28. Psalm 23:1-6The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want{lack no good thing}. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Firmly Planted

November 21, 2019

Psalm 1:1-3 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
1 Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather.
2 But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night.
3 And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity].

7 Let your roots grow down into Him and draw up nourishment from Him, so you will grow in faith, strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with thanksgiving for all He has done.
.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 AMPC
7 [Most] blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is.
8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters that spreads out its roots by the river; and it shall not see and fear when heat comes; but its leaf shall be green. It shall not be anxious and full of care in the year of drought, nor shall it cease yielding fruit.

Proverbs 12:3 NLT … Wickedness never brings stability; only the godly have deep roots.

From NetBible Pro 12:3

  • * “a root of righteousness” = stresses the security of the righteous; they are firmly planted and cannot be uprooted – they have deep roots”. The righteous are often compared to a tree (Pro 11:30;Ps 1:3, 92:13)

Proverbs 10:25When the storm{whirlwind} has swept by, the wicked are gone{swept away}, but the righteous stand firm forever{has an everlasting foundation.}.

From NetBIble Pro 10:25

  • * “storm wind” – “whirlwind” is used in prophetic passages that describe swift judgment and destruction.
  • * stand firm = everlasting foundation => this metaphor stresses the eternal security that the righteous have – the wicked have no such security.
