Ears Hard of Hearing

August 19, 2017

Acts 28:23-27 AMPC … So when they had set a day with him, they came in large numbers to his lodging. And he fully set forth and explained the matter to them from morning until night, testifying to the kingdom of God and trying to persuade them concerning Jesus both from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets.
24 And some were convinced and believed what he said, and others did not believe.
25 And as they disagreed among themselves, they began to leave, [but not before] Paul had added one statement [more]: The Holy Spirit was right in saying through Isaiah the prophet to your forefathers:
26 Go to this people and say to them, You will indeed hear and hear with your ears but will not understand, and you will indeed look and look with your eyes but will not see [not perceive, have knowledge of or become acquainted with what you look at, at all].
27 For the heart (the understanding, the soul) of this people has grown dull (stupid, hardened, and calloused), and their ears are heavy and hard of hearing and they have shut tight their eyes, so that they may not perceive and have knowledge and become acquainted with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their souls and turn [to Me and be converted], that I may heal them.

Paul testified about Jesus both from the law of Moses and from the Prophets(v23) and Scripture(v25: Isaiah 6).

Why then did some not understand?

  • They have shut their eyes
  • Their ears are hard of hearing
  • Their hearts are hardened

James 1:23-25Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the PERFECT LAW that gives FREEDOM, and continues in it–not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it–they will be blessed in what they do.

Ears are dull(hard of hearing) from drinking only milk and
From thirsting for water{spirit} without eating solid food.

Heb 5:11-14; Amos 8:11-14

Matthew 22:29Jesus answered them, “You are deceived{in error, mistaken, wrong}, because you don’t know{understand} the Scriptures or the power of God”.

Why are ears hard of hearing-Eyes shut tight&Hearts not understanding? => Matthew 22:29
Dull Ears=>from drinking only milk &thirsting for water{spirit} without eating solid food –Heb 5:11-14; Amos 8:11-14
Be careful what you eat=>It affects what you are able to hear-see-understand! Mark 4:24

Measuring Line = Plumb Line

November 16, 2015

Isaiah 28:16-17 NASB … Therefore thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed. 17 “I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the level; Then hail will sweep away the refuge of lies And the waters will overflow the secret place”.

From NetBible Cornerstone

  • The cornerstone here is Christ
  • The cornerstone is of great importance in binding together the sides of a building. The phrase “corner-stone” is sometimes used to denote any principal person, as the princes of Egypt, (Is 19:13) and is thus applied to our Lord. (Is 28:16Mt 21:421Pe 2:6-7)

From Godvine Is 28:17

  • Barnes Notes:  Judgment also will I lay to the line – The sense of this is, I will judge them according to the exact rule of law, as an architect frames everything according to the rule which he uses. In other words, there shall be no mercy intermingled. The line is used by a carpenter for measuring; the plummet consists of a piece of lead attached to a string, and is also used by carpenters to obtain a perpendicular line. A carpenter works exactly according to the lines which are thus indicated, or his frame would not be properly adjusted. So God says that he would judge the people of Jerusalem according to the exact rule, without any intermingling of mercy.
And the hail … – (Isaiah 28:2). Hail, hailstones, and floods of waters are frequent images of the divine vengeance and wrath Psalm 105:32; Isaiah 22:19; Isaiah 30:30; Ezekiel 13:13; Ezekiel 38:22; Revelation 8:7; Revelation 11:19; Revelation 16:21.
  • Wesley’s Notes:  Plummet – I will execute just judgment, as it were by a line and plummet annexed to it; that is, with exactness and care: I will severely punish, and utterly destroy all who reject that stone. For the line and plummet, or the plumb – line, was not only used in erecting buildings, but also in pulling them down; those parts of the building being thus marked out, which were to be demolished.

The Measuring line/ Plumb line is used to see if what is built upon the cornerstone of Christ, lines up with Christ. That which does not line up is rejected – swept away.

God’s rule, His plumb line is His word.

2 Timothy 2:15 NKJV … Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

From NetBible 2Tim 2:15

  • study[4704] = make every effort with all diligence
  • approved[1384] = shown to be genuine, not counterfeit
  • workman[2040] = teacher, laborer (for God)
  • rightly dividing[3718] = to cut straight, to proceed on a straight path, to make smooth and straight, to teach correctly

Cuts straight => In placing blocks together to build something, if the blocks are not cut straight, they won’t “stand” or fit together very easily. They will be easily  knocked down and swept away!

Ephesians 4:14-16 AMP … So then, we may no longer be children, tossed [like ships] to and fro between chance gusts of teaching and wavering with every changing wind of doctrine, [the prey of] the cunning and cleverness of unscrupulous men, [gamblers engaged] in every shifting form of trickery in inventing errors to mislead. 15 Rather, let our lives lovingly express truth [in all things, speaking truly, dealing truly, living truly]. Enfolded in love, let us grow up in every way and in all things into Him Who is the Head, [even] Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One). 16 For because of Him the whole body (the church, in all its various parts), closely joined and firmly knit together by the joints and ligaments with which it is supplied, when each part [with power adapted to its need] is working properly [in all its functions], grows to full maturity, building itself up in love.

Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth

The King’s Sword

January 28, 2012

The King’s sword discerns and separates good from evil.
The King’s sword executes judgement.

The King’s sword is discernment, knowledge and wisdom
—> knowledge of God’s Word, and wisdom to apply it.

-1Ki 3:9,24;2Chron 1:10;Ps 149:6-9;Heb 4:12

The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign LORD, “when I will send a famine through the land—
Not a famine of bread,
Nor a thirst for water.

—> a famine of hearing the words of the LORD. -Amos 8:11

What is deception?
Isn’t it believing a lie because the truth is not perceived – intelligently heard?

Why is there a shortage of ears to hear the words of the Lord{truth}?

We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you have become dull of hearing. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. -Heb 5:11-14

Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. -Mt 22:29

There is no shortage of bread{truth} —>solid food.

Ears are dull from drinking only milk
From thirsting for water{spirit} without eating solid food.

Dull ears do not know how to use the King’s sword
They are unable to distinguish good from evil or discern truth
They are unable to test the spirits.
-1Jn 4:1

People will stagger from sea to sea And from the north even to the east; They will go to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, But they will not find it. -Amos 8:12
