Biblical Insight – Ponder the WORD

September 30, 2020

From: OurDailyBread

  • Biblical insight comes from meditating on Scripture, not just reading it.
  • View Scripture from different angles-go deep.
Oh, God, give us eyes to see!
  • Christ’s parables work this way. Those who care enough to ponder them gain “eyes to see” their meaning (Matthew 13:10–16). Paul told Timothy to “reflect” on his words so God would give him insight (2Timothy 2:7). And the repeated refrain of Psalm 119 is how meditating on Scripture brings wisdom and insight, opening our eyes to see its meaning (Psalm 119:18, 97-99).

In Psalm 119:97–104, the word meditate is used twice (vv. 97, 99). English translations of the Hebrew root word include talk, pray, speak, complain, and meditate. What’s in view when this word is translated “meditate” or “meditation” is “talking to oneself,” with God’s Word being the subject of the conversation (see Psalm 119:15, 23, 48, 78, 148). We see the idea of ruminating over and pondering on the Scriptures in our hearts and minds in the following verses as well: “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night” (Joshua 1:8). “Blessed is the one . . . whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on His law day and night” (Psalm 1:1–2).

Heart Ties

March 6, 2016

John 15:4-5 AMPC … Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you. [Live in Me, and I will live in you.] Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (being vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me. 5 I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.

Tie my heart to Yours Lord
Live in me and I will live in You

In You let me always abide.

Tie my heart to Yours Lord
Vitally united to the Vine

For I am Yours and You are mine.

Be Transformed

Colossians 2:20 AMP
20 If then you have died with Christ to material ways of looking at things and have escaped from the world’s crude and elemental notions and teachings of externalism, why do you live as if you still belong to the world? [Why do you submit to rules and regulations?—such as]

Romans 12:2 AMP
2 Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].

Do not be conformed to this world
But be transformed
Renew your mind in Christ
Submit to His rule
CONTINUE to walk in union with and conformity to Him
=> that you may prove what is good, acceptable and
Pleasing in His sight for you!

Colossians 2:6-7 AMP
6 As you have therefore received Christ, [even] Jesus the Lord, [so] walk (regulate your lives and conduct yourselves) in union with and conformity to Him.
7 Have the roots [of your being] firmly and deeply planted [in Him, fixed and founded in Him], being continually built up in Him, becoming increasingly more confirmed and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and abounding and overflowing in it with thanksgiving.

From NetBible Col 2:6

  • walk[4043] = continue to live in obedience to, to make progress/grow in

From NetBible Col 2:7

  • rooted[4492] = to strengthen with roots, to render firm,
to fix, establish, cause a person or a thing to be thoroughly grounded
  • built up[2026] = To finish the structure of which the foundation{Christ} has already been laid, to give constant increase in knowledge and in a life conformed to Christ
  • established[950] = to make firm, sure, strong
  • overflow[4052] = abound, be in excess
*abounding is used of a flower going from a bud to full bloom.
  • thankfulness[2169] = gratitude, actively grateful

Colossians 2:6-7 NLT
6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to live in obedience to Him.
7 Let your roots grow down into Him and draw up nourishment from Him, so you will grow in faith, strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with thanksgiving for all He has done.

Christ is Risen Indeed

March 23, 2015

Luke 24:6 NKJV
6 He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee …

Mark 16:6 NKJV
6 But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.

Luke 24:32-36 NKJV
32 And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” 33 So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, 34 saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” 35 And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread.

Jesus Appears to His Disciples
36 Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace to you.”

After it’s proclaimed Christ is risen indeed, Jesus appears in their midst and says “Peace to you” …

How amazing is that!

Isaiah 53:4-5 NKJV
4 Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.

Psalm 42:1-5 NKJV
1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? 3 My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say to me, “Where is your God?” 4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul within me. For I used to go with the multitude; I went with them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, With a multitude that kept a pilgrim feast. 5 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance.

What do you long for? How vital is the Lord’s presence to you individually /corporately?

What would happen if Jesus appeared in a visible tangible way, in your midst, during your gatherings. What impact would His presence have?

Without His presence isn’t singing is just singing, preaching and teaching mere words, and everything else just another meeting?

Take another look at the above scripture. David had a passion in his heart for the presence of the living God. He compared this passion to a deer panting for water brooks. Think about this for a moment.

The deer needs the water to have life. The deer also needs to continually return to the water brook to drink. One drink is not enough to sustain life. The deer’s very life depends upon it’s ability to continually drink.

Also look at where David places all of his hope(v5) => in the help of the Lord’s countenance. Isn’t this another way of saying all of his hope was in the saving acts of the Lord’s tangible presence /intervention?

Check your heart today – where is your passion? How hard are you seeking the Lord’s tangible presence /intervention? Individually /corporately? How much of your hope is placed in the Lord’s tangible presence /intervention?

Deuteronomy 4:29 AMP
29 But if from there you will seek (inquire for and require as necessity) the Lord your God, you will find Him if you [truly] seek Him with all your heart [and mind] and soul and life.

2 Chronicles 16:9 NIV
9 For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. …

Consider Psalm 42:1-5 => What do you long for? How vital is the Lord’s presence to you individually/corporately?

Marvelous Glorious Light

March 5, 2015

1 Peter 2:7-9 AMP
7 To you then who believe (who adhere to, trust in, and rely on Him) is the preciousness; but for those who disbelieve [it is true], The [very] Stone which the builders rejected has become the main Cornerstone,
8 And, A Stone that will cause stumbling and a Rock that will give [men] offense; they stumble because they disobey and disbelieve [God’s] Word, as those [who reject Him] were destined (appointed) to do.
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God’s] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

Pleasing in Your Sight

February 25, 2015

Colossians 1:9-10 AMP
9 For this reason we also, from the day we heard of it, have not ceased to pray and make [special] request for you, [asking] that you may be filled with the full (deep and clear) knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom [in comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God] and in understanding and discernment of spiritual things—

10 That you may walk (live and conduct yourselves) in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him and desiring to please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing and increasing in and by the knowledge of God [with fuller, deeper, and clearer insight, acquaintance, and recognition].

A Song:
I long to be pleasing in Your sight
Pleasing in Your sight
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer

I long to be pleasing in Your sight
Held as the apple of Your eye
Safe and secure
Beneath Your mighty wings –Ps 17:8
I long to sing –Ps 63:7-8
Pleasing in Your sight
Pleasing in Your sight
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer

I long to be pleasing in Your sight
Pleasing in Your sight
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Song of Solomon 2:14 AMP

Psalm 19:14 AMP
14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my [firm, impenetrable] Rock and my Redeemer.

Never Alone

February 23, 2015

Deuteronomy 31:8 AMP
8 It is the Lord Who goes before you; He will [march] with you; He will not fail you or let you go or forsake you; [let there be no cowardice or flinching, but] fear not, neither become broken [in spirit—depressed, dismayed, and unnerved with alarm].

When darkness seems to surround
And courage seems to flee
Remember who is with you
And promised never to leave.

Remember, when you have Jesus, you are never left alone!

Hebrews 13:5 AMP
5 … for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]
