Faith Testing

July 20, 2017

Proverbs 17:3 NET … The crucible is for refining silver and the furnace is for gold, likewise the Lord tests hearts.

Faith testing
Allows your patient endurance to grow
Ja 1:3
Producing proven character and hope!Ro 5:3-4

Tested proven faith is of greater worth
… than gold refined in the fire! 1Pe 1:7

The purifier sits before the crucible(Mal 3:3), fixing his eye on the metal, and taking care that the fire be not too hot, and keeping the metal in, only until he knows the dross to be completely removed by his seeing his own image reflected (Ro 8:29) in the glowing mass. So the Lord in the case of His elect (Job 23:10; Ps 66:10; Pr 17:3; Isa 48:10; Heb 12:10; 1Pe 1:7)

Hebrews 10:35-37 NLT …  So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord, no matter what happens. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that He has promised. For in just a little while, the Coming One will come and not delay.

Vanity of Pleasure and Treasure

July 7, 2017

Ecclesiastes 2:1,11 I thought in my heart, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure to find out what is good.” But that also proved to be vanity/meaningless/futile. …
… But as I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish(treasure), it was all so meaningless. It was like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere under the sun.

Tabernacle(s) and Mansion(s)

July 6, 2017

John 14:1-6“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

From NetBible Jn 14:2

  • many mansions[3438] = a staying/permanent, abiding, dwelling, abode *from Greek[3306] = residence
    * Jn 15:4 Abide[3306] in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. => It’s interesting to note the strongs word for abide in the above Jn 15 scripture is the verb form of the words for “many mansions” found in Jn 14.
  • * Jesus is going ahead of believers to prepare a place for them, a permanent dwelling place in the Father’s house

Notice that these mansions are plural – more than one. And they are permanent! This scripture looks ahead to the eternal place where Jesus will receive each of His children – the heavenly tabernacle – the New Jerusalem.

Revelation 21:22But I saw no temple in it(the New Jerusalem), for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our physical body(temple) is perishing, yet the inward person is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Psalm 84:1 How lovely are Your dwelling places(tabernacles), O LORD of hosts!

OT tabernacles(on earth) –Ps 84:1
Jesus a temple(on earth & resurrected in heaven) –Jn 2:19-21
Jesus the Word made flesh(tabernacle on earth) –Jn 1:14
God’s children(temples) –1 Cor 3:16
God’s children(temples on earth awaiting the eternal) –2 Cor 4:16
New Jerusalem tabernacle(eternal spiritual in heaven) –Rev 21:1-5, 22
The Lord Almighty & the Lamb(eternal spiritual temple of New Jerusalem) –Rev 21:22
Many Mansions(spiritual eternal in heaven) –Jn 14:2

How Lovely – The Dwelling Places of the Lord

July 5, 2017

Psalm 84:1 How lovely are Your dwelling places(tabernacles), O LORD of hosts!

From NetBible Ps 84:1

  • * The psalmist expresses his desire to be in God’s presence in the Jerusalem temple, for the Lord is the protector of his people.
  • dwelling places[04908] = tabernacles, habitation, a residence (including a shepherd’s hut)

Interesting that these dwelling places, tabernacles of the Lord are plural – more than one. These dwelling places seem to be on earth, like the temple in Jerusalem.

John 1:14  … And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

From NetBible Jn 1:14

  • dwelt[4637] = to fix one’s tabernacle, have one’s tabernacle, abide (or live) in
    a tabernacle (or tent)
  • The verb used here may imply that the Shekinah glory that once was found in the OT tabernacle has taken up residence in the person of Jesus.

Interesting how Jesus becoming flesh and dwelling among us is related to the tabernacle; His body a dwelling place, a tabernacle.

Our christian bodies are temple(s) where the Spirit of God dwells. Jesus used this same word temple, when He spoke of destroying it and raising it up in three days – it has a double meaning. Jesus was referring to the temple of His body, but it also applied to the OT temple/tabernacle. Interesting that it is also used to describe the future new Jerusalem – the final city of God where the whole body of Christ is joined to dwell. The Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple!

1 Corinthians 3:16Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

John 2:19-21Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. 20 The Jews then said, “It took forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days? 21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body.

Revelation 21:1-5, 22 … Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea.2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle[4633] of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them,4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” 5 And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He *said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” …
… 22 I saw no temple[3485] in it, for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.

From NetBible Rev 21:3

  • tabernacle[4633] = tent, tabernacle, (made of green boughs, or skins or other materials)
    * of that well known movable temple of God after the pattern of which the OT temple at Jerusalem was built

From NetBible 1Cor 3:16, Jn 2:21 , Rev 21:22

  • temple[3485] = used of the temple at Jerusalem, but only of the sacred edifice (or sanctuary) itself, consisting of the Holy place and the Holy of Holies
    * Also a metaphor for the spiritual temple consisting of the saints of all ages joined together by and in Christ

Cornerstone: Broken or Crushed

Jeremiah 23:28-29 AMPC … The prophet who has a dream, let him tell his dream; but he who has My word, let him speak My word faithfully. What has straw(chaff) in common with wheat [for nourishment]? says the Lord.

Matthew 21:42-44 AMPC … Jesus asked them, Have you never read in the Scriptures: The very Stone which the builders rejected and threw away has become the Cornerstone; this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes? 43 I tell you, for this reason the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce the fruits of it. 44 And whoever falls on this Stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom It falls will be crushed to powder [and It will winnow him, scattering him like dust].
