No Vision = No Provision

November 30, 2015

Proverbs 29:18 AMP … Where there is no vision [no revelation of God and His word], the people are unrestrained;
But happy and blessed is he who keeps the law [of God].

From NetBible Prv 29:18

  • no vision[02377] = prophecy (divine communication)
    => vision, dream, revelation, message
  • unrestrained[06544] = perish, exposed, made naked
    =>they perish because they have no restraint
    => they run wild
  • The law here refers to scripture, the concrete form of revelation. So the two halves of the verse provide the contrast: When there is no prophetic revelation there is chaos, but those who keep the revelation contained in scripture find blessing.
  • keep[08104] shamar =  guard, watch over, protect, to hedge about (as with thorns)

No Vision = No Provision for the Lord’s blessing …

Ezekiel 13:5 NASB … You have not gone up into the breaches, nor did you build the wall around the house of Israel to stand in the battle on the day of the LORD.

From NetBible Ezk 13:5

  • KJV … You have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge{hedged the hedge(protective wall)} for the house of Israel to stand in battle on the day of the LORD.

No Vision = No ability to hedge the hedge(protective wall)
=> No protection against false prophets

Write the Vision

November 28, 2015

Habakkuk 2:1-3 NASB … I will stand on my guard post
And station myself on the rampart;
And I will keep watch to see what He will speak to me,
And how I may reply when I am reproved.

From NetBible Hab 2:1

guard post[04931] = a place to watch, observe
rampart[04692] = strong tower/ fortress, a place hemmed in
keep watch[06822] = wait expectantly, look up

2 Then the Lord answered me and said,
“Record the vision and inscribe it on tablets,
That the one who reads it may run.

From NetBible Hab 2:2

record[03789] = write
inscribe[0874] = make it plain/clear
may run = *run [through it quickly with one’s eyes]
=> so it can be read easily

3 “For the vision is yet for the appointed time;
It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail.
Though it tarries, wait for it;
For it will certainly come, it will not delay.

Need a specific vision or guidance from the Lord?

  1. Set aside a time of prayer/worship each day to meet with the Lord in the secret place
  2. Ask the Lord to hem you in and lay His hand upon you

    Psalm 139:5 NIV … You hem me in—behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.

    Ezekiel 40:1-2 NASB … In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth of the month, in the fourteenth year after the city was taken, on that same day the hand of the LORD was upon me and He brought me there. 2 In the visions of God He brought me into the land of Israel and set me on a very high mountain, and on it to the south there was a structure like a city.

    From NetBible Ezek 40:1

    • *Hand upon in the OT can refer metaphorically to power, authority, or influence. In Ezekiel God’s hand being on the prophet is regularly associated with communication or a vision from God
      =>Ezekiel 1:1-3; 3:12-14, 22; 8:1; 37:1; 40:1
  3. Expectantly wait in worship for the Lord’s answer
    Look up! => Keep thanking the Lord for what He is doing in your life
  4. Write what the Lord shows you so it can be easily read
  5. Keep the vision where you can easily read it
  6. Ask and trust that the Lord will send others to help accomplish the vision – trust His provision for His vision
  7. Be faithful to take the next step in accomplishing the vision when it is presented by the Lord

On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided!

From NetBible Gen 22:14

  • provided[07200] = seen, looked at, perceived, have vision

Write the Vision to SEE His Provision-His Vision comes b4 His Provision! #TrustHim

I trust in Him with all my heart and I am helped
My heart leaps for joy
And with my song I thank Him in gratitude!

The key to a grateful heart which thanks the Lord

Before the Breach

November 22, 2015

Isaiah 30:12-13 AMP … Therefore, the Holy One of Israel says this, “Because you have refused and rejected this word [of Mine] And have put your trust in oppression and guile, and have relied on them, 13 Therefore this wickedness [this sin, this injustice, this wrongdoing] will be to you like a crack{breach} [in a wall] about to fall, a bulge in a high wall, whose collapse comes suddenly in an instant …

Before the breach in a wall
=> There is a bulge

What is this bulge?

  • Making plans without consulting the LordIs 30:1
  • Making alliances without consulting the Spirit
    {trusting Egypt for protection} –Is 30:1
    => They didn’t trust in the promise and protection of the Lord, but relied on human aid. –Is 30:12
  • Unwilling to obey God’s law or use it as a plumb line to judge –Is 30:9
  • Unwilling to hear what is right, only want to hear “nice” things{trust in false prophets} –Is 30:10

Before the “bulge” turns into a breach
Use God’s word- the plumb line
To correct the bulge.
Otherwise the Lord will use the plumb line
To sweep away the lies and
Remove any false sense of security
=> the wall will be suddenly breached! –
Is 28:17

Isaiah 28:7,16-17 NASB … And these also reel with wine and stagger from strong drink: The priest and the prophet reel with strong drink, They are confused by wine, they stagger from strong drink; They reel while having visions, They totter when rendering judgment. …
… 16 Therefore thus says the Lord God,
“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed. 17 “I will make justice the measuring line And righteousness the level; Then hail will sweep away the refuge of lies And the waters will overflow the secret place.

1 Corinthians 11:31-32 NASB … But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord so that we will not be condemned along with the world.

Living Stones Beautifully Laid

November 17, 2015

1 Peter 2:4-9 NASB … As Living Stones
4 And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For this is contained in Scripture: “Behold, I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious corner stone, and he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.” 7 This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, “The stone which the builders rejected, this became the very corner stone,” 8 and, “A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense”;
for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed. 9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light …

Living stones placed with care
A spiritual temple
A holy house
Beautifully built and laid
Upright, cut straight, true to plumb –2Tim 2:15
Resting secure upon the Corner Stone. –Eph 4:14-16

Living stones formed to show forth His praise
Streams in the desert –Isa 43:20-21
Marvelous light
Proclaiming the goodness of God
Through Jesus Christ sacrifices of praise
The fruit of lips giving thanks to His name!He 13:15

Measuring Line = Plumb Line

November 16, 2015

Isaiah 28:16-17 NASB … Therefore thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed. 17 “I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the level; Then hail will sweep away the refuge of lies And the waters will overflow the secret place”.

From NetBible Cornerstone

  • The cornerstone here is Christ
  • The cornerstone is of great importance in binding together the sides of a building. The phrase “corner-stone” is sometimes used to denote any principal person, as the princes of Egypt, (Is 19:13) and is thus applied to our Lord. (Is 28:16Mt 21:421Pe 2:6-7)

From Godvine Is 28:17

  • Barnes Notes:  Judgment also will I lay to the line – The sense of this is, I will judge them according to the exact rule of law, as an architect frames everything according to the rule which he uses. In other words, there shall be no mercy intermingled. The line is used by a carpenter for measuring; the plummet consists of a piece of lead attached to a string, and is also used by carpenters to obtain a perpendicular line. A carpenter works exactly according to the lines which are thus indicated, or his frame would not be properly adjusted. So God says that he would judge the people of Jerusalem according to the exact rule, without any intermingling of mercy.
    And the hail … – (Isaiah 28:2). Hail, hailstones, and floods of waters are frequent images of the divine vengeance and wrath Psalm 105:32; Isaiah 22:19; Isaiah 30:30; Ezekiel 13:13; Ezekiel 38:22; Revelation 8:7; Revelation 11:19; Revelation 16:21.
  • Wesley’s Notes:  Plummet – I will execute just judgment, as it were by a line and plummet annexed to it; that is, with exactness and care: I will severely punish, and utterly destroy all who reject that stone. For the line and plummet, or the plumb – line, was not only used in erecting buildings, but also in pulling them down; those parts of the building being thus marked out, which were to be demolished.

The Measuring line/ Plumb line is used to see if what is built upon the cornerstone of Christ, lines up with Christ. That which does not line up is rejected – swept away.

God’s rule, His plumb line is His word.

2 Timothy 2:15 NKJV … Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

From NetBible 2Tim 2:15

  • study[4704] = make every effort with all diligence
  • approved[1384] = shown to be genuine, not counterfeit
  • workman[2040] = teacher, laborer (for God)
  • rightly dividing[3718] = to cut straight, to proceed on a straight path, to make smooth and straight, to teach correctly

Cuts straight => In placing blocks together to build something, if the blocks are not cut straight, they won’t “stand” or fit together very easily. They will be easily  knocked down and swept away!

Ephesians 4:14-16 AMP … So then, we may no longer be children, tossed [like ships] to and fro between chance gusts of teaching and wavering with every changing wind of doctrine, [the prey of] the cunning and cleverness of unscrupulous men, [gamblers engaged] in every shifting form of trickery in inventing errors to mislead. 15 Rather, let our lives lovingly express truth [in all things, speaking truly, dealing truly, living truly]. Enfolded in love, let us grow up in every way and in all things into Him Who is the Head, [even] Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One). 16 For because of Him the whole body (the church, in all its various parts), closely joined and firmly knit together by the joints and ligaments with which it is supplied, when each part [with power adapted to its need] is working properly [in all its functions], grows to full maturity, building itself up in love.

Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth

Judge Rightly Now!

Isaiah 28:21 NASB … For the Lord will rise up as at Mount Perazim, He will be stirred up as in the valley of Gibeon, to do His task, His unusual task, and to work His work, His extraordinary work.

From NetBible Is 28:21

  • This probably alludes to David’s victory over the Philistines at Baal Perazim. See 2 Sa 5:20 , 1 Chr 14:11
    =>The Lord broke through the enemies like the sudden breakthrough of waters(his wrath)
  • This probably alludes to the Lord’s victory over the Canaanites at Gibeon, during the days of Joshua. See Jsh 10:10-13.
    =>The sun stood still while Joshua battled Canaanites
    =>The Lord suddenly threw down hailstones(his wrath) on the enemies
    or at Gibeon after Baal Perazim 1 Chr 14:16
  • God’s judgment of his own people is called “his peculiar(unusual) work” and “his strange task,” because he must deal with them the way He treated their enemies in the past.

An interesting verse that shows how the Lord suddenly both acts on behalf of His people and brings judgement. It is a warning to His people to judge rightly. If you look at the rest of Isaiah 28 – you’ll see the Lord is judging His own people starting with the priests and prophets – this is His “unusual work”. The sobering reason => they did not render proper judgement using God’s measuring line, His word. It is a warning urging God’s people to judge rightly now!

Word Study
Psalm 34:8 AMPC … O taste and see that the Lord [our God] is good! Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who trusts and takes refuge in Him.

From NetBible Ps 34:8

  • taste[02938] = to perceive, know
  • see[07200] = look at, inspect, perceive, consider, behold gaze

Psalm 11:7 AMPC … For the Lord is [rigidly] righteous, He loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold His face, or He beholds the upright.

From NetBible Ps 11:7

  • behold[02372] = to see, perceive, prophesy, provide, contemplate (with pleasure)
    =>To “behold” God’s “face” means to have access to His presence and to experience His favor

The Secret Place of the Stairs

November 12, 2015

Song of Solomon 2:14 KJV … O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely.

From NetBible Song 2:14

  • clefts[02288] = hiding place, place of concealment, safety, refuge
  • secret place[05643] = hiding place, shelter, cover
  • stairs[04095] = steep or inaccessible place, pathway

What is this secret place of the steep stairway?

The secret place is in the cleft of the Rock. Remember Moses? Where he asked to see the Lord’s glory(Ex 33)? The Lord told him to stand on the Rock. Then the Lord put him in the cleft and covered him with His hand. The Rock is Christ(1Co 10:4). The cleft in the Rock is the secret place of the Most High, beneath the shadow of His wings(Ps 91).  It’s interesting that the name Most High associated with this secret place is from a root meaning to climb or ascend(see below). This is a place that can only be reached through Jesus Christ – you can’t get there on your own.

Psalm 40:1-3 AMPC … I waited patiently and expectantly for the Lord; And He inclined to me and heard my cry. 2 He brought me up out of a horrible pit [of tumult and of destruction], out of the miry clay, And He set my feet upon a rock, steadying my footsteps and establishing my path. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear [with great reverence] And will trust confidently in the Lord.

Psalm 91:1 AMPC … He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand].

From NetBible Ps 91:1

  • Most High[05945] = sovereign one, sovereign King, elevated above all
    *from [05927] = to go up, ascend, climb

Glory From the Cleft

November 10, 2015

Pour forth, pour forth –Ps 119:171
From the cleft –Sos 2:14
Living water pure and clear –Ezek 47
From the Rock –Is 48:21;Ps 78:16;1Co 10:4
Faithful and true –Rev 19:11
Word of God –Rev 19:13
Pour forth, pour forth
Before the throne –Rev 19:4-5
With the voice of many waters –Rev 14:2
The roar of a great multitude –Rev 19:1
Glory from the cleft –Ex 33:22
Pour forth, pour forth
RENEW! –Ro 12:1-2

Romans 12:1-2 AMPC … I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].

The Lord’s glory is revealed by His voice of many waters(Rev 1:15, Ezek 43:2). His bride in His likeness has the same voice(Rev 19:5-7).

Notice that the Bride’s voice of many waters is heard after the command to praise(Rev 19:4-5)! It’s after this that the King of Glory is revealed in heaven which has been opened(Rev 19:11).

=> high praise, the new songs come from being taught the Lord’s word by the Holy Spirit in the cleft, and the dove sings from the cleft(Sos 2:14)!

His glory not only is seen from, but pours forth from the cleft. It’s the living water pouring from the temple(Ezek 47) – ankle deep, knee deep(getting deeper!) — enough to swim in. This living water also pours from the cleft – the temple – before the throne.

As we enter the secret place – the cleft – this living water and glory pour forth – for not only us but others to drink. It’s interesting how the new song seems to be related to high praise and this pouring forth from the cleft(see below).
There is a condition though — we need to be separate from the world – we can’t be entangled. We need to make a conscious decision to do this, and then we will be RENEWED and know what the Lord’s will is for us!

Psalm 119:171 NKJV … My lips shall utter praise, For You teach me Your statutes.

From NetBible Ps 119:171

  • utter[05042] = flow, pour forth, burst forth, bubble up
  • praise[08416] = song, high praise, adoration of the Lord
    * from hala[01984] = shine, boast, glory, celebrate

From NetBible Ps 149:1-2
Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, praise[08416] Him in the assembly of His saints! 2 Let Israel rejoice in Him, their Maker; let Zion’s children triumph and be joyful[01523] in their King!
