Haughty Eyes

Proverbs 21:4 NASB
Haughty eyes and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, is sin.

From NetBible Prv 21:4

  • * the life ( = lamp), which is arrogance and pride, is sin.

Proverbs 24:19-20 NASB
19 Do not fret because of evildoers or be envious of the wicked;
20 For there will be no future for the evil man; The lamp of the wicked will be put out.

From NetBible Prv 24:20

  • * no future = no future hope, no future reward
  • * lamp put out = life snuffed out like a candle

Luke 11:34-35 NASB
34 The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness.

From NetBible Lk 11:34
NLT … Your eye is a lamp for your body. A pure eye lets sunshine into your soul. But an evil eye shuts out the light and plunges you into darkness.

  • lamp[3088] = an eye, like a lamp shows the body which way to turn
  • clear[573] = single(in union, fixed on Christ), whole/sound/healthy(fulfilling it’s office)
  • bad[4190] = diseased, blind, evil

35 Then watch out that the light in you is not darkness.

From NetBible Lk 11:35

  • * This is a present imperative, calling for a constant watch – keep your lamps burning

Keep your eyes fixed on Christ
And your lamps burning with fresh oil
==> the golden oil of His Holy Spirit empowered Word!
==> sweeter than honey and stronger than a lion!

Answer to the riddle Judge 14:18:

“What is sweeter than honey? And what is stronger than a lion?”

The Lord’s words are sweeter than honey!
How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth! -Ps 119:103

The Spirit of the LORD’s empowerment is stronger than any lion
6 And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him(Samson), and he tore the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat, though he had nothing in his hand. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done. -Jdg 14:6

1 Then the angel who was speaking with me returned and roused me, as a man who is awakened from his sleep. 2 He said to me, “What do you see?” And I said, “I see, and behold, a lampstand all of gold with its bowl on the top of it, and its seven lamps on it with seven spouts belonging to each of the lamps which are on the top of it; 3 also two olive trees by it, one on the right side of the bowl and the other on its left side.”

4 Then I said to the angel who was speaking with me saying, “What are these, my lord?”

5 So the angel who was speaking with me answered and said to me, “Do you not know what these are?” And I said, “No, my lord.”

6 Then he said to me, “This is(signifies) the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel saying, ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the LORD of hosts. -Zech 4:1-6
