Rejoice Evermore!

March 2, 2014

2 Corinthians 6:10  AMP … As grieved and mourning, yet [we are] always rejoicing; as poor [ourselves, yet] bestowing riches on many; as having nothing, and [yet in reality] possessing all things.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 AMP … 16 Be happy [in your faith] and rejoice and be glad-hearted continually (always);17 Be unceasing in prayer [praying perseveringly]; 18 Thank [God] in everything [no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks], for this is the will of God for you [who are] in Christ Jesus [the Revealer and Mediator of that will].

1 Thessalonians 5:16 KJV … 16 Rejoice evermore …

Spurgeon quote from 1 Thess 5:16-20 commentary:
==> Because Jesus has suffered, we are encouraged, commanded, and enabled to rejoice. Only the Man of Sorrows and his chosen apostles can teach for a precept such a word as this … Rejoice evermore. … Who can be sad, or silent, when the voice of the Beloved saith Rejoice evermore?

How are we to rejoice evermore?
==>By keeping the sacrifice of Jesus and God’s mercy in view.

Romans 12:1 NIV … Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

Only then can we
==> Rejoice continually, always, evermore! No matter the circumstance.
==> Only then can we be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer!

Romans 12:12 NIV … Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful{persistant} in prayer.

Pursue the Peace of God

September 15, 2011

Psalm 34:14 AMP … Depart from evil and do good; seek, inquire for, and crave peace and pursue (go after) it!

How hard do I seek the Lord’s peace? Do I ask Him for it? Do I crave it? Do I run after it?

Philippians 4:4-9
Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!

See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people. Rejoice always, -1 Thess 5:15-16

Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. -1 Thess 5:17-18

Lord Jesus, thank You that You are our peace and joy. Help us to rejoice in You always. Show us how to pray without ceasing, and in everything to give thanks. Thank You Jesus that thru You, we have the peace of God which guards our hearts and minds.

Jesus, help us each confidently trust You. Keep our minds stayed, fixed on You. -Isa 26:3

Watchful Praise

May 25, 2011

Acts 16:23-26After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. Upon receiving such orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.

About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody’s chains came loose.

Remember Paul and Silas? Ever wonder why they were praying and singing near midnight? After a long day, being beaten and thrown in prison why would they do this? Consider Psalm 119 – they knew this psalm.

Psalm 119:60-62 I made haste, and did not delay to keep Your commandments. Though the wicked bind me with ropes, I will not forget your law. At midnight I will rise to give thanks to You, because of Your righteous judgments.

The word for give thanks is yadah[03034] and it means to give thanks, laud, praise, worship, to confess the name of God with extended hands. Praying and singing near midnight was a way to keep alert and declare their faith{the other prisoners were listening to them}.

Colossians 4:2 BBE … Give yourselves to prayer at all times, keeping watch with praise;

The word for watch is gregoreuo[1127] meaning to keep awake, alert, vigilant.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God; which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

A Sacrifice of Praise

February 23, 2011

Hebrews 13:15 NIV  Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess His name.

Through Jesus! Without Jesus we can not bear fruit.

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. -Jn 15:4

Through Jesus! Together as we assemble and offer a sacrifice of praise – a thank offering: singing praises to honor His name
—> this is a way of abiding with Him and bearing fruit
—> the fruit of our lips!

Why should we assemble together and honor His name in this way?

  1. Because of His mercy, unfailing love and faithfulness and because His promises are backed by all the honor of His name.
  2. This is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 138:2 I bow before Your holy Temple as I worship. I will give thanks to Your name for Your unfailing love and faithfulness, because Your promises are backed by all the honor of Your name.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything{in all circumstances} give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Lord help us to always come before You offering our praises with our whole hearts. Thank You that as we do this we will abide in You and You in us.

The ABC’s of Thanksgiving

January 19, 2010

Although things are not perfect
Because of trial or pain
Continue in thanksgiving
Do not begin to blame.
Even when times are hard –
Fierce winds are bound to blow –
God is forever able;
Hold on to what you know.
Imagine life without His love.
Joy would cease to be.
Keep thanking Him for all the things
Love imparts to thee.
Move out of “Camp Complaining.”
No weapon that is known
On earth can yield the power
Praise can do alone.
Quit looking at the future;
Redeem the time at hand.
Start every day with worship.
To thank is a command!
Until we see Him coming
Victorious in the sky,
We’ll run the race with gratitude,
eXalting God most high.
Yes, there will be good times and there will be bad, but . . .
Zion waits in glory, where no one is ever sad.
