When we walk with the Lord, we’ll be out of step with the world.

Hebrews 13:20-21 NKJV … Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21 make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

    From Our Daily Bread:

    Two college students in Moorhead, Minnesota, painted a mural on the wall outside their dormitory room. According to USA Today, it showed a school of fish all swimming in the same direction except for a single fish heading the opposite way.

    The one fish was intended to be the age-old symbol for Christ. Printed on the picture were the words, “Go against the flow.” University officials, arguing that the mural might offend non-Christians, ordered the students to paint over it.

    In obedience to our Master, we must be willing to go against the flow of society. As we follow Jesus, our motives, values, and habits are bound to be different from those who are not Christians. That’s the way it was in the first century when the pagans were puzzled and convicted by the lifestyle of Christians. Peter wrote, “They think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you” (1 Peter 4:4).

    When we are marching to the beat of a different drummer, of course we will be out of step with certain aspects of society. This takes conviction, courage, and courtesy. But by God’s enabling grace we can be disturbingly different—and effectively different too.

    Some will hate you, some will love you;
    Some will flatter, some will slight;
    Cease from man and look above you,
    Trust in God and do the right. —Macleod

    Galatians 5:25 NIV … Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

    When we keep in step with the Spirit of the Lord, we’ll be out of step with the world.

    1 Corinthians 2:4-5 AMPC … And my language and my message were not set forth in persuasive (enticing and plausible) words of wisdom, but they were in demonstration of the [Holy] Spirit and power [a proof by the Spirit and power of God, operating on me and stirring in the minds of my hearers the most holy emotions and thus persuading them],
    5 So that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men (human philosophy), but in the power of God.

    2 Corinthians 5:7,9 Amplified Bible (AMP)
    7 for we walk by faith, not by sight [living our lives in a manner consistent with our confident belief in God’s promises]—
    … 9 Therefore, whether we are at home [on earth] or away from home [and with Him], it is our [constant] ambition to be pleasing to Him.

    Galatians 5:25 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
    25 If we live by the [Holy] Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. [If by the Holy Spirit [a]we have our life in God, let us go forward [b]walking in line, our conduct controlled by the Spirit.]
    .
    Romans 12:2 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
    2 Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].

    Galatians 1:9-10 Amplified Bible (AMP)
    9 As we have said before, so I now say again, if anyone is preaching to you a gospel different from that which you received [from us], let him be condemned to destruction!
    .
    10 Am I now trying to win the favor and approval of men, or of God? Or am I seeking to please someone? If I were still trying to be popular with men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.

    1 Thessalonians 2:2-4 Amplified Bible (AMP)
    2 … yet in [the strength of] our God we summoned the courage to proclaim boldly to you the good news of God [regarding salvation] amid great opposition. 3 For our appeal does not come from delusion or impure motives, nor [is it motivated] by deceit [our message is complete, accurate, and based on the truth—it does not change]. 4 But just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel [that tells the good news of salvation through faith in Christ], so we speak, not as [if we were trying] to please people [to gain power and popularity], but to please God who examines our hearts [expecting our best].
