Matthew 19:14 NET … But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not try to stop them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

From NetBible Mt 19:14

  • * Children are a picture of those whose simple trust illustrates what faith is all about.
  • * Little children have a trusting spirit, as well as willingness to be dependent and receive from others{especially their Father} –Mt 18:3

  • * The title Lord is an important name for God, showing his sovereignty, but it is interesting that it comes next to a reference to the Father, a term indicative of God’s care.

    From 365 Promises:

Promise #66: I delight to reveal My kingdom to those with a childlike heart.

In today’s promise, we read how Jesus delightfully declares that the mysteries of the kingdom are actually hidden from the wise and prudent and revealed to little children. I especially like how the Amplified Bible translates this passage of Scripture…

Matthew 11:25-26… 25At that time Jesus began to say, I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth [and I acknowledge openly and joyfully to Your honor], that You have hidden these things from the wise and clever and learned, and revealed them to babies [to the childish, untaught, and unskilled]. (AMP)

To further illustrate this truth, I would encourage you to read Matthew 18:1-4. In this passage of Scripture, the disciples were arguing about who would be the greatest in the kingdom. I can’t imagine how surprised they would have been when Jesus called out a little child as an example of one whom He considered to be great in His kingdom.

Jesus does not call us to be childish, but He does call us to be childlike. Little children live a completely dependent life. They know they are small and they carry within their little bodies a humility that causes them to trust completely in their parents’ care. The more that we can see the incredible value in having a childlike heart towards our heavenly Father, the more we will be able to grasp the mysteries of our Papa’s amazing kingdom.

    From Our Daily Bread:

    Loving Jesus, gentle Lamb,
    In Thy gracious hands I am;
Make me, Savior, what Thou art,
    Live Thyself within my heart.
    -Charles Wesley

Father, give me the faith of a little child. I want
to know Your love and care, and to rest in Your
embrace. Grant my desire to be like You in all
my ways that I might live for Your honor.

Faith shines brightest in a childlike heart.
