The Wonders of His Love!

December 29, 2017

Psalm 136:3-4 AMPC … O give thanks to the Lord of lords, for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever—
4 To Him Who alone does great wonders, for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever.

Lord, restore to me the wonder of Christmas,
felt most keenly when I first met Jesus;
for I long to tell the story with all the
joy it brought me that day. -OurDailyBread

Word Study
From NetBible Phil 4:19

  • supply[4137] = to make full, to fill up, to cause to abound

From BibleHub Phil 4:19

  • according to his riches—The measure of His supply to you will be the immeasurable “riches of His grace” (Eph 1:7).
  • in glory—These words belong to the whole sentence. “Glory” is the element in which His rich grace operates; and it will be the element IN which He will “supply fully all your need.”
  • by Christ Jesus—by virtue of your being “IN” (so Greek, not “by”) Christ Jesus, the Giver and Mediator of all spiritual blessings.

Father- Glorify Your Name

November 1, 2017

Isaiah 26:8Yes, LORD, walking in the way of Your laws{your judgements}, we wait for You; Your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.

Isaiah 26:8 NLT … LORD, we love to obey your laws; our heart’s desire is to glorify your name.

Our heart’s desire, O Lord, is to glorify Your Holy name!

Help us to praise Your name, O Lord, and tell of
… Your mighty deeds.
Is 12:4

Isaiah 12:4 NLT … In that wonderful day you will sing: “Thank the LORD! Praise His name! Tell the world what He has done. Oh, how mighty He is!
John 12:28 … [Jesus says]“Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came out of heaven: “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.”

From Jn 12:28

  • Barnes’ Notes on the Bible:
Glorify thy name – The meaning of this expression in this connection is this: “I am willing to bear any trials; I will not shrink from any sufferings. Let thy name be honored. Let thy character, wisdom, goodness, and plans of mercy be manifested and promoted, whatever sufferings it may cost me.” Thus Jesus showed us that God’s glory is to be the great end of our conduct, and that we are to seek that, whatever sufferings it may cost us.

Prayer in Secret = Rewarded in Open

July 16, 2017

Matthew 6:1, 5-6 AMPC
1 Take care not to do your good deeds publicly or before men, in order to be seen by them; otherwise you will have no reward [reserved for and awaiting you] with and from your Father Who is in heaven. …
… 5 Also when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by people. Truly I tell you, they have their reward in full already.
6 But when you pray, go into your [most] private room, and, closing the door, pray to your Father, Who is in secret; and your Father, Who sees in secret, will reward you in the open.

Galatians 1:10
10 Am I now trying to win the approval of people, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

From NetBible Gal 1:10

  • *For a Jew this concept of being a servant or slave to Christ did not connote drudgery, but honor and privilege.

Lord, thank You for the privilege of being Christ’s servant. May my prayers be pleasing in Your sight. May they rise to You like incense; a fragrant offering through my Lord Jesus Christ. –Ps 19:14, 141:2

The Shepherd

June 19, 2017

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. –Ps 23:1

Jesus the good shepherd lays down His life for His sheep

[Jesus]I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, 15 even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep –Jn 10:14-15

Jesus is the great Shepherd raised from the dead who equips through the blood right now

Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord, 21 equip you in every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen. –He 13:20-21

Jesus the Chief Shepherd will return and His sheep will receive the unfading crown of glory

Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed, 2 shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; 3 nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock. 4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. –1Pe 5:1-4

Lord, save Your people and bless Your heritage; nourish and shepherd them; Carry them in your arms forever. –Ps 28:9

Jewish Hours of Prayer and Jesus Crucified

May 25, 2017

The regular Jewish hours of prayer were three in number – morning, noon, evening.(12 hours) –Dan 6:10;Ps 55:17

Jesus fulfills the daily offering – one lamb offered for the morning sacrifice and one offered for the evening sacrifice.

Numbers 28:3-8 … You shall say to them, ‘This is the offering by fire which you shall offer to the Lord: two male lambs one year old without defect as a continual burnt offering every day. 4 You shall offer the one lamb in the morning and the other lamb you shall offer at twilight; 5 also a tenth of an ephah of fine flour for a grain offering, mixed with a fourth of a hin of beaten oil. 6 It is a continual burnt offering which was ordained in Mount Sinai as a soothing aroma, an offering by fire to the Lord. 7 Then the drink offering with it shall be a fourth of a hin for each lamb, in the holy place you shall pour out a drink offering of strong drink to the Lord. 8 The other lamb you shall offer at twilight; as the grain offering of the morning and as its drink offering, you shall offer it, an offering by fire, a soothing aroma to the Lord.
*twilight = between the two evenings(9th hour)

Jesus fulfills the Passover sacrifice. –1 Cor 5:7-8;1Pe 1:18-19
Jesus died on the fourteenth day of the first month—at the ninth hour.
Mt 27:45-50; Mk 15:33-37; Lk 23:44-46

Exodus 12:5-6The Passover Lamb … 5 Your lamb shall be an unblemished male a year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats. 6 You shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month, then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel is to kill it at twilight.
*twilight = between the two evenings(9th hour)

The Lord’s Supper is linked with preparation of the Passover Lamb. The Last Supper => the “New Covenant” made (Jer 31:31). The lamb abolished, bread and wine substituted.Mt 26:20-29;Mk 14:17-25;Lk 22:14-23

From NetBible: Hours Of Prayer

The regular hours of prayer were three in number, as we may infer from Ps 55:17;Dan 6:10. The first coincided with the morning sacrifice, at the 3rd hour of the morning, at 9 AM therefore (Acts 2:15). The second was at the 6th hour, or at noon, and may have coincided with the thanksgiving for the chief meal of the day, a religious custom apparently universally observed (Mt 15:36; Acts 27:35). The 3rd hour of prayer coincided with the evening sacrifice, at the ninth hour (Acts 3:1, 10:30).
