Worldly -Without God Godly – With God
The oppressed
Have no comforter
Have no deliverer
Oppressors have power
Ecc 4:1
The Holy Spirit is the Comforter –Jn 14:16,26
The Father is
… the God of ALL comfort –2Cor 1:3-4
The Lord is helper and deliverer –Ps 40:17
The Lord delivers the oppressed
… but brings down the proud –Ps 18:27
The Lord provides safety for
… the oppressed –Ps 9:9
More than conquerors in Christ –Ro 8:35-39
Better to be dead
Best never to be born
Ecc 4:2-3
To live is Christ and to die is gain –Phil 1:21
Neither death, nor life separate us
… from Christ’s love –Ro 8:35-39
All labor & skillful work
Motivated by envy
Like chasing the wind
Idleness is no better
Ecc 4:4-5
Unless the LORD builds the house
its builders labour in vain –Ps 127:1
Give yourselves fully to labor in the Lord
… labor in the Lord is not in vain –1Cor 15:58
Do not grow weary while doing good
… in due time we will reap a harvest –Gal 6:9
Grasping for the most
Labor can offer
Like chasing the wind
Ecc 4:6
Better is a little with the fear of the LORD
… than great treasure with trouble –Pro 15:16
Godliness with contentment
… is great gain –1Tim 6:6
Meaningless to be alone
Not content with wealth
None to share with
None to leave it to
Ecc 4:7-8
Two are better than one
If one falls the other can help
Two together can provide warmth
Two together can provide stronger defense

Three are better than two

Members of the body of Christ

Grasping for prestige

Vanity of Pleasure and Treasure

Ecclesiastes 2:1,11 I thought in my heart, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure to find out what is good.” But that also proved to be vanity/meaningless/futile. …
… But as I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish(treasure), it was all so meaningless. It was like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere under the sun.

Following Christ’s heart(path life)
In His presence fullness of joy
At His right hand pleasures forevermore

Self-indulgent laughter
Is foolish
Accomplishes nothing
Ecc 2:2
Self-indulgent laughter
Is a judgement from the Lord
Leads to perpetual sleep
Jer 51:39

Healthy laughter/joy in the Lord
Brings strength, honor and healing

Self-indulgent pleasure
(intoxicating wine) is folly
Ecc 2:3
Self-indulgent pleasure
Leads away from Godly wisdom Pro 20:1
Leads to ruin and drowsiness
(lack of discernment) Pro 23:21

Instead be filled with the Spirit
To have discernment to know God’s will/wisdom

Increase of building projects
Accumulation of slaves & herds
Accumulation of silver & gold
Acquired a universal reputation
Total self-indulgence
All meaningless
Like chasing the wind
Nothing gained from them on earth
Ecc 2:4-11
Store lasting treasures in heaven
Where your treasure is
There your heart will be also

The benefits of worldly wisdom
Worldly pleasure/treasure
Are meaningless
Like chasing the wind
All die and are forgotten
Life is loathed
Ecc 2:15-17
Absent from the body
=>Present at home with the Lord

At the last trump
We will all be raised & changed
Together with Christ

Life in Christ
Eternal love & joy

Despair results because
All the fruit of labor
May be left to fools

Apart from God
None can eat, drink or find joy

The kingdom of God
Is not a matter of eating & drinking
But righteousness, peace & joy in the Holy Spirit

Abide in Christ
To bear fruit that remains
