Be Wise

August 4, 2015

Proverbs 8:32-35 AMP
32 Now therefore listen to me, O you sons; for blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are those who keep my ways. 33 Hear instruction and be wise, and do not refuse or neglect it. 34 Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. 35 For whoever finds me [Wisdom] finds life and draws forth and obtains favor from the Lord.

Be wise
Seek, hear and obey the Lord’s instructions
Be blessed
=>You must follow the Lord close enough to see
Which way His eye is looking(pointing).

O Lord Jesus to You, enthroned in heaven, I lift up my eyes. Lord I desire the eyes of Your dove,  eyes “married” to You alone, to do Your will. Cause me to experience Your path of life, the fullness of joy in Your presence.

Psalm 32:8-9 AMP
8 I [the Lord] will instruct you{make you wise} and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. 9 Be not like the horse or the mule, which lack understanding, which must have their mouths held firm with bit and bridle, or else they will not come with you.

Psalm 123:1-2 AMP
1 Unto You do I lift up my eyes, O You Who are enthroned in heaven. 2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, and as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, until He has mercy and loving-kindness for us.

From Lift Up Your Eyes{my article}

Lift up your eyes and look to the Sovereign Lord who is enthroned in the heavens. There is no higher place to look than to the Lord, Most High. Behold, as a servant looks to their master, for direction, service, devotion, dependence, shelter, food, defense and mercy. Servants in David’s time looked so intently on their masters that they could read their slightest movement. The servants watched their master’s eye and hand to know and do his will. A perfect illustration of how we ought to wait upon our Lord, anxious to do His will. This image expresses complete dependence and humility. The eye of a servant of the Lord, fixed on Him, waits, hopes and is patient looking only to the Lord Most High for direction, help and mercy.

All this attention on the eye prompted me to look up the meaning of **lift up [05375]. In hebrew it means: I magnify, exalt, extol, desire, long and , marry my eyes.

How beautiful: To You I *marry my eyes, O You who are enthroned in the heavens!

Song 4:1, 1:15
How beautiful you are, my darling, How beautiful you are! Your eyes are like doves behind your veil

Song 5:12
His eyes are like doves beside streams of water, bathed in milk, and reposed in their setting.

Both the bride and the bridegroom have the eyes of a dove. When a dove fixes its gaze upon its mate, it is not distracted by any activities around it. It possesses a singleness of eye for its mate alone.

Psalm 16:11 AMP
11 You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.

From NetBible Ps 16:11

  • *show me the path of life = cause me to know or experience the path of life

Expectantly Look

November 18, 2011

When you don’t know what to do
Wait while I open the door for you to go thru
Trust Me ……………………………..-Prov 3:5
Expectantly look to Me …………..-Ps 123:2
I will direct your steps …………..-Prov 3:6
You will go forward with joy
And be led forth with peace! …..-Isa 55:11-12

Have you ever been in a situation where circumstances were pressing in on you to act? Pressing circumstances make you want to flee. This is where I was recently; the Lord encouraged me with the above words. In response I started praying and singing to the Lord.

I will wait for You Lord
I will wait on You
I will wait for You Lord
Expectantly wait for You …

My singing was interrupted by a voice saying “Is that you Karen?”. I was stunned and looked to see who was speaking. How could this woman hear me, I was singing so softly? I went over to her and we started talking. She did not hear my song. As we spoke we talked of the Lord. All of a sudden she said “Trust the Lord!”. I knew this was the Lord speaking to me. He knew I was having a had time waiting for Him to make a way for me where there was no way. I also knew it was from the verse the Lord often uses to encourage me when I’m unsure of which way to go.

Proverbs 3:5-6 AMP … Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. 6In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.

I shared this with the woman. We were both filled with joy! The woman was glad to know the Lord used her to encourage me. And my heart was lifted knowing that the Lord heard me and was near me; He was helping me!

Psalm 28:7 AMP … The Lord is my Strength and my [impenetrable] Shield; my heart trusts in, relies on, and confidently leans on Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song will I praise Him.

After this my heart greatly rejoiced and I praised the Lord with my song even more. My circumstances are not yet changed but the Lord is helping me to wait and  expectantly look for His hand to open the door before me.

Word StudyFrom NetBible Prov 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding

  • Trust[0982] in the Lord = confidently rely/lean on the Lord
*here the object of the secure trust is the Lord who is a reliable object of confidence.
  • with all your heart[03820] = inner man, mind, will, understanding, soul, whole being, wholheartedly
  • lean not[08172] = rely not, trust not
*relying on one’s own understanding is compared to leaning on something that is unreliable for support
  • your own understanding[0998] = discernment, knowledge, wisdom
*inherent human understanding functions in relative ignorance unless supplemented by divine wisdom (Job 28:12-28; 39:26).
    * It is dangerous for a person to rely upon mere human wisdom (Prov 14:12; 16:25).

From NetBible Prov 9:10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

  • fear of the Lord[03374] = respect, reverence, honor, awe, worship
  • knowledge[01847] = discernment, understanding, wisdom
from to know[03045] = acknowledge him
  • understanding[0998] = discernment, knowledge, wisdom

From NetBible Ps 123:2
Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters, … so our eyes look to the LORD our God, until He has mercy on us.

  • *Servants look to their master for food, shelter, and other basic needs.
  • *look to the Lord = wait upon the Lord

From NetBible Ps 130:5
I wait for the LORD, my soul does wait, And in His word do I hope.

  • wait[06960] = look eagerly for, hope, expect patiently
  • my soul waits = I rely on him with my whole being, my whole heart
  • His word[01697] = speech, utterance, command
  • hope[03176] = wait in anticipation, wait for his assuring, expect, trust

From NetBible Prov 3:6
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. NKJV

Always let Him lead you, and He will clear the road for you to follow. CEV

  • Acknowledge[03045] = know him
*includes mental awareness of who God is and the consequential submission to his lordship. To know him is to obey him. The sage is calling for a life of trust and obedience in which the disciple sees the Lord in every event and relies on him. To acknowledge the Lord in every event means trusting and obeying him for guidance in right conduct.
  • In all your ways[01870] = manner, habit, path
*This is a call for total commitment in trust for obedience in all things.
  • direct your paths[03474] = to be made level, be laid smoothly out
*This phrase means “to make the way free from obstacles,” that is, to make it successful. The straight, even road is the right road; God will make the way smooth for the believer.

From NetBible Isa 55:11-12
My word … will not return to Me void …
You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace …

  • word[01697] = speech, utterance, command
  • void[07387] = empty, in vain, without effect
  • *God’s plans are realized and his deeds accomplish something positive producing fruit.
  • go out[03318] in joy[08057] = {proceed, go forward, led out} in {mirth, gladness, rejoicing}
  • led forth[02986] in peace[07965] = {carried, borne} in {safety, contentment, rest}

  • keep[05341]= guard with fidelity, watch over, protect
  • perfect peace[07965] = complete peace, safety
with God especially in covenant relationship – entering into a relationship of wholeness/ unity
  • steadfast[05564]= to lean, lay, rest upon, to stand fast
  • trust[0982] = to be confident, secure, sure

From NetBible Ps 17:8

  • Keep/protect me as the apple of Your eye
    *From Zech 2:8

    • the apple (pupil) of the eye[0892] = gate
The pupil is one of the most vulnerable and valuable parts of the body, so for Judah to be considered the “pupil” of the Lord’s eye is to raise her value to an incalculable price (cf. NLT “my most precious possession”).

From NetBible Song 1:15, 5:12, 4:1

  • eyes like doves
    * The comparison has to do with gentleness and purity, as well as longing and simplicity

    * like doves[03123]
(apparently from the warmth of their mating – like the warmth/effervesce from wine)* this may be a comparison of sense, usually suggesting that the dove is a symbol for purity and that the eyes of a person are the windows of their soul or character, that is, the bride has a pure character as can be seen through her eyes.

From NetBible Mt 6:22
If you eye is single

  • single[573]= sound, whole, clear, pure, true

your whole body will be full of light.

  • full of light[5460] = of a bright character, lustrous
*full of truth and its knowledge, together with the spiritual purity associated with it

From NetBible Ps 123:1

To You I lift up my eyes

  • lift up[05375] = marry, desire, long for

From NetBible Ps 86:11

give me an undivided heart, that I may fear Your name.

  • undivided heart[03161] = heart joined, united, married
    to fear the Lord’s name

Lift Up Your Eyes

June 24, 2009

Lift up your eyes
Know where your help comes from.

I lift up my eyes to the hills — where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. -Ps 121:1-2

Know NOTHING is too hard for the Sovereign LORD!

Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you. -Jere 32:17

Know that the Lord is good, His love and mercy never fail.

Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His love endures forever. -Ps 106:1

Know that the Lord is faithful.

The one who calls you is faithful and He will do it. -1 Thess 5:24

Know that the Lord watches over you.

The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand. – Ps 121:5

Lift up your eyes
Know where your help comes from
Be still

Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.
The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Selah -Ps 46:10-11

You cannot be still and know unless you lift up your eyes to I AM.

I Lift My Eyes Up
Brian Doerksen (taken from Psalm 121)

I lift my eyes up to the mountains
Where does my help come from
My help comes from You
Maker of heaven, Creator of the earth
I lift my eyes up to the mountains
Where does my help come from
My help comes from You
Maker of heaven, Creator of the earth

Oh how I need You Lord
You are my only hope
You’re my only prayer
So I will wait for You
To come and rescue me
Come and give me life

Psalm 121:1-2    I lift up my eyes to the hills — where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.

Why does the psalmist say I lift up my eyes to the “hills” instead of the “Lord”? From the Netbible hills [02022], the majesty, height and power of the mountains reaching up to the heavens above the clouds led people to associate these hills or mountains with gods. So looking to the hills or mountains is another way to say look to the power and majesty of the gods — but doesn’t really specify which God? The amplified version sheds more light on this.

Psalm 121:1 AMP    I WILL lift up my eyes to the hills [around Jerusalem, to sacred Mount Zion and Mount Moriah]–From whence shall my help come?

The psalmist was saying I lift up my eyes to the hills, meaning the specific hills of Mount Zion and Moriah. These are not just any hills that the psalmist is looking up to, these hills are closely associated with the Lord Most High, the Maker of heaven and earth! Zion is the Lord’s chosen dwelling place forever, the place where He is enthroned.

Psalm 132:13-14   For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His dwelling place: “This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it”.

Psalm 2:6   I have installed My King On My holy hill of Zion.

Psalm 9:11   Sing praises to the LORD, enthroned in Zion; proclaim among the nations what he has done.

Mount Moriah is where Abraham offered up Isaac, his only true beloved son, as a sacrifice to the Lord(Gen 22:1-19). Here the Lord himself provides the lamb for sacrifice. This points to the sacrifice of Jesus as the Lamb of God(Jn 1:29,36), God’s only beloved Son(Jn 3:16; Mt 3:17, 17:5).

Wow! The Psalmist by saying I lift up my eyes to the hills{ Mount Zion and Mount Moriah} is actually saying to focus on the Lord’s dwelling place, majesty and  presence and to remember Jesus the Lamb of God, His blood sacrifice. It’s only by the blood of the Lamb, Jesus,  that we can come into the presence of a Holy God and know where our help comes from – the Maker of heaven and earth, the Sovereign Lord.

Psalm 123:1   To You I lift up my eyes, O You who are enthroned in the heavens!
