A Mighty Fortress

October 17, 2019

Psalm 46:1-3 Amplified Bible (AMP)
1 God is our refuge and strength [mighty and impenetrable],
A very present and well-proved help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change
And though the mountains be shaken and slip into the heart of the seas, 3 Though its waters roar and foam,
Though the mountains tremble at its roaring. Selah.

Psalm 59:17 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
17 Unto You, O my Strength, I will sing praises; for God is my Defense, my Fortress, and High Tower, the God Who shows me mercy and steadfast love.
The Lord is our refuge – our shelter
He is our place of safety, protection, hope and trust!
The Lord is our strength
He is our power, might, boldness and praise!
A Mighty Fortress is our God
A Tower of Strength never failing
Nothing can separate us from His love!

Romans 8:37-39 Amplified Bible (AMP)
37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors and gain an overwhelming victory through Him who loved us [so much that He died for us]. 38 For I am convinced [and continue to be convinced—beyond any doubt] that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the [unlimited] love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

A Mighty Fortress is our God
A Tower of Strength never failing
The name of Jesus true and strong
No other power could ever save us
You are good / You are good
Mighty Fortress
Yesterday and Today and Forever
Your love will remain
Nothing has the power to sever Your love
You are good You are good
And Your mercy endures
You are good You are good
He won’t abandon
He won’t deceive
He won’t desert us

Ecclesiastes 10:10 NLT … Since a dull ax requires great strength, sharpen the blade. That’s the value of wisdom; it helps you succeed.

From NetBible Ecc 10:10

  • The point is that it is a waste of a great deal of strength and energy. If a person is not smart{wise}, he will have to use a lot of energy and waste his efficiency.

Keep spiritually sharp
Do not let your ears become dull(
hard of hearing)

19 So that your trust and reliance and confidence may be in the Lord, I have taught these things to you today, even to you.

John 14:21-23 Amplified Bible (AMP)
21 The person who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who [really] loves Me; and whoever [really] loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him [I will make Myself real to him].” 22 Judas (not Iscariot) asked Him, “Lord, what has happened that You are going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered, “If anyone [really] loves Me, he will keep My word (teaching); and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling place with him.

Remember the Good Way

October 4, 2019

Jeremiah 6:16This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls”. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’

ASK Jesus where the “Good Way” is
And walk in it! –

Follow Him even if nobody else does!
Jesus IS the ONLY good WAY, TRUTH and LIFE!

Psalm 1:1-3 AMPC
1 Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather.
2 But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night.
3 And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity].

Psalm 92:13-15 AMPC
13 Planted in the house of the Lord, they shall flourish in the courts of our God.
14 [Growing in grace] they shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap [of spiritual vitality] and [rich in the] verdure [of trust, love, and contentment].
15 [They are living memorials] to show that the Lord is upright and faithful to His promises; He is my Rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

Choose Wisely – The “Better” Part

September 15, 2019

Luke 10:38-42 Amplified Bible (AMP)
Martha and Mary
38 Now while they were on their way, Jesus entered a village [called Bethany], and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. 39 She had a sister named Mary, who seated herself at the Lord’s feet and was continually listening to His teaching. 40 But Martha was very busy and distracted with all of her serving responsibilities; and she approached Him and said, “Lord, is it of no concern to You that my sister has left me to do the serving alone? Tell her to help me and do her part.” 41 But the Lord replied to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered and anxious about so many things; 42 but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good{better} part [that which is to her advantage], which will not be taken away from her.”

Has anyone ever made statements like this to you?

  • I am serving all “alone”; you are only listening at Jesus feet
    => you are not helping!
  • You seem only to be worshipping, praying and listening for the Lord’s words => Why aren’t you “busy” serving?

Another interesting thing was pointed out to me recently
=>Martha did welcome Jesus into her home, but was too “busy” serving to ask Jesus what He wanted her to do. She actually interrupts Jesus to tell Him what to do!
Choose wisely – the better part!

Word Study
From NetBible Luke 10:38-42

  • Bethany = where Martha, Mary & Lazarus lived Jn 11:1
*Martha welcomed Jesus into her home as her guest
  • Mary took the initiative to sit at Jesus feet and listen to His words
  • Martha was distracted with much serving
*Distracted means to be pulled away by something
  • Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things
    * double vocative Martha, Martha communicates emotion indicates urgency
  • But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.
    * good treated as a positive for comparative (“better”)
part[3310] = distinct from the whole – an assigned portion, share

Renewed Like the Eagle

August 21, 2019

Psalm 103:5 NET … who satisfies your life with good things, so your youth is renewed like an eagle’s.

  • From Netbible Ps 103:5
    • NLT … He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!
    • NRSV … who satisfies you with good as long as you live so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
    • BBE … He makes your mouth full of good things, so that your strength is made new again like the eagle’s.
  • *fills mouth = your duration; your continuance = your life
  • *The expression your youth is renewed like an eagle’s may allude to the phenomenon of molting, whereby the eagle grows new feathers.

Psalm 103:5 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
5 Who satisfies your mouth [your necessity and desire at your personal age and situation] with good so that your youth, renewed, is like the eagle’s [strong, overcoming, soaring]!

As you trust in the Lord Ps 34:8
He will carry you through this situation
Is 46:4
He will bear you up on eagle’s wings Dt 32:11
He will strengthen you
Your life will be filled with good things
Your youth – renewed as the eagle
=> strong, overcoming, soaring! Is 40:31

Isaiah 40:31 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
31 But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.

The place the Lord bears His children up on eagle’s wings is the same place that the beloved dwell between His shoulders=> a place of rest/renewal, a place of trust in the Lord.

Deuteronomy 33:12Of Benjamin{“son of the right hand”} he said: “The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety{rest secure} by Him, Who shelters{covers} him all the day long; And he shall dwell between His shoulders.”

Strange Scriptures That Perplex the Western Mind
By Barbara M. Bowen

This scripture refers to the Bible Land’s hammock or cradle, … It is a hammock … carried on the mother’s shoulders, with cords passing across her forehead. … How often we have seen a small hammock on the shoulders of a young mother, with a tiny face peeking out, or more often with a sleeping baby and a little foot or a small hand showing at the side of the hammock. When the mother carries the child, she will draw a part of her large white veil over the hammock as a protection against the hot sun, either partly or completely covering it. This is the common picture referred to in Deut. 33:12.
