Pure Undivided Heart

March 5, 2014

Psalm 86:11 NIV … Teach me Your way, O LORD, and I will walk in Your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear Your name.

Psalm 86:11 NLT … Teach me your ways, O LORD, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, that I may honor you.

Psalm 86:11-12 AMP … Teach me Your way, O Lord, that I may walk and live in Your truth; direct and unite my heart [solely, reverently] to fear and honor Your name. I will confess and praise You, O Lord my God, with my whole (united) heart; and I will glorify Your name forevermore.

Teach me Your ways O LORD
And I will walk in Your truth
Grant me purity of heart
That I may honor You
Lord Jesus
With my whole(united) heart
I long to glorify Your name.

Give me an undivided heart
That I may fear Your name
For You alone do I long to worship
Your call alone do I long to hear.

PureHeart1

Psalm 51:10Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Matthew 5:8Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
.

If our feet are to walk in the Lord’s way and truth, our hearts must wholeheartedly submit to His rule.

.
Job 23:10-12But He knows the way that I take [He has concern for it, appreciates, and pays attention to it]. When He has tried me, I shall come forth as refined gold [pure and luminous].
11 My foot has held fast to His steps; His ways have I kept and not turned aside.
12 I have not gone back from the commandment of His lips; I have esteemed and treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.

From NetBible Mt 5:8

  • pure[2513] = clean, purified by fire, like a vine cleansed by pruning to bear fruit, blameless, innocent
  • see[03700] = to gaze (i.e. with wide-open eyes, as at something remarkable;

From NetBible Ps 86:11

  • unite[03161] my heart = to join, to become one, wholeheartedly committed, give me an undivided heart, grant me purity of heart

Pure in Heart – Lift Up Your Heads!

February 12, 2014

Psalm 24:3-4,7 NKJV … Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? Or who may stand in His holy [dwelling]place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully. … Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in.

Matthew 5:8 NKJV … Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.

Who may lift up their heads and ascend into the hill of the Lord? Into His dwelling place/presence?
==> Those with clean hands and a pure heart

From NetBible Ps 24:4

  • *clean hands – pure heart ==>The “hands” allude to one’s actions, the “heart” to one’s thought life and motives.
  • pure[01249] = clear, sincere
From[01305] = to purify, select, polish, choose, purge, cleanse or make bright, test or prove, examine

From NetBible Mt 5:8

  • pure[2513] = clean, purified by fire, sincere, blameless, innocent, free from falsehoods
    * like a vine cleansed by pruning and so fitted to bear fruit
  • see[3700] = to behold, to allow oneself to be seen

==> Those who have not lifted up their souls to an idol

From NetBible Ps 24:4

  • lift up[05375] = rise up, look up
  • *lift up his soul to an idol ==> here means to “long for” or “desire strongly.”
==>the opposite of Ps 143:8 -lift up his soul to the Lord
Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, For in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, For I lift up my soul to You.

The words above give a beautiful picture of what a pure heart is. A heart that so longs for the Lord’s presence that it willingly submits to the Lord’s purifying fire or pruning. A heart that longs to hear and do the Lord’s will alone. The pictures of a pure heart above are much like the picture painted below in Paul’s prayer(Phil 1:9-11).

The strong’s word – heilikrines [1506] for sincere in his prayer is very interesting. It means pure, sincere, unsullied. Looking more closely at this word, we see it is actually a compound word. The first part comes from heile (the sun’s ray), the second from krino (to judge). So the two parts together mean to be found pure when unfolded and examined by the sun’s light!

What a beautiful picture of a sincere/pure heart!

The heart of one with a “sincere” devotion to the Lord will be found pure when examined and judged by the Son, the light of the world. It will be a heart that has willingly submitted to Lord’s searching and cleansing.

From NetBbible Phil 1:10

  • *sincere – heilikrines[1506] = pure, unsullied
*found pure when unfolded and examined by the sun’s light
*from heile (the sun’s ray) and [2919]; judged by sunlight, i.e. tested as genuine (figuratively):-pure, sincere.
Philippians 1:9-11 NKJV … And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, 10 that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, 11 being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God..Psalm 139:23-24    Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Take Off Your Shoes

April 13, 2011

“Earth is crammed with heaven,
And every bush is aflame with God
But only those who see, take off their shoes.” – Elizabeth Browning

Acts 7:33The LORD said to him, “Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground”.

From NetBible Acts 7:33

A quotation from Exod 3:5. The phrase holy ground points to the fact that God is not limited to a particular locale. The place where he is active in revealing himself is a holy place.

The word קֹדֶשׁ (qodesh, “holy”) indicates “set apart, distinct, unique.” What made a mountain or other place holy was the fact that God chose that place to reveal himself or to reside among his people. Because God was in this place, the ground was different – it was holy.

The removal of sandals was, and still is in the East, a sign of humility and reverence in the presence of the Holy One. It was a way of excluding the dust and dirt of the world.

.

Lord Jesus help us to set our hearts on You
To humbly seek Your face{take off our shoes}.
Please create in us clean hearts and pure hands –Ps 24:3-6, 51:10
That we may lift them up and bless You Lord. –Lam 3:41;Ps 134:2BLESS (AFFECTIONATELY, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul; and all that is [deepest] within me, bless His holy name! -Ps 103:1

I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope He has given to those He called–His holy people who are His rich and glorious inheritance. -Eph 1:18

Walking in Agreement

July 2, 2010

Job 36:21-26 AMP Take heed, turn not to iniquity, for this [the iniquity of complaining against God] you have chosen rather than [submission in] affliction. 22Behold, God exalts and does loftily in His power; who is a ruler or a teacher like Him? 23Who has appointed{enjoined[06485]} God His way? Or who can say, You have done unrighteousness? 24Remember that [by submission] you magnify God’s work, of which men have sung. 25All men have looked upon God’s work; man may behold it afar off. 26Behold, God is great, and we know Him not! The number of His years is unsearchable.

Amos 3:2-4 “You only have I known of all the families of the earth; Therefore I will punish[06485] you for all your iniquities.” 3Can two walk together, unless they are agreed? 4Will a lion roar in the forest, when he has no prey? Will a young lion cry out of his den, if he has caught nothing?

From Netbible Job 36:23, Amos 3:2
assign [06485] paqad
1) to attend to, muster, number, reckon, visit, punish, appoint, look
after, care for

1 John 1:5-9 NIV
Walking in the light

5This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Take heed turn not to iniquity
Remember that [by submission] you magnify God’s work
If you refuse to submit to the work of His hand
… He will walk with you only to “punish you”; as a “lion” walks with his “prey”.

For those whom the LORD loves He disciplines[3811], and scourges every son whom He receives. -Heb 12:6

From Netbible Heb 12:6
discipline [3811] paideuo
1) to train children, to be instructed or taught or learn, to cause one to learn
2) to chasten by the affliction of evils and calamities, to chastise with blows, to scourge, of a father punishing his son, of a judge ordering one to be scourged after, care for

Psalm 138:8 AMP The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy and loving-kindness, O Lord, endure forever–forsake not the works of Your own hands

Psalm 57:2 AMP I will cry to God Most High, Who performs on my behalf and rewards me [Who brings to pass His purposes for me and surely completes them]!

Philippians 1:6 AMP And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.

Behold, LORD, You desire truth in the inner being; make me therefore to know wisdom in my inmost heart. Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. … Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right, persevering, and steadfast spirit within me. … O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall show forth Your praise. –Ps 51

Firebrand

March 18, 2010

The weapons of the King are both the sword and the flaming arrow.

Psalm 45:3-5    Gird Your sword upon Your thigh, O Mighty One, With Your glory and Your majesty.
4 And in Your majesty ride on victoriously because of truth, humility, and righteousness; Let Your right hand teach You awesome things.
5 Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the King’s enemies; The peoples fall under Your feet.

Zec 3:2   The LORD said to Satan, “The LORD rebuke you, Satan! The LORD, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man[Joshua] a burning stick snatched from the fire?”

a fire brand is a burning stick —> a flaming arrow
—> that causes trouble for enemies of the LORD!

Psalm 120:3-4   What shall be given to you? Or what more shall be done to you, you deceitful tongue? … Sharp arrows of a [mighty] warrior, with [glowing] coals of the broom tree.

—-> These sharp arrows are forged in burning hot coals of fire. They are polished and made sharp to pierce the loins and bring His truth to the inner most parts of their target.

Lamentations 3:13    He has caused the arrows of His quiver to pierce my loins.

Psalm 51:6-7, 10-12 AMP
6Behold, You desire truth in the inner being; make me therefore to know wisdom in my inmost heart. 7Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean[ceremonially]; wash me, and I shall [in reality] be whiter than snow. …

10Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right, persevering, and steadfast spirit within me. 11Cast me not away from Your presence and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. 12Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and uphold me with a willing spirit.

Lift Up Hearts and Hands

February 21, 2010

Lamentations 3:40-41 AMP
Let us test and examine our ways, and let us return to the Lord! Let us lift up our hearts and our hands [and then with them mount up in prayer] to God in heaven.

1 Timothy 2:8
I desire therefore that in every place men should pray, without anger or quarreling or resentment or doubt [in their minds], lifting up holy hands.

Who shall go up into the mountain of the Lord? Or who shall stand in His Holy Place?

He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted himself up to falsehood or to what is false, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. -Ps 24:3-5

Let my prayer be set forth as incense before You, the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. -Ps 141:2

I spread out my hands to You;
My soul longs for You like a thirsty land.
Selah
Answer me speedily, O LORD;
My spirit fails!
Do not hide Your face from me,
Lest I be like those who go down into the pit.
Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning,
For in You do I trust;
Cause me to know the way in which I should walk,
For I lift up my soul to You. -Ps 143:6-8

Lift up your hands in holiness and to the sanctuary and bless the Lord [affectionately and gratefully praise Him]! -Ps 134:2

So will I bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. -Ps 63:4

Restore the Joy

June 22, 2009

Psalm 10:1   Why do You stand afar off, O LORD? Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble?

Is this your cry today? Are you in the midst of a trial or battle feeling alone as if the Lord is far off?

Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble?   It’s not the trial or trouble that causes this cry, it’s the hiding of our Father’s face. Why would it ever feel as if our Father’s face was hidden to us? Especially if you remember His promises?

  • God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. -Ps 46:1
  • … lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. -Mt 28:20
  • When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. -Isa 43:2
  • He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” -Heb 13:5-6

There may be more than one answer as to why it feels as if the Lord’s face is hidden. Could it be that it is not the Lord who has moved away?

Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; let the bones which You have broken rejoice. Hide Your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean{pure} heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit. -Ps 51:7-12
