Psalm 23:5 AMP … You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You have anointed and refreshed my head with oil; My cup overflows.

  • *Psalm 23:5 In ancient times it was customary in hot climates for a host to provide his guest with olive oil to put on his head. The Lord blesses and anoints His believers with the Holy Spirit, whom oil symbolizes, to prepare them for His service{battle}.

.
Isaiah 21:5 AMP … They set the table [for the doomed banquet], they spread out the cloth, they eat, they drink;

  • *Smearing{anointing} the shields with oil would make them more flexible and effective in battle

Answer to Samson’s Riddle  Judge 14:18:
“What is sweeter than honey? And what is stronger than a lion?”

The Lord’s words are sweeter than honey!
How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth! –Ps 119:103

The Spirit of the LORD’s empowerment is stronger than any lion
And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him(Samson), and he tore the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat, though he had nothing in his hand. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done. –Jdg 14:6

Abide in His Love

February 28, 2020

.
1 John 4:16 Amplified Bible (AMP)
16 We have come to know [by personal observation and experience], and have believed [with deep, consistent faith] the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides continually in him.
.
Know and abide in God’s love
On His love rely –1Jn 4:16
The Lord’s love NEVER fails –1Cor 13:8
Never comes to an end! –1Cor 13:13
Abide in His love
=>Your joy will be made full and complete! –Jn 15:9-11
.
1 Corinthians 13:8, 13 Amplified Bible (AMP)
8 Love never fails [it never fades nor ends]. But as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for the gift of special knowledge, it will pass away. …
… 13 And now there remain{abide}: faith [abiding trust in God and His promises], hope [confident expectation of eternal salvation], love [unselfish love for others growing out of God’s love for me], these three [the choicest graces]; but the greatest of these is love.

.
John 15:9-11 Amplified Bible (AMP)
9 I have loved you just as the Father has loved Me; remain{abide} in My love [and do not doubt My love for you]. 10 If you keep My commandments and obey My teaching, you will remain{abide} in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain{abide} in His love. 11 I have told you these things so that My joy and delight may be in you, and that your joy may be made full and complete and overflowing.

Ebenezer

May 1, 2018

.
.

1 Samuel 7:12Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the LORD has helped us.”

From NetBible 1Sam 7:12

  • * Ebenezer (אֶבֶן הָעָזֶר) means “stone of help” in Hebrew
=> a memorial stone[072] erected by Samuel to mark where God helped Israel to defeat the Philistines – north of Jerusalem

.
Ebenezer – “Stone of Help”, a memorial stone. Seeing this stone would remind the people to remember how the Lord helped them in the past and encourage them to trust the Lord’s faithfulness in the future.
.
It is good to remember those special Ebenezer times in our own lives, when the Lord has helped us in a special way. You can trust the Lord’s faithfulness!
.
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful[and utterly trustworthy] and He will do it.

Word Study – God of Amen = Faithful and True!
.
The God of the Amen is an OT title:
Isaiah 65:16 AMPC … So [it shall be] that he who invokes a blessing on himself in the land shall do so by saying, May the God of truth and fidelity [the Amen] bless me; and he who takes an oath in the land shall swear by the God of truth and faithfulness to His promises [the Amen], because the former troubles are forgotten and because they are hidden from My eyes.

From NetBible Isa 65:16

  • Amen[0543] = So be it, truth – name of the faithful

.
In the NT Jesus often introduces statements with
“Verily, verily, I say unto you”[281] = Amen{Hebrew for [0543]}
In doing so, He identified Himself with the God of the Amen
And revealed Himself as the One through whom all of God’s promises are fulfilled.
.
Revelation 3:14 AMPC … And to the angel (messenger) of the assembly (church) in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the trusty and faithful and true Witness, the Origin and Beginning and Author of God’s creation:
.
2 Corinthians 1:20 AMPC … For as many as are the promises of God, they all find their Yes (answer) in Him (Christ). For this reason we also utter the Amen (so be it) to God through Him [in His Person and by His agency] to the glory of God.

ENDURE to the End!

The Race Is NOT to the Swift or Strong
But to those who ENDURE to the End!

Shortly after I came across this pic and was encouraged!

The only way to “finish strong” is to keep
Christ’s mercy in view Ro 12:1
.
With eyes on Christ and His mercy
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayerRo 12:12
He’s faithful to see you through
With strength to press on & “finish strong”
.

Feed My Sheep

September 19, 2017

.
John 21:15-17 AMPC
15 When they had eaten, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these [others do—with reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion, as one loves the Father]? He said to Him, Yes, Lord, You know that I love You [that I have deep, instinctive, personal affection for You, as for a close friend]. He said to him, Feed My lambs.
16 Again He said to him the second time, Simon, son of John, do you love Me [with reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion, as one loves the Father]? He said to Him, Yes, Lord, You know that I love You [that I have a deep, instinctive, personal affection for You, as for a close friend]. He said to him, Shepherd (tend) My sheep.
17 He said to him the third time, Simon, son of John, do you love Me [with a deep, instinctive, personal affection for Me, as for a close friend]? Peter was grieved (was saddened and hurt) that He should ask him the third time, Do you love Me? And he said to Him, Lord, You know everything; You know that I love You [that I have a deep, instinctive, personal affection for You, as for a close friend]. Jesus said to him, Feed My sheep.

.
Notice how this passage is about both lambs and sheep being fed. The word for feed[1006]bosko in v15 & 17 is the same, implying lambs(immature sheep) and sheep need to be fed similar food. The word for feed[4165]poimaino in v16 is a little different, adding the idea that sheep need to be governed by a shepherd. …

Interesting how preaching the kingdom, the whole counsel of God, the undistorted truth and feeding/shepherding the flock is related in Acts 20. …

.
Acts 20:25-31Now I[Paul] know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will ever see me again. 26 Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of any of you. 27 For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will(counsel) of God. 28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of/feed[4165]poimaino  the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. 29 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. 30 Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. 31 So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.
.
Trust in the LORD and do good(what is right)
Feed on His faithfulness = Truth
Ps 37:3
His word is TruthJn 17:17
Seed for the sower
Bread for the eater
Undistorted Truth = Protection from savage wolves
His word sent forth will not return void!

.
Psalm 37:3 AMPC … Trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) in the Lord and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on His faithfulness, and truly you shall be fed.
.
Isaiah 55:10-11For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; 11 So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.
