Weeping and Sowing

January 1, 2019

.
Psalm 126:4-6 AMP
4 Restore our captivity, O Lord,
As the stream-beds in the South (the Negev) [are restored by torrents of rain].
5 They who sow in tears shall reap with joyful singing.
6 He who goes back and forth weeping, carrying his bag of seed [for planting], will indeed come again with a shout of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.

.
Why weeping? Why tears? Is sowing seeds always sad?

  • Weeping speaks of enduring and patience in the sowing, inspite of life’s circumstances.
    .
… weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. –Ps 30:5
    .
so let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. –Gal 6:9

.
What is the seed?

  • This is the meaning of the parable{The Parable of the Sower}: The seed is the word of God. –Lk 8:11
    .
As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11 so will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. –Is 55:10-11
    .
My teaching will fall on you like rain; my speech will settle like dew. My words will fall like rain on tender grass, like gentle showers on young plants. –Dt 32:2

.

It’s not the weeping that produces the reaping. It’s the process of patiently sowing the seed{Word} without giving up and trusting the Lord to bring the harvest{rain}, that produces the joy of reaping. This is what we need to remember when our tears tempt us to give up sowing!

.
Paul is a true example of this “ministry of tears”!
Acts 20:28-31 AMP
28 Take care and be on guard for yourselves and for the whole flock over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as overseers, to shepherd (tend, feed, guide) the church of God which He bought with His own blood. 29 I know that after I am gone, [false teachers like] ferocious wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; 30 even from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse and distorted things, to draw away the disciples after themselves [as their followers]. 31 Therefore be continually alert, remembering that for three years, night or day, I did not stop admonishing and advising each one [of you] with tears.

From NetBible Acts 20:31

  • admonish[3560] = warn, exhort, correct, reprove, instruct
