Rest Between Breaths!

September 11, 2020

From: Rhythms of Rest

  • Matthew 11:28-30
    Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.

    Quote: The practice of rest involves making time to intentionally restore your mind and body for the sake of your soul. Whereas Sabbath rest focuses on setting apart one day each week for rest and worship, this practice focuses on integrating regular rhythms of rest into your day.

=>Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.Matthew 11:29 MSG

Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths, or the turning inwards in prayer for five short minutes. –Etty Hillesum

Rest at the Feet of Jesus

May 4, 2020

Isaiah 60:13 … The glory of Lebanon will come to you, The juniper, the box tree and the cypress together, To beautify the place of My sanctuary; And I shall make the {resting}place of My feet{throne} glorious{full of glory}.

Matthew 11:28-30 … Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and my load is not hard to carry{walk with}.
=> notice 2 types of rest – simply come and then learn and walk yoked with Him!
Psalm 149:4-6 … For the LORD takes delight in His people; He crowns the humble with salvation{deliverance, victory}. 5 Let the saints be joyful in glory; Let them sing aloud on their beds{place of rest}. 6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouths and a double-edged sword in their hands.
Come – all who are weary and heavy-laden –Matthew 11:28
Come to the place of Jesus’ feet –Isaiah 60:13
Humble yourself under His mighty hand –1Peter 5:5-7
Listen for His words like Mary –Luke 10:39
Learn from Jesus at His feet –Matthew 11:29
From this position of rest

Walk together with Him –Matthew 11:30
Walk humbly with high praises in your mouth
And a double-edged sword in your hands
For the Lord crowns the humble with victory! –Psalm 149:4-6
1Peter 5:5-7 … In the same way, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. 6 And God will exalt you in due time, if you humble yourselves under His mighty hand 7 by casting all your cares on Him because He cares for you.

Rest in Jesus

January 14, 2019

Matthew 11:28-30Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
Two kinds of rest

  1. Simply “Come” to Jesus
    Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. –Heb 4:14-16
  2. Be “yoked”/walk and learn from Jesus
    * As we walk we, also walk together with others –Gal 6:2
    * Walk and live as children of the Light –Eph 5:6-11

What “steals” rest?

  1. Fear, doubt => not trusting the Lord {Trust/rely on Him alone –Pro 3:5-7}
  2. Not dwelling/abiding feeding on the Lord’s faithfulness/truth {Abide in Jesus and His Word –Jn 15:4-7}
  3. Not delighting/surrendering all to the Lord {Surrender petitions with prayer and thanksgiving –Phil 4:4-9}
  4. Not totally committing our plans to the Lord {Don’t trust in your own strength –Zec 4:6;Ps 20:7}
  5. Not waiting patiently for the Lord {keep in step –Gal 5:25; Be still and know –Ps 46:10}
  6. Fretting because someone prospers in the world’s way {Friend of world = enemy of God –Jam 4:4}

Before His throne. –Isa 66:1

Word Study
From NetBible Zep 3:17

  • save[03467] = to save, to be liberated, to give victory to
    *from a primitive root, Greek [5614] = hosanna
  • He will quiet you[02790] = make silent, give rest
    * “he causes [you] to be silent by his love,” that is, “he soothes [you] by his love.” The present translation follows the LXX and assumes an original reading יְחַדֵּשׁ (yÿkhaddesh, “he renews”) with ellipsis of the object (“you”).

    • NET … He renews you by His love
    • NLT …  With His love, He will calm all your fears
    • KJV … He will rest in His love{give you rest in His love}
  • love[0160] = God’s love for His people, faithfulness

Isaiah 60:13 NASB

To beautify the place of My sanctuary;
And I shall make the place of My feet glorious.

Two Kinds of Rest

January 16, 2014

Matthew 11:28-30 AMP
28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]{I will give you rest}

  • The condition for receiving this rest is to simply “Come” to Jesus.
  • This rest is given

29 Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.

  • The condition for receiving this rest is to be “yoked” with and “learn” from Jesus. {to walk with Him}
  • This rest is found
  • Jeremiah 6:16 … Thus says the Lord,
    “Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, Where the good way is, and walk in it; And you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
  • Isaiah 30:20-21 … Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

30 For My yoke is wholesome (useful, good—not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light and easy to be borne.

Are you “walking” with Jesus? Are you listening intently for His voice/direction? Are you listening intently to apply/obey the wisdom you learn from the Lord Jesus Christ?

Today, if you hear the voice of Jesus Christ the Lord
Do not harden your hearts
Be careful to listen and obey
To walk in His “way”
The “way” He directs!

Then you will “find” rest for your soul. -Heb 3:7-19

My people have forgotten Me
Thus says the Lord
They burn incense to worthless gods and so
Stand at the crossroads and see
They have stumbled in the way they should go
Consider your path
They no longer follow the ancient paths
Ask for the ancient paths
Instead they walk in bypaths
Where the good way is
And on roads not built up.
And walk in it –

Then you will find rest for your souls.
-Jeremiah 18:15, 6:16
