Seek and Draw Close

February 18, 2019

Isaiah 30:20-21Though the Lord gives you “the bread of adversity” and “the water of affliction”, He, your Teacher will no longer hide Himself, but your eyes will behold your Teacher. 21 Your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left.

Hosea 6:3 … So let us know, let us press on to know the Lord. His going forth is as certain as the dawn; And He will come to us like the rain, like the spring rain[03384] watering the earth.

  • rain watering/teach[03384] = to shoot arrows, to throw water, rain, to flow as water, to instruct, to point out (as if by aiming the finger)

Isaiah 30:20 Commentary = some interpret teacher as the same word as rain, because doctrine from the mouth of a teacher drops like rain upon the tender herb, and as showers on the grass –Dt 32:2

Song 4:6Until the day breaks and the shadows flee away, I will go my way to the mountain of myrrh and to the hill of frankincense.

  • The hill of frankincense is Calvary, where, “through the eternal Spirit He offered Himself”{a fragrant offering –Eph 5:2}; the mountain of myrrh is His embalmment & burial in the garden(Jn 19:39-42) till the resurrection “daybreak.” (*from Jameison-Fausset-Brown)a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil{usually made from myrrh}, and she poured it on His head as He sat at the table . -Mt 26:7Many commentaries think the mountain of myrrh – Heb mor, points to Mt Moriah- the place of myrrh(referring to the spices burnt as incense) where the temple was built(2 Chr 3:1) and where Abraham offered up his son Isaac, foreshadowing Christ’s sacrifice. (Matthew Henry, Wikipedia) Abraham called this place ‘The LORD Will Provide’. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided{seen}” (Gen 22:2,14).

Genesis 22:14And Abraham called the name of the place, The–LORD–Will–Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of The LORD it shall be provided.”

  • From NetBible Gen 22:14
    The–LORD–Will–Provide[03070] = Jehovah-jireh = “Jehovah sees”
    *from [03068] and [07200]; Jehovah will see (to it) => the Lord sees and provides for the necessities of His servants
    * a symbolical name for Mount Moriah => Here Solomon’s temple was built, on the spot that had been the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite (2 Sam. 24:24, 252 Chr. 3:1
    =>”Mount Moriah” of the Chronicles is identical with the “mountain” in “the land of Moriah” of Genesis, and that the spot on which Jehovah appeared to David, and on which the temple was built, was the very spot of the sacrifice of Isaac.
    => now covered by “Dome of the Rock”
  • provided[07200] = seen, looked at, perceived, have vision

A song:
Sweet, sweet Holy Spirit
Sweet Spirit of life
Jesus I need You
Breathe on me
Breathe on me once again  –Job 33:4
Refresh, revive, restore –Ps 85:6
Fan into flame –2Tim 1:6
Oh how sweet the fragrance of Christ –2Cor 2:14-16
My strength my beautiful song! –Is 12:2
“He will not break the bruised reed, nor quench the smoking flax.” Doth not that suit thy case? A reed, helpless, insignificant, and weak, a bruised reed, out of which no music can come; weaker than weakness itself; a reed, and that reed bruised, yet, He will not break thee; but on the contrary, will restore and strengthen thee. Thou art like the smoking flax: no light, no warmth, can come from thee; but He will not quench thee; He will blow with His sweet breath of mercy till He fans thee to a flame”. -Spurgeon
Psalm 150:6 AMP
6 Let everything that has breath and every breath of life praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!)

Face Discouragement – Be Bold!

February 2, 2019

Deuteronomy 31:8The LORD Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
Discouraged? Afraid? Terrified? Broken? Shattered?
These feelings come from the spirit of fear and intimidation who wants you to remain silent and give up!
The antidote = confidence and trust in the Lord. Proclaim it!
Lord Jesus I am confident of this:
You began a good work in me and
You are faithful to complete it!
Phil 1:6
You have not given me a spirit of fear
But of power and of love and of a sound mind.2Tim 1:7
I refuse to be intimidated or discouraged Phil 1:28
Instead I will speak Your word boldly without fearPhil 1:14
For You go before me and are with me
You, the Lord Jesus Christ are able to keep me
And enable me to stand firm!
Jude 1:24
To the only God our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord
Be glory, majesty, dominion and authority
Before all time and now and forever. Amen.
Jude 1:25

  • bold[5111] = not to dread or shun through fear

From NetBible Phil 1:28
in no way be intimidated by your opponents—which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God.

  • intimidated[4426] = terrified, frightened, alarmed

Now to the one who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to cause you to stand, rejoicing, without blemish before His glorious presence …

Philippians 1:6 AMP
6 I am convinced and confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will [continue to] perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus [the time of His return].
2 Timothy 1:7 AMP
7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].
Philippians 1:27-28 AMP
27 Only [be sure to] lead your lives in a manner [that will be] worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I do come and see you or remain absent, I will hear about you that you are standing firm in one spirit [and one purpose], with one mind striving side by side [as if in combat] for the faith of the gospel. 28 And in no way be alarmed or intimidated [in anything] by your opponents, for such [constancy and fearlessness on your part] is a [clear] sign [a proof and a seal] for them of [their impending] destruction, but [a clear sign] for you of deliverance and salvation, and that too, from God.
Jude 1:24-25 AMP
24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling or falling into sin, and to present you unblemished [blameless and faultless-cause you to stand] in the presence of His glory with triumphant joy and unspeakable delight, 25 to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and power, before all time and now and forever. Amen.

Rest in Jesus

January 14, 2019

Matthew 11:28-30Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
Two kinds of rest

  1. Simply “Come” to Jesus
    Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. –Heb 4:14-16
  2. Be “yoked”/walk and learn from Jesus
    * As we walk we, also walk together with others –Gal 6:2
    * Walk and live as children of the Light –Eph 5:6-11

What “steals” rest?

  1. Fear, doubt => not trusting the Lord {Trust/rely on Him alone –Pro 3:5-7}
  2. Not dwelling/abiding feeding on the Lord’s faithfulness/truth {Abide in Jesus and His Word –Jn 15:4-7}
  3. Not delighting/surrendering all to the Lord {Surrender petitions with prayer and thanksgiving –Phil 4:4-9}
  4. Not totally committing our plans to the Lord {Don’t trust in your own strength –Zec 4:6;Ps 20:7}
  5. Not waiting patiently for the Lord {keep in step –Gal 5:25; Be still and know –Ps 46:10}
  6. Fretting because someone prospers in the world’s way {Friend of world = enemy of God –Jam 4:4}

  • dwell[07931] = abide, tabernacle, reside

  • Desires[04862] = request, petition, prayers

*Faith and obedience (v. 3) will bring divine blessing – answered prayer(v. 4).

Psalm 37:5 AMP … Commit your way to the Lord [roll and repose each care of your load on Him]; trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass.

From NetBible Ps 37:7Rest/be still in the LORD, and wait patiently/quietly/confidently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way …

  • rest[01826] = be still, quiet, hold peace
