He may give it to you.

Jesus is the One and Only True Vine
We are the branches
Apart from Jesus we can do nothing
For Jesus and the Father, the One True God, are One

I and the Father are One. -Jn 10:30 AMP

Neither for these alone do I pray [it is not for their sake only that I make this request], but also for all those who will ever come to believe in (trust in, cling to, rely on) Me through their word and teaching, that they all may be one, [just] as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be one in Us, so that the world may believe and be convinced that You have sent Me. -Jn 17:20-21 AMP

And this is eternal life: [it means] to know (to perceive, recognize, become acquainted with, and understand) You, the only true and real God, and [likewise] to know Him, Jesus [as the] Christ (the Anointed One, the Messiah), Whom You have sent. -Jn 17:3 AMP

Only fruit produced IN Christ Jesus is
All other fruit will perish …

From NetBible Jn 15:1

  • The imagery of the vine underscores the importance of fruitfulness in the Christian life and the truth that this results not from human achievement, but from one’s position in Christ. Jesus is not just giving some comforting advice, but portraying to the disciples the difficult path of faithful service. To some degree the figure is similar to the head-body metaphor used by Paul, with Christ as head and believers as members of the body. Both metaphors bring out the vital and necessary connection which exists between Christ and believers.

Come and Drink!

From: Trees Planted by the Water

Trees planted by streams-Grow&bear fruit even in old age-Signs of the Lord’s Faithfulness

==>Because they DRINK from-Jesus-the Living Word-Fountain of Life –Ps1:1-3;Jere17:8-9;Ps92:13-15

After pondering the above trees, the Lord gave me a song and some more very encouraging scripture – hopefully you’ll be encouraged too!

Psalm 36:7-9 NASB
7 How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God!
And the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.
8 They drink their fill of the abundance of Your house;
And You give them to drink of the river of Your delights.
9 For with You is the fountain of life;
In Your light we see light.

Revelation 22:17 AMP
17 The [Holy] Spirit and the bride (the church, the true Christians) say, Come! And let him who is listening say, Come! And let everyone come who is thirsty [who is painfully conscious of his need of those things by which the soul is refreshed, supported, and strengthened]; and whoever [earnestly] desires to do it, let him come, take, appropriate, and drink the water of Life without cost.

Come and drink
Come and drink
From the fountain of life

Come and drink
Come and drink
From the river of delight

Come and drink
Come and drink
From Jesus the living word

The Spirit and the Bride say

The Spirit and the Bride say

Won’t you come
Won’t you drink
Won’t you answer the call?

This prompted me to look up the cross references to Revelation 22:17 – the call to drink. I found the below scriptures. It was as if the Lord said the answer to His call to drink, is to first surrender to Jesus as Lord and then receive and accept the blessing. The blessing is to continually DRINK and follow Jesus, the Lambs, lead.

Isaiah 55:1 AMP
1 Wait and listen, everyone who is thirsty! Come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Yes, come, buy [priceless, spiritual] wine and milk without money and without price [simply for the self-surrender that accepts the blessing].

Revelation 7:17 AMP
17 For the Lamb Who is in the midst of the throne will be their Shepherd, and He will guide them to the springs of the waters of life; and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

This next verse really spoke to and encouraged me …

Revelation 21:6 AMP
6 And He [further] said to me, It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I [Myself] will give water without price from the fountain (springs) of the water of Life.

Trees Planted by the Water

November 12, 2014

The trees firmly planted and tended by the water. They delight in meditating and obeying the instructions of the Lord. Their roots are deep. Their leaves are green. They grow to maturity bearing fruit in season, even in their old age …
They are living signs of the Lord’s faithfulness!
Signs because they DRINK
… from the streams of living water –Jn 4:10,7:38;Ps 36:9
… from the Jesus the living word. –Jn1:1-3;He4:12

Psalm 1:1-3 AMPC
1 Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather.
2 But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night.
3 And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity].

Jeremiah 17:7-8 AMPC
7 [Most] blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is.
8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters that spreads out its roots by the river; and it shall not see and fear when heat comes; but its leaf shall be green. It shall not be anxious and full of care in the year of drought, nor shall it cease yielding fruit.

Psalm 92:13-15 AMPC
13 Planted in the house of the Lord, they shall flourish in the courts of our God.
14 [Growing in grace] they shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap [of spiritual vitality] and [rich in the] verdure [of trust, love, and contentment].
15 [They are living memorials] to show that the Lord is upright and faithful to His promises; He is my Rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

God’s Plan Prevails

November 11, 2014

Proverbs 19:21 AMP
21 Many plans are in a man’s mind, but it is the Lord’s purpose for him that will stand.

From NetBible Prov 19:21

Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.

  • Many plans are in the human heart/mind/reasoning BUT only those which God approves will succeed.
  • The point of the proverb is that the human being with many plans is uncertain, but the Lord with a sure plan/purpose gives correct counsel

1 Samuel 2:9 AMP
9 He will guard the feet of His godly ones, but the wicked shall be silenced and perish in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.

From NetBible 1Sam 2:9

  • guard[08104] = keep, protect, watch over
  • strength[03581] = human power, might
  • prevail[01396] = be strong, be powerful, be mighty, be great
Psalm 40:11 AMP
11 Withhold not Your tender mercy from me, O Lord; let Your loving-kindness and Your truth continually preserve me!Thank You that it’s Your hand{strength} that preserves me and helps me to follow Your lead.

You Are Not Your Own

November 9, 2014

Image from:

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 AMP
19 Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own,
20 You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body.

1 Corinthians 7:23 AMP
23 You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for by Christ]; then do not yield yourselves up to become [in your own estimation] slaves to men [but consider yourselves slaves to Christ].

A slave to Christ – a bond servant to Jesus. What does this mean?

Exodus 21:2-6 AMP
2 If you buy a Hebrew servant [as the result of debt or theft], he shall serve six years, and in the seventh he shall go out free, paying nothing.
3 If he came [to you] by himself, he shall go out by himself; if he came married, then his wife shall go out with him.
4 If his master has given him a wife and she has borne him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master’s, and he shall go out [of your service] alone.
5 But if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go free,
6 Then his master shall bring him to God [the judges as His agents]; he shall bring him to the door or doorpost and shall pierce his ear with an awl; and he shall serve him for life.

The law controlled slaves when slavery was a fact among the Israelites. There was a time limit of six years. After that, the slave was to go free. Then comes verse five; “But if the slave declares, ‘I love my master … and do not want to go free’, then his master must take him before the judges … and pierce his ear … then he will be his servant for life.

The bondservant willingly chooses to be a slave because of love for the “master”. This is a lifelong commitment.

The pierced ear became a symbol (sign) of permanent possession. After that there would never be any doubt as to who the bondservant belonged or served.
