    Reasons John wrote this letter:

    1. These things we write, so that our joy may be made complete. -1Jn 1:4
    2. My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. … -1Jn 2:1
    3. These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you. -1Jn 2:26
    4. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. -1Jn 5:13

But before he begins that, he gives us a prelude, which is really the key to the way truth, righteousness and love can be made manifest in your life. There is a relationship that is necessary. That relationship John terms fellowship with Christ — oneness with him, an identification of your life with Jesus Christ. Now if you do not have that, you cannot produce righteousness, truth and love. It is impossible.
