Our God is Greater

2 Chronicles 32:7-8 Amplified Bible (AMP)
7 “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be dismayed because of the king of Assyria, nor because of all the army that is with him; for the One with us is greater than the one with him. 8 With him there is only an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people relied on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

  1. Genesis 28:13-19
Surely the Lord is in this place, but I did not realize it!Gen 28:16

*From: Barnes’ Notes on the Bible – Gen 28:18Jacob knew God’s omnipresence; but he did not expect a special manifestation of the Lord in this place, far from the sanctuaries of his father. He is filled with solemn awe, when he finds himself in the house of God and at the gate of heaven. The pillar is the monument of the event. The pouring of oil upon it is an act of consecration to God who has there appeared to him Numbers 7:1. He calls the name of the place Bethel, “the house of God.” This is not the first time it received the name. Abraham also worshipped God here, and met with the name already existing (Genesis 12:8, 13:3).

    .
Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.Gen 28:15

1 Peter 1:6-8 NASB … In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, 7 so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 8 and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory …
.
Job 23:10-12 AMPC … But He knows the way that I take [He has concern for it, appreciates, and pays attention to it]. When He has tried me, I shall come forth as refined gold [pure and luminous].
11 My foot has held fast to His steps; His ways have I kept and not turned aside. 12 I have not gone back from the commandment of His lips; I have esteemed and treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.

Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness/loyal love in the morning, For in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, For I lift up my soul to You.

  • * Here “loyal love” probably stands for an oracle of assurance promising God’s intervention as an expression of his loyal love.
  • * The morning is sometimes viewed as the time of divine intervention ( Ps 30:5; 59:16; 90:14).
  • * To lift up your soul to the Lord means “to desire; to long for the Lord”

Strength to Fight

July 13, 2019

Psalm 18:31-34For who is God, except the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God? 32 It is God who arms me with strength, and makes my way perfect. 33 He makes my feet like the feet of deer, and sets me on my high places. 34 He teaches my hands to make war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
.

It is the Lord who arms with strength to fight –
He goes before to prepare the way
He will be with you
He does not leave you to fight the battle alone!

.
Deuteronomy 31:6,8 Amplified Bible (AMP)
6 Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble in dread before them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not fail you or abandon you. …
… 8 It is the Lord who goes before you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or abandon you. Do not fear or be dismayed.

.

God will have no strength used in his battles but the strength which he himself imparts. Are you mourning over your own weakness? Take courage, for there must be a consciousness of weakness before the Lord will give thee victory. Your emptiness is but the preparation for your being filled, and your casting down is but the making ready for your lifting up.

From Ps 68:19

  • Blessed be the Lord, Praise be to the Lord, to God our Saviour,
Who daily loads us with benefits, who daily bears our burdens, and carries us in His arms
The God of our salvation, who delivers us!
    Selah

.
From Commentary Ps 68:19

  • It is by God’s favour and might, and not by the sword, that deliverance from the enemies actually threatening the nation is to be expected.
    .
God who daily takes our burden for us, i.e., either the burden of trial or of sin. (Comp. a somewhat similar passage, Psalm 99:8, “thou art a God who liftest for us,” i.e., as Authorised Version, “forgivest us.”) But it is quite possible to render, if any put a burden on us, God is our help.

.
From Commentary Isa 46:4

  • The nurse – even the mother – soon grows tired of carrying the child, and leaves him to shift for himself. But God’s tender care for his people lasts from their infancy, through their boyhood and manhood, to their old age. The everlasting arms never weary. God’s watchfulness, his providence, his protection, never fail. I have made, and I will bear. The maker of a thing has naturally regard to what he has made, loves it, desires its good, seeks to defend and save it.

Isaiah 50:7 Because the Sovereign LORD helps me, I will not be dismayed. Therefore, I have set my face like a stone{flint}, determined to do his will. And I know that I will triumph.

From Commentary
For the Lord God will help me; rather, but the Lord God will help me. I shall not be left always in the hands of my enemies. In this confidence the Servant rests, and is not confounded, even when the worst happens to him. He sets his face like a flint; i.e. makes it hard, impassive, expressionless, and at the same time determined, fixed not to give way (comp. Ezekiel 3:8-9).
