From OurDailyBread
The prophet Isaiah’s name means “Salvation is of the Lord,” which summarizes his emphasis in the book on prophecies about Christ. Isaiah also portrays God as the God of comfort. We see this theme particularly throughout the later chapters of Isaiah (chs. 40–66). In today’s passage (49:14–19), we see God’s assurance that He won’t forget or abandon His people (Israel and the church). In 43:1–2, God says He walks with us through our trials and gives us this assurance: “I have summoned you by name; you are mine.” In 44:21–24, God declares, “I will not forget you” and reminds us He “formed [us] in the womb.” In 46:4-5, He promises, “Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you.” And finally, in 66:13-14, He assures us, “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.”

Boast – Glory in the Lord Alone!

August 15, 2020

Jeremiah 9:24 NLT … But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the LORD who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, and that I delight in these things.
I, the LORD, have spoken!

Let the one who boasts
Boast – Glory in the Lord alone! –1Cor 1:31;2Cor 10:17

For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved
But the one whom the Lord commends. –2Corinthians 10:18

  • delight[02654] = take pleasure in, desire, be pleased with
He has made clear to you, O man, what is good; and what is desired[02654] from you by the Lord: To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. –Micah 6:8
  • * The Lord delights in demonstrating unfailing love, justice and righteousness to the earth=> He also delights/desires these characteristics in people see Hos 6:6; Mic 6:8.

.
From NetBible 1Cor 1:31;2Cor 10:17

  • * From Jer 9:24. The themes of Jer 9 have influenced Paul’s presentation in vv. The themes of 26-31. Jeremiah calls upon the wise, the strong, and the wealthy not to trust in their resources but in their knowledge of the true God – and so to boast in the Lord. Paul addresses the same three areas of human pride.

  • Ellicott’s Commentary
Let him that glorieth glory in this . . .–The passage is interesting as having clearly been present to the mind of St. Paul in writing 1Corinthians 1:31; 2Corinthians 10:17. He had learnt from it to estimate the wisdom and the greatness on which the Corinthians prided themselves at their true value. We may find a parallel even in the higher words which teach us that “eternal life is to know God” (John 17:3), to understand those attributes, love, judgment, righteousness, which we associate with our thoughts of Him, as indeed they are in their infinite perfection, and which when we know them as we ought to know, we must needs strive to reproduce.

.
From NetBible 2Corinthians 10:18

  • approved[1384] = proven genuine, tried, accepted, pleasing
    * some money changers were men of integrity, who
would accept no counterfeit money. They were men of honour who put
only genuine full weighted money into circulation. Such men were
    called “dokimos” or “approved”.

.
From NetBible Psalm 34:2-3
Let my soul boast in the LORD; let all who are humble{oppressed-afflicted-discouraged-poor in spirit} take heart and rejoice.
Oh, magnify{glorify-give praise to} the LORD {tell of the LORD’s greatness} with me, and let us exalt His name together!

Protection from Deception=Preach His Word

2Corinthians 11:2-4 NLT … For I am jealous for you with the jealousy of God himself. I promised you as a pure bride to one husband—Christ. 3 But I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be corrupted, just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent. 4 You happily put up with whatever anyone tells you, even if they preach a different Jesus than the one we preach, or a different kind of Spirit than the one you received, or a different kind of gospel than the one you believed.

Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. 29 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. 30 Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. 31 So be on your guard!
