Psalm 119:137-139, 136[Rigidly] righteous are You, O Lord, and upright are Your judgments and all expressions of Your will. 138 You have commanded and appointed Your testimonies in righteousness and in great faithfulness. 139 My zeal has consumed me and cut me off, because my adversaries have forgotten Your Words. …

Accept God’s Peace in Battle

February 26, 2018

Deuteronomy 20:1-4When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the LORD your God is with you, who brought you up from the land of Egypt. 2 As you move forward for battle, the priest shall come near and speak to the people. 3 He shall say: “Hear, O Israel, today you are going into battle against your enemies. Do not be faint-hearted or afraid; do not be terrified or give way to panic before them. 4 For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.
.
Exodus 14:13-14But Moses said to the people, “Do not fear! {Stand firm(without fleeing) and see the deliverance of the Lord} which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever. 14 The Lord Himself will fight for you while you keep silent{hold your peace}.”
.
Jeremiah 20:11But the LORD is with me like a mighty warrior; so my persecutors will stumble and not prevail. They will fail and be thoroughly disgraced; their dishonor{everlasting confusion} will never be forgotten.

In the midst of your trials
Do not be afraid
Stand firm on His word

Talitha Koum – Arise

February 6, 2018

Ponder Jesus stretching out His hand to raise someone up by gently taking their hand. This is powerful!!!

Artist: Michael Page
Talitha Koum – Yeshua (Jesus) took the hand of the dead girl and said to her, “Talitha koum” [meaning “little one, arise”]. I have allowed the words He spoke to evoke the idea of his talith, or prayer shawl, having played a part in this miracle as it had moments before with the healing of the lady who grasped the tzitzit fringe on the corners of His talith – Matthew 5.

.

Mark 1:29-31 NET … Now as soon as they left the synagogue, they entered Simon and Andrew’s house, with James and John. 30 Simon’s mother-in-law was lying down, sick with a fever, so they spoke to Jesus at once about her. 31 He came and raised her up by gently taking her hand. Then the fever left her and she began to serve them.

Mark 5:39-42 NET … When he entered he said to them, “Why are you distressed and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep.” 40 And they began making fun of him. But he put them all outside and he took the child’s father and mother and his own companions and went into the room where the child was. 41 Then, gently taking the child by the hand, he said to her, “Talitha koum,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up{arise}.” 42 The girl got up at once and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). They were completely astonished at this.

The phrase Talitha Koum is probably linked to the Tallit – the hem of the prayer shawl Jesus wore.

From http://www.rabdavis.org/the-tallit-in-the-nt/:
In Mark 5:41 we read: Then Yahshua “took the child by the hand, and said to her, “Tallita kumi.” The text says this Hebrew phrase is to be interpreted, “Damsel, I say to you arise{kumi/koum[2891]}.” It seems this interpreting phrase may have been added to the gospel at a later time in an attempt to interpret “Tallita kumi.” The reason for believing this is that Tallita is not Hebrew for damsel or young girl. A more accurate translation of Tallita kumi is “ Arise to my Tallit or Arise even as my Tallit. A dramatic picture of Yahshua lifting her up with one hand and raising his Tallit heavenward with the other which is a customary way of prayer.

.

Did you see it?!!!!!! As Jesus gently takes someone’s hand to “raise” them up, the fringe – the hem of His prayer shawl rises along with His hand and arm. A beautiful image of Healing rising in His wings!

Hem = Healing in His Wings
Malachi 4:2 … But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings;

From NetBible Mal 4:2

  • wings[03671] = wing, extremity, edge, winged, border, corner, shirt(of garment)
=>Ruth 2:12  … … May the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings [03671] you have come to take refuge, reward you fully
=>Ruth 3:9 … “Who are you?” he asked. “I am your servant Ruth,” she said. “Spread the corner of your garment [03671] over me, since you are a kinsman-redeemer.”

Luke 8:44 … She came up behind Jesus and touched the fringe of His robe. Immediately, the bleeding stopped.

From NetBible Lk 8:44

  • * The edge of his cloak refers to the kraspedon, the blue tassel{ tzitzit } on the garment that symbolized a Jewish man’s obedience to the law (Num 15:37-41). The woman thus touched the very part of Jesus’ clothing that indicated his ritual purity. {The issue of blood would have made her ritually unclean}
  • fringe/hem[2899] = tassel: the Jews had such appendages attached to their mantles to remind them of the law

.
Mark 6:56Wherever He entered into villages, cities, or in the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem[2899] of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well.
.
Matthew 23:5But they do all their deeds to be noticed by men; for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels[2899] of their garments.

From NetBible Mt 23:5

  • * Phylacteries were small leather cases containing OT scripture verses, worn on the arm and forehead by Jews, especially when praying. The custom was derived from such OT passages as(Ex 13:9,16; Dt 6:8, 11:18)
  • * Tassels refer to the tassels that a male Israelite was obligated to wear on the four corners of his outer garment according to the Mosaic law (Num 15:38; Dt 22:12).

Children’s Bread – Taste and See!

February 1, 2018

Matthew 15:21-25 NASB … Jesus went away from there, and withdrew into the district of Tyre and Sidon. 22 And a Canaanite woman from that region came out and began to cry out, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is cruelly demon-possessed.” 23 But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples came and implored Him, saying, “Send her away, because she keeps shouting at us.” 24 But He answered and said, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” 25 But she came and began to bow down before Him, saying, “Lord, help me!” 26 And He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” 27 But she said, “Yes, Lord; but even the dogs feed on the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” 28 Then Jesus said to her, “O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed at once.

From NetBible Mt 15:25Mt 15:28
25 But she came and began to bow down before Him, saying, “Lord, help me!” …
28 Then Jesus said to her, “O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed at once.

  • bow down[4352]proskuneo = to kiss the hand towards one (meaning to kiss, like a dog licking his master’s hand), in token of reverence, prostrate oneself(or kneel) in homage – worship, adoration
  • healed[2390] = cure, made whole

*proskuneo = also captures the ideas from “Kiss the Son” in Psalm 2 and worship in Spirit and Truth!!!!

.
From NetBible Ps 2:11-12
11 Serve the LORD with reverence And rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son(Do homage to the Son), that He not become angry, and you perish in the way; For His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!

  • * The Hebrew verb translated “serve” refers here to submitting to the Lord’s sovereignty as expressed through the rule of the Davidic king. Such “service” would involve maintaining allegiance to the Davidic king by paying tribute on a regular basis.
  • * Kiss the Son = in trembling kiss His feet, pay homage in purity, pay homage in good faith
  • * The homage is to the Lord of Psalm 2:2 and to the Son of Psalm 2:7 — the Messiah King. Homage, kissing a King also implies humble submission.
  • kiss[05401] = HEBREW nashaq: kiss

.

From NetBible Jn 4:23-24
23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

  • worship[4352] = GREEK proskuneo: to kiss, like a dog licking his master’s hand
