Behold I AM Coming Like A Thief

April 29, 2015

Revelation 16:15 AMP
15 Behold, I am going to come like a thief! Blessed (happy, to be envied) is he who stays awake (alert) and who guards his clothes, so that he may not be naked and [have the shame of being] seen exposed!

1 Thessalonians 5:1-5 AMP
1 But as to the suitable times and the precise seasons and dates, brethren, you have no necessity for anything being written to you.
2 For you yourselves know perfectly well that the day of the [return of the] Lord will come [as unexpectedly and suddenly] as a thief in the night.
3 When people are saying, All is well and secure, and, There is peace and safety, then in a moment unforeseen destruction (ruin and death) will come upon them as suddenly as labor pains come upon a woman with child; and they shall by no means escape, for there will be no escape.
4 But you are not in [given up to the power of] darkness, brethren, for that day to overtake you by surprise like a thief.
5 For you are all sons of light and sons of the day; we do not belong either to the night or to darkness.

The Lord comes like a thief in the night to those
saying “Peace and Safety” “All is well”

But His children will not be surprised
His children will be awake and alert, “guarding their clothes”
His children will not be naked
His children will be clothed in white.

Revelation 3:1-6 AMP
Message to Sardis
1 “To the angel of the church in Sardis write:

He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars, says this: ‘I know your deeds, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead. 2 Wake up, and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die; for I have not found your deeds completed in the sight of My God. 3 So remember what you have received and heard; and keep it, and repent. Therefore if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come to you. 4 But you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their garments; and they will walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. 5 He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. 6 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’

Revelation 19:7-8 AMP
7 Let us rejoice and shout for joy [exulting and triumphant]! Let us celebrate and ascribe to Him glory and honor, for the marriage of the Lamb [at last] has come, and His bride has prepared herself.
8 She has been permitted to dress in fine (radiant) linen, dazzling and white—for the fine linen is (signifies, represents) the righteousness (the upright, just, and godly living, deeds, and conduct, and right standing with God) of the saints (God’s holy people).

Love in Deed and Truth

Living Faith

April 26, 2015

Hebrews 10:37-39 AMP
37 For still a little while (a very little while), and the Coming One will come and He will not delay.
38 But the just shall live by faith [My righteous servant shall live by his conviction respecting man’s relationship to God and divine things, and holy fervor born of faith and conjoined with it]; and if he draws back and shrinks in fear, My soul has no delight or pleasure in him.
39 But our way is not that of those who draw back to eternal misery (perdition) and are utterly destroyed, but we are of those who believe [who cleave to and trust in and rely on God through Jesus Christ, the Messiah] and by faith preserve the soul.

Romans 1:17 AMP
17 For in the Gospel a righteousness which God ascribes is revealed, both springing from faith and leading to faith [disclosed through the way of faith that arouses to more faith]. As it is written, The man who through faith is just and upright shall live and shall live by faith.

The just shall live by faith
Not shrinking back
But pressing in
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

This faith leads to more faith
Trust in the Lord Jesus Christ

Don’t give up
Keep pressing in!

Colossians 2:6-7 NLT
6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to live in obedience to Him. 7 Let your roots grow down into Him and draw up nourishment from Him, so you will grow in faith, strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with thanksgiving for all He has done.

Faith(The Humble) contrasted to The Proud
Faith Proud Verse
righteous are preserved – they do not faint(Isa 40:31) – they live the proud with impure/greedy desires can’t withstand God’s judgement – they faint Hab 2:4
faithful are preserved the proud are judged by God and paid back in full Ps31:23
blessed is the one who makes the LORD his trust the proud fall away to lies or turn to false gods Ps40:4
the humble are given grace by God the proud are opposed by God Pro3:34;1Pe5:5;Ja4:6
the humble will be honored by God the proud will be humiliated by God Pro29:23
The humble stand firm in faith and endure the proud rebel(do not stand firm) and are devoured by the sword Isa7:9,1:19-20
The Lord’s blessing is on the faithful who trust in Him The Lord’s curse is on the proud who trust in mere human beings and whose heart turns away from the Lord Jer17:5-8

Abide in the Teaching of Christ

April 25, 2015

2 John 1:8-11 AMP
8 Look to yourselves (take care) that you may not lose (throw away or destroy) all that we and you have labored for, but that you may [persevere until you] win and receive back a perfect reward [in full].
9 Anyone who runs on ahead [of God] and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ [who is not content with what He taught] does not have God; but he who continues to live in the doctrine (teaching) of Christ [does have God], he has both the Father and the Son.
10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine [is disloyal to what Jesus Christ taught], do not receive him [do not accept him, do not welcome or admit him] into [your] house or bid him Godspeed or give him any encouragement.
11 For he who wishes him success [who encourages him, wishing him Godspeed] is a partaker in his evil doings.

From NetBible 2 Jn 1:9

  • NRSV … Everyone who does not abide in the teaching of Christ, but goes beyond it, does not have God; whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.

From Commentary 2 Jn 1:9

  • to advance beyond the limits of the (Christian) doctrine,”
=> contains an ironical allusion to the pretensions of the false teachers to have advanced to a “higher” degree of knowledge.
  • Anyone who goes beyond the doctrine of Christ
=> has no “true” knowledge or relationship to God or Christ
  •  It is necessary not merely to believe in God but to believe in Him “through Christ” (1 Peter 1:21).

1 Peter 1:21-23 AMP
21 Through Him you believe in (adhere to, rely on) God, Who raised Him up from the dead and gave Him honor and glory, so that your faith and hope are [centered and rest] in God.
22 Since by your obedience to the Truth through the [Holy] Spirit you have purified your hearts for the sincere affection of the brethren, [see that you] love one another fervently from a pure heart.
23 You have been regenerated (born again), not from a mortal origin (seed, sperm), but from one that is immortal by the ever living and lasting Word of God.

Love is to a Standard

April 22, 2015

2 John 1:4-6 AMP
4 I was greatly delighted to find some of your children walking (living) in [the] Truth, just as we have been commanded by the Father [Himself].
5 And now I beg you, lady (Cyria), not as if I were issuing a new charge (injunction or command), but [simply recalling to your mind] the one we have had from the beginning, that we love one another.
6 And what this love consists in is this: that we live and walk in accordance with and guided by His commandments (His orders, ordinances, precepts, teaching). This is the commandment, as you have heard from the beginning, that you continue to walk in love [guided by it and following it].

Notice that the above “love” is to a standard
To walk in love = To walk in His Truth
You can’t walk in love if you are not walking in His Truth!

1 John 2:3-5 NKJV
The Test of Knowing Him
3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.

1 John 5:1-3 NKJV
5 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.

Matthew 22:36-40 NKJV
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”

37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Love is to a Standard=>You can’t walk in love IF you are not walking in His Truth!

Freedom in the Truth

April 19, 2015

John 8:31-32,36 AMPC
31 So Jesus said to those Jews who had believed in Him, If you abide in My word [hold fast to My teachings and live in accordance with them], you are truly My disciples.
32 And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free. …

36 So if the Son liberates you [makes you free men], then you are really and unquestionably free.

Philippians 4:8-9 AMPC
8 For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].
9 Practice what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and model your way of living on it, and the God of peace (of untroubled, undisturbed well-being) will be with you.

Inner Truth

April 18, 2015

Psalm 51:6 AMP
6 Behold, You desire truth in the inner being; make me therefore to know wisdom in my inmost heart.

Psalm 15:1-2 AMP
1 Lord, who shall dwell [temporarily] in Your tabernacle? Who shall dwell [permanently] on Your holy hill?
2 He who walks and lives uprightly and blamelessly, who works rightness and justice and speaks and thinks the truth in his heart …

Proverbs 2:6 AMP
6 For the Lord gives skillful and godly Wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Divine wisdom
Spiritual discernment
Come from the Lord’s
Divine instruction.

Truth in your inner most being
=> leads to the Lord’s holy hill, His dwelling
=> leads to His praise
=> leads to the help of your countenance.

Psalm 43:3-5 AMP
3 O send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me; let them bring me to Your holy hill and to Your dwelling.
4 Then will I go to the altar of God, to God, my exceeding joy; yes, with the lyre will I praise You, O God, my God!
5 Why are you cast down, O my inner self? And why should you moan over me and be disquieted within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him, Who is the help of my [sad] countenance, and my God.

Stand Firm!

April 16, 2015

Exodus 14:13-14 AMP
13 Moses told the people, Fear not; stand still (firm, confident, undismayed) and see the salvation of the Lord which He will work for you today. For the Egyptians you have seen today you shall never see again.
14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace and remain at rest.

Don’t be afraid
Stand Firm

The Lord fights for those who love Him

Psalm 91:14 AMP
14 Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness—trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].

Love in Deed and Truth

April 12, 2015

1 John 3:18 NASB
18 Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.

From NetBible 1 Jn 3:18

  • *understand the first noun in each pair as produced by the second noun: Words are produced by the tongue, and the (righteous) deeds with which believers are to love one another are produced by the truth.

Words are produced by the tongue
Deeds are produced by Truth
=> The way we love one another is produced by Truth.

1 Peter 1:22 AMP
22 Since by your obedience to the Truth through the [Holy] Spirit you have purified your hearts for the sincere affection of the brethren, [see that you] love one another fervently from a pure heart.
23 You have been regenerated (born again), not from a mortal origin (seed), but from one that is immortal by the ever living and lasting Word of God.

Obedience to the Truth(Word of God) purifies the heart
This purification precedes the ability to love one another fervently.

Ephesians 5:8-11 NASB
8 … you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light 9 (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), 10 trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them …

Eat the Meat and Spit Out the Bones

April 11, 2015

“Eat the Meat and Spit Out the Bones”
Here’s a popular line used to try to silence people seeking the truth. I hear it alot.

Eat the meat and spit out the bones!

This is a phrase that’s been used on me when questioning a false teaching or an error. It is a plea to allow the mixture of truth and error or good and bad to continue because some truth or good is present. It is feared that removing the bad would stop the good, so the mixture is encouraged. Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water!

The following scripture is often quoted to support this.

1 Thess 5:19-21
Do not put out the Spirit’s fire; do not treat prophecies with contempt. Test everything. Hold on to the good.

Notice what is not quoted – the very next verse.

22Avoid every kind of evil.

How are we to avoid evil if we are encouraged to accept mixture?

I guess these people have never heard of a little leaven.

Galatians 5:7-10 AMP
You were running the race nobly. Who has interfered in (hindered and stopped you from) your heeding and following the Truth? This [evil] persuasion is not from Him Who called you [Who invited you to freedom in Christ]. A little leaven (a slight inclination to error, or a few false teachers) leavens the whole lump [it perverts the whole conception of faith or misleads the whole church]. [For my part] I have confidence [toward you] in the Lord that you will take no contrary view of the matter but will come to think with me. But he who is unsettling you, whoever he is, will have to bear the penalty.

Perhaps this is why we desparately need leadrers who can teach sound doctrine and refute people who oppose it —

Titus 1:7-11
Since an overseer is entrusted with God’s work, he must be blameless— not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it. For there are many rebellious people, mere talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision group. They must be silenced, because they are ruining whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for the sake of dishonest gain.

Can the leaven really be left in the loaf? Can one really eat the bread and spit out the leaven?
