Grace to the Humble

Grace to the Humble
Poem
Pastor Jeff Kliewer
Scripture
See her there
It wasn’t fair
Judge doesn’t care
Persistent prayer
God is a just judge
He cares & answers His people cries
.
Nevertheless – when the Son of Man comes
Will He really find faith on the earth?
Lk 18:1-8
To enter now
A lifted brow
A humble bow
One righteous now
Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled
And he who humbles himself will be exalted.
Lk 18:9-14
Look children brought
Receive them not
Rebuke the thought
The kingdom taught
Whoever does not receive the kingdom of God
Like a child – will not enter it at all
The kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
Lk 18:15-17
Rich ruler enter
Himself the center
No quick repenter
Law his mentor
It’s easier for a camel to go thru the eye of a needle
than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.
Lk 18:18-30
Now a mystery
All thru history
Told of this story
Hung upon a tree
The Son of man will be killed(crucified)
Yet on the third day, He will rise again.
Lk 18:31-34
Have mercy on me
Beg there quietly
Have mercy on me
Given eyes to see
Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!
Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.
Lk 18:35-43
Bring losing fumble
Bring broken mumble
Bring klutzy stumble
Grace to the humble
The LORD mocks(opposes) proud mockers
but gives grace to the humble. –Pro 3:34

Humble yourselves under God’s mighty hand
that He may lift you up in due time. –1Pe 5:6

ENDURE to the End!

September 25, 2017

I was feeling pretty weak(no endurance) when I saw this quote on Facebook

The Race Is NOT to the Swift or Strong
But to those who ENDURE to the End!
OpenBible quote

Shortly after I came across this pic and was encouraged!

The only way to “finish strong” is to keep
Christ’s mercy in view Ro 12:1
.
With eyes on Christ and His mercy
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayerRo 12:12
He’s faithful to see you through
With strength to press on & “finish strong”
.
By your [patient] endurance [empowered by the Holy Spirit] you will gain your souls. {gain eternal life} –Lk 21:19 AMP

Feed My Sheep

September 19, 2017

.
John 21:15-17 AMPC
15 When they had eaten, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these [others do—with reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion, as one loves the Father]? He said to Him, Yes, Lord, You know that I love You [that I have deep, instinctive, personal affection for You, as for a close friend]. He said to him, Feed My lambs.
16 Again He said to him the second time, Simon, son of John, do you love Me [with reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion, as one loves the Father]? He said to Him, Yes, Lord, You know that I love You [that I have a deep, instinctive, personal affection for You, as for a close friend]. He said to him, Shepherd (tend) My sheep.
17 He said to him the third time, Simon, son of John, do you love Me [with a deep, instinctive, personal affection for Me, as for a close friend]? Peter was grieved (was saddened and hurt) that He should ask him the third time, Do you love Me? And he said to Him, Lord, You know everything; You know that I love You [that I have a deep, instinctive, personal affection for You, as for a close friend]. Jesus said to him, Feed My sheep.

.
Notice how this passage is about both lambs and sheep being fed. The word for feed[1006]bosko in v15 & 17 is the same, implying lambs(immature sheep) and sheep need to be fed similar food. The word for feed[4165]poimaino in v16 is a little different, adding the idea that sheep need to be governed by a shepherd. …

Interesting how preaching the kingdom, the whole counsel of God, the undistorted truth and feeding/shepherding the flock is related in Acts 20. …

.
Acts 20:25-31Now I[Paul] know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will ever see me again. 26 Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of any of you. 27 For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will(counsel) of God. 28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of/feed[4165]poimaino  the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. 29 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. 30 Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. 31 So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.
.
Trust in the LORD and do good(what is right)
Feed on His faithfulness = Truth
Ps 37:3
His word is TruthJn 17:17
Seed for the sower
Bread for the eater
Undistorted Truth = Protection from savage wolves
His word sent forth will not return void!

.
Psalm 37:3 AMPC … Trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) in the Lord and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on His faithfulness, and truly you shall be fed.
.
Isaiah 55:10-11For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; 11 So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.

One Accord

September 13, 2017

Acts 2:1When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

From NetBible Acts 2:1

  • one accord[3661]Homothumadon = with one mind
    * Homothumadon is a compound of two words meaning to “rush along” and “in unison”. The image is almost musical; a number of notes are sounded which, while different, harmonise in pitch and tone. As the instruments of a great concert under the direction of a concert master, so the Holy Spirit blends together the lives of members of Christ’s church.

Amazing things happen when christians meet in one accord.

  • Acts 2:2-4And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.
  • Acts 2:6And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language.
  • Acts 2:38-41Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself. 40 And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation!” 41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls.

Notice the Holy Spirit comes and miracles happen when christians are in one accord.

Also notice salvation DOES NOT occur until God’s word is preached and received resulting in repentance.

What does being in one accord mean?

  • Ephesians 4:1-7 … 1 I[Paul], therefore, the prisoner for the Lord, urge you to live worthily of the calling with which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3 making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you too were called to the one hope of your calling, 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
4:7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
  • faith[4102] = conviction/belief of the truth

=> Unity of Spirit, being in one accord, is kept by guarding the faith in a shared view of truth = by contending for the faith.

From NetBible Jude 1:3
Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints.

  • faith[4102] =  conviction/belief of the truth
  • * The term “faith” has a variety of meanings in the NT. Here, the faith refers to the doctrinal content embraced by believers rather than the act of believing. Rather than discuss the points of agreement that Jude would have with these believers, because of the urgency of the present situation he must assume that these believers were well grounded and press on to encourage them to fight for this common belief.
  • “common salvation” *Jude starts by affirming that the gospel the Gentiles had received from Paul was the same as the one the Jewish Christians had received from the other apostles (our common salvation). But in the midst of writing this letter, Jude felt that the present crisis deserved another, shorter piece. The crisis, as the letter reveals, is that the false teachers whom Peter prophesied have now infiltrated the church. The letter of Jude is thus an ad hoc letter, intended to confirm the truth of Peter’s letter and encourage the saints to ground their faith in the written documents of the nascent church, rather than listen to the twisted gospel of the false teachers. In large measure, the letter of Jude illustrates the necessity of clinging to the authority of scripture as opposed to those who claim to be prophets.

Stand firm, stand secure
Stand your ground

On His word sure
Standing firm forever.Ps 119:89

Psalm 119:89Forever, O LORD, your word stands firm(stands secure, is settled/fixed) in heaven.

Ephesians 6:10-13Finally, beloved, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 For this reason, take up the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand your ground(stand firm) on the evil day, and having done everything, to stand.

Compassion Mixed With Fear

September 7, 2017

Jeremiah 8:5 Why then has this people, Jerusalem, Turned away in continual apostasy? They hold fast to deceit, They refuse to return.

Jude 1:3, 22-23Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints. …
… 22 Show compassion(mercy) to those whose faith is wavering. 23 save others, snatching them out of the fire; and on some have compassion(mercy) with fear(of God), hating even the garment polluted by the flesh.

Earnestly contend for the faith
Show compassion to those whose faith is wavering
Faith comes by hearing
And hearing by the word of God.  –Rom 10:17

Show compassion mixed with fear of God
To those in apostasy
In danger of the fire of judgement.

  • * The term “faith” has a variety of meanings in the NT. Here, the faith refers to the doctrinal content embraced by believers rather than the act of believing. .
From Biblehub Jude 1:22 & Jude 1:23

  • * None but those who “keep themselves” are likely to “save” others.
  • * Snatch out of fire = the imminent danger (as of one who is asleep in a burning house) in which the fire of their sins keeps them. This is the second class: those who can still be rescued, but by strong measures.
  • * Compassion mixed with fear = lest by contact with them we may be brought within the influence of the deadly contamination that clings to all their surroundings.
  • * The three classes are: (1) those who contend with you (accusative case in oldest manuscripts), whom you should convict; (2) those who are as brands already in the fire, of which hell-fire is the consummation: these you should try to save by snatching them out; (3) those who are objects of compassion, whom accordingly you should compassionate (and help if occasion should offer), but at the same time not let pity degenerate into connivance at their error. Your compassion is to be accompanied “with fear” of being at all defiled by them.

Preach the Word!

September 5, 2017

Philippians 1:27-30Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ so that – whether I[Paul] come and see you or whether I remain absent – I should hear that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind, by contending side by side for the faith of the gospel, 28 without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God. 29 For it has been granted to you not only to believe in Christ but also to suffer for Him, 30 since you are going through the same struggle(conflict) you saw I had, and now hear that I still have.

Preach the Gospel = Salvation
Preach the Kingdom = Whole counsel of God
=> for protection from deception.

Preach His word in and out of season
Whether welcome or unwelcome –
2Tim4:2
Contend earnestly for the faith. –Jude 1:3

Faith comes by hearing

Let The Lord Avenge!

September 4, 2017

Romans 12:17-19 NLT … Do not repay anyone evil for evil; consider what is good before all people. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all people. 19 Dear friends, never avenge yourselves. Leave that to God. For it is written, “I will take vengeance; I will repay those who deserve it,” says the Lord.

Do not repay evil for evil
=>Let the Lord avenge!

Trust and wait on the Lord  –Pro 20:22
In due time He will make what’s wrong right! 1Pe 5:6

Proverbs 26:27 NLT … If you set a trap for others, you will get caught in it yourself. If you roll a boulder down on others, it will roll back and crush you.

Psalm 57:6My enemies have set a trap for me. I am weary from distress. They have dug a deep pit in my path, but they themselves have fallen into it. …

Proverbs 28:10The one who leads the upright along an evil path will fall into his own trap, but the blameless will receive a good inheritance.

From NetBible Pro 20:22
Do not say, “I’ll pay you back for this wrong!” Wait for the LORD, and he will avenge you.

  • *The idea “I’ll pay you back” is “getting even” by paying back someone for the evil done.
  • To “wait”  on the Lord requires faith in him, reliance on divine justice, and patience. It means that the wrongs done to a person will have to be endured for a time.
  • In this context “He will avenge” means “deliver from the evil done to you,” and so “vindicate” is an appropriate connotation. Cf. NCV “he will make things right.”

.
From NetBible Pro 28:10
The one who leads the upright along an evil path will fall into his own trap, but the blameless will receive a good inheritance.

  • * This proverb is teaching that those who corrupt others will be destroyed, usually by their own devices, but those who manage to avoid being corrupted will be rewarded. According to this proverb the righteous can be led astray (e.g., Pro 26:27).
