Song 4:6Until the day breaks and the shadows flee away, I will go my way to the mountain of myrrh and to the hill of frankincense.

The hill of frankincense is Calvary, where, “through the eternal Spirit He offered Himself”{a fragrant offering –Eph 5:2}; the mountain of myrrh is His embalmment & burial in the garden(Jn 19:39-42) till the resurrection “daybreak.” (*from Jameison-Fausset-Brown)

a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil{usually made from myrrh}, and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table . -Mt 26:7

Many commentaries think the mountain of myrrh – Heb mor, points to Mt Moriah- the place of myrrh(referring to the spices burnt as incense) where the temple was built(2 Chr 3:1) and where Abraham offered up his son Isaac, foreshadowing Christ’s sacrifice. (Matthew Henry, Wikipedia) Abraham called this place ‘The LORD Will Provide’. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided{seen}” (Gen 22:2,14).

.
From NetBible Ps 98:1

  • * A new song is appropriate because the Lord is constantly intervening in the world as its just king
  • * “his right hand and his holy arm deliver victory for Him ”
=>The right hand and arm symbolize his power as a warrior-king (see Isa 52:10). His arm is “holy” in the sense that it is in a category of its own; God’s power is incomparable.

.
From NetBible Isa 52:10

  • The Lord has bared His holy arm{reveals His royal power} in the sight of all the nations; That all the ends of the earth may see the salvation{deliverance} of our God.

Father- Glorify Your Name

November 1, 2017

Isaiah 26:8Yes, LORD, walking in the way of Your laws{your judgements}, we wait for You; Your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.

Isaiah 26:8 NLT … LORD, we love to obey your laws; our heart’s desire is to glorify your name.
.

Our heart’s desire, O Lord, is to glorify Your Holy name!

Help us to praise Your name, O Lord, and tell of
… Your mighty deeds.
Is 12:4

.

.
Isaiah 12:4 NLT … In that wonderful day you will sing: “Thank the LORD! Praise His name! Tell the world what He has done. Oh, how mighty He is!
.
John 12:28 … [Jesus says]“Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came out of heaven: “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.”
.

Study
.
From Jn 12:28

  • Barnes’ Notes on the Bible:
Glorify thy name – The meaning of this expression in this connection is this: “I am willing to bear any trials; I will not shrink from any sufferings. Let thy name be honored. Let thy character, wisdom, goodness, and plans of mercy be manifested and promoted, whatever sufferings it may cost me.” Thus Jesus showed us that God’s glory is to be the great end of our conduct, and that we are to seek that, whatever sufferings it may cost us.

Word Study – God of Amen = Faithful and True!
.
The God of the Amen is an OT title:
Isaiah 65:16 AMPC … So [it shall be] that he who invokes a blessing on himself in the land shall do so by saying, May the God of truth and fidelity [the Amen] bless me; and he who takes an oath in the land shall swear by the God of truth and faithfulness to His promises [the Amen], because the former troubles are forgotten and because they are hidden from My eyes.

From NetBible Isa 65:16

  • Amen[0543] = So be it, truth – name of the faithful

.
In the NT Jesus often introduces statements with
“Verily, verily, I say unto you”[281] = Amen{Hebrew for [0543]}
In doing so, He identified Himself with the God of the Amen
And revealed Himself as the One through whom all of God’s promises are fulfilled.
.
Revelation 3:14 AMPC … And to the angel (messenger) of the assembly (church) in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the trusty and faithful and true Witness, the Origin and Beginning and Author of God’s creation:
.
2 Corinthians 1:20 AMPC … For as many as are the promises of God, they all find their Yes (answer) in Him (Christ). For this reason we also utter the Amen (so be it) to God through Him [in His Person and by His agency] to the glory of God.

Keep Alert with Prayer and Praise!

October 1, 2017

Colossians 4:2Be devoted to prayer, keeping alert in it with grateful praise.
.
Remember Paul and Silas? Ever wonder why they were praying and singing near midnight(Acts 16:23-26)? After a long day, being beaten and thrown in prison why would they do this? Consider Psalm 119 – they knew this psalm.

Psalm 119:60-62 I made haste, and did not delay to keep Your commandments. Though the wicked bind me with ropes, I will not forget your law. At midnight I will rise to give thanks to You, because of Your righteous judgments.

The word for give thanks is yadah[03034] and it means to give thanks, laud, praise, worship, to confess the name of God with extended hands. Praying and singing near midnight was a way to keep alert and declare their faith{the other prisoners were listening to them}.

The word for grace, charis[5485] ,  is also the word for thanks. Look at the connection between this word, thankfulness, singing and letting the peace of God rule!!!!!!!!

Colossians 3:15-17 … And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful[2170] . Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace[5485] in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks[2168] to God the Father through Him.

Paul and Silas wholeheartedly singing songs of praise and giving thanks at midnight was a way of inviting the Lord into their situation. It was a way to acknowledge the Lord and declare their faith, for  the other prisoners were listening. It helped them rise up despite their difficult circumstances; to expectantly wait, keep alert in prayer and watch for the Lord to act. Notice that this also let the peace of God rule in their hearts.

Is it any surprise then, that this watchful grace-full thanksgiving is God’s will for His body?

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 … Rejoice[5463] always; pray without ceasing; In everything give thanks[2168]; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
