In One Accord

June 25, 2020

Psalm 133 New King James Version (NKJV)
Blessed Unity of the People of God
A Song of Ascents. Of David.

1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
2 It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard, the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments.
3 It is like the dew of Hermon, Descending upon the mountains of Zion; For there the Lord commanded the blessing— Life forevermore.
Dwelling in unity as the people of God
In one accord –Acts 2:1-3,46-47
The precious oil “runs down” from the head
Down Aaron’s beard{The high priest}
Down the rest of the body
Down off the edge of his garments.
=> a testimony of the Lord’s commanded blessing=eternal life through Jesus Christ!
So how do you get this oil to run down covering the body of Christ creating a testimony that goes out and adds to the body?
So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and singleness of heart, 47 praising God and having favor{grace} with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. –Acts 2:46-47
As you wholeheartedly seek Me in prayer and worship
You will find Me available to you! Jeremiah 29:13

-to cause (cities) to be inhabited
  • unity[03162] = altogether, side by side, as a unit

From NetBible Ps 133:2

  • edge[06310] = mouth (as organ of speech-means of blowing)

From NetBible Acts 2:1-3
When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord[3661in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting[25213 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat[2523upon each of them.

  • one accord[3661] = gathered together, in unison, in chorus
    * Homothumadon is a compound of two words meaning to “rush along” and “in unison”. The image is almost musical; a number of notes are sounded which, while different, harmonise in pitch and tone. As the instruments of a great concert under the direction of a concert master, so the Holy Spirit blends together the lives of members of Christ’s church.
  • sitting[2521] = to have a fixed abode, to dwell
  • sat[2523] = to have fixed one’s abode, rest, to settle(hover, dwell)

Wise and Innocent-Serpents and Doves

June 1, 2020

Matthew 10:16 AMPC … Behold, I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves; be wary and wise as serpents, and be innocent (harmless, guileless, and without falsity) as doves.

This imagery of being sent out like sheep in the midst of wolves is also found here in Paul’s warning:
Acts 20:27-31 For I[Paul] have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will(counsel) of God. 28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. 29 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. 30 Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. 31 So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.
=>Be on your guard against those who distort the truth = be EQUIPPED WITH the whole counsel of God!
=>Wary and wise as serpents = EQUIPPED WITH the whole counsel of God!

2 Timothy 3:16-17 Amplified Bible (AMP) … All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration] and is profitable for instruction, for conviction [of sin], for correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage]; 17 so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, outfitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 2:24-26 Amplified Bible (AMP) … The servant of the Lord must not participate in quarrels, but must be kind to everyone [even-tempered, preserving peace, and he must be], skilled in teaching, patient and tolerant when wronged. 25 He must correct those who are in opposition with courtesy and gentleness in the hope that God may grant that they will repent and be led to the knowledge of the truth [accurately understanding and welcoming it], 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.
Innocent as doves(gentle, patient able to apply God’s word, no deceit)
Innocent as doves in evil, but mature in thinking

1Corinthians 14:20 Amplified Bible (AMP) … Brothers and sisters, do not be children [immature, childlike] in your thinking; be infants in [matters of] evil [completely innocent and inexperienced], but in your minds be mature [adults].

How to Persevere?

May 11, 2020

James 1:4 … Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

This verse led me to ask “How do you persevere”?
The answer seemed to be ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit’.
Zechariah 4:2-6 … He said to me, “What do you see?” And I said, “I am looking, and there is a lampstand{menorah} of solid gold with a bowl on top of it, and on the stand seven lamps with seven pipes to the seven lamps. Two olive trees are by it, one at the right of the bowl and the other at its left. So I answered and spoke to the angel who talked with me, saying, “What are these, my lord.”?” Then the angel who talked with me answered and said to me, “Do you not know what these are?” And I said, “No, my lord.” So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the LORD of hosts.
So what is this lamp stand with seven branches which are lamps filled with golden oil?
Judges 14:18 … “What is sweeter than honey? And what is stronger than a lion?”
=> His Holy Spirit{strength} empowered Word{golden oil}

His Holy Spirit empowered Word enlightens the eyes –1Samuel 14:27
And brings joy to the heart –Psalm 19:8
The joy of the Lord is your strength!  –Nehemiah 8:10
His Holy Spirit empowered Word enables you to
Fix your eyes on Jesus-the author and finisher of our faith
And “run” the race with patient endurance=perseverance! –Hebrews 12:1-3
Psalm 19:7-11 Amplified Bible (AMP)
7 The law of the Lord is perfect (flawless), restoring and refreshing the soul; The statutes of the Lord are reliable and trustworthy, making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true, they are righteous altogether.
10 They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them Your servant is warned [reminded, illuminated, and instructed]; In keeping them there is great reward. …
… 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable and pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my [firm, immovable] rock and my Redeemer.

Answer to Samson’s Riddle Judges 14:18:
“What is sweeter than honey? And what is stronger than a lion?”

The Lord’s words are sweeter than honey!
How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth! –Psalm 119:103

The Spirit of the LORD’s empowerment is stronger than any lion
And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him(Samson), and he tore the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat, though he had nothing in his hand. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done.
Judges 14:6

Spring Up – Spring Up O Well!

April 27, 2020

This is cool! Look at the invitation below – it’s to ALL who are thirsty – both believers and non-believers. I never noticed the invitation to believers before, it’s to keep coming to “drink”. It makes sense tho — if the “rivers of living water” are to keep flowing from those who believe=> they have to keep drinking! Also look how “bearing fruit(Revelation 22)” is related to this need to keep drinking!

Thirsty? Come with joy to drink the water of life.
=> Be refreshed, strengthened and equipped with His joy to send out the invitation to ALL those who are thirsty!

John 7:37-39 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
37 Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, *let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” 39 But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
*Or let him keep coming to Me and let him keep drinking

A Song:
Spring up – spring up o Well
Flowing River of Life
River of Delight –Psalm 36:8-9, 46:4;Rev 22:1-2
Joy unspeakable
Joy full of glory –1Peter 1:8
Overflowing Joy
In the presence of the Lord
Be filled with His Spirit –Ephesians 5:18-21
Fullness of Joy. –Psalm 16:11
Sing to the well
Spring up – spring up o well
With Joy with Joy –Isaiah 12:3
Sing to the Well
Spring up – spring up o Well! –Numbers 21:17

Revelation 22:1-2,17 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
1 Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, 2 in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. …
… 17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.

Psalm 30:11 Amplified Bible (AMP)
You have turned my mourning into dancing for me; You have taken off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy.
1 Chronicles 16:10-11,27 Amplified Bible (AMP)
Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face continually [longing to be in His presence].
… Splendor and majesty are [found] in His presence; Strength and joy are [found] in His place (sanctuary).

Quicken Me

April 20, 2020

Job 33:4 AMPC … [It is] the Spirit of God that made me [which has stirred me up], and the breath of the Almighty that gives me life [which inspires me].
The words from the Song in the previous post are still on my heart: Jesus breathe through me.
So how does Jesus “breathe” through us?
The answer came from the scriptures and word study below.
Jesus “breathes” His word(Psalm 119:107)! His words are spirit and life(John 6:63)!
When the Holy Spirit breathes on the Word it’s like seed quickened to life, i.e. it germinates, springs up, grows.  This quickening, giving life – revives, restores, and/or refreshes, from sickness, discouragement, faintness, death. The work and power of the Spirit of Truth is revealed!

Jesus breathe through me. Bring life as only You can. Life that reveals the work and power of the Spirit of Truth = a testimony of Jesus bringing glory to His name.

Psalm 119:105,107 AMPC … Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. …
… I am sorely afflicted; renew and quicken me [give me life], O Lord, according to Your word!
John 6:63 AMP … It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh conveys no benefit [it is of no account]. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life [providing eternal life].

    • [4154] = to breathe, to blow {of the wind}

Hope and Confidence in the Lord!

March 16, 2020

Jeremiah 17:7-8 Blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and confidence. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.
Job 11:18You will have courage because you will have hope. You will be protected and will rest in safety.
Hope and confidence in the Lord –Jeremiah 17:7-8

  • protected[02658] = to dig, search for
  • safety[0983] = security, peacefully, without care

From Godtube Job 11:18

  • Wesley
Secure – Your mind shall be quiet and free from terrors, because you have a firm and well – grounded confidence in God
  • Clarke
Yea, thou shalt dig – I believe this neither refers to digging his grave, nor to curiously investigating surrounding circumstances; but to the custom of digging for water in the places where they pitched their tents.

From BibleHub Job 11:18

  • *Benson Commentary
Job 11:18-19: *Thou shalt be secure, because there is hope — Thy mind shall be quiet and free from terrors, because thou shalt have a firm and well-grounded confidence in God. Thou shalt dig — Either to fix thy tents, which, after the manner of the Arabians, were removed from place to place; or, to plough thy ground, as he had done, Job 1:14, or to make a fence about thy dwelling
*Thou shalt take thy rest in safety — Free from dangers and the fear of them; because of God’s fatherly providence watching over thee, when thou canst not watch over thyself. And none shall make thee afraid — Thou shalt be in perfect peace, and none shall disquiet thee; yea, many shall make suit unto thee — Desiring thy favour and friendship, because of thy great power and riches, and eminent felicity.

15 For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: In returning [to Me] and resting [in Me] you shall be saved; in quietness and in [trusting] confidence shall be your strength. But you would not.
From NetBible Isa 30:15
This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance{returning} and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust{confidence} is your strength, but you were not willing”.

  • rest[05183] = quiet attitude, peace, patiently wait
  • quietness[08252] = be tranquil, be at peace, rest,  be undisturbed

18 And therefore the Lord [earnestly] waits [expecting, looking, and longing] to be gracious to you; and therefore He lifts Himself up, that He may have mercy on you and show loving-kindness to you. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are all those who [earnestly] wait for Him, who expect and look and long for Him [for His victory, His favor, His love, His peace, His joy, and His matchless, unbroken companionship]!

From NetBible Isa 30:18
Therefore the LORD longs to be gracious to you; He rises to show you His mercy{compassion}. For the LORD is a God of righteousness{justice}; Blessed are all those who wait for{hope in} Him.

  • * The point seems to be that Judah’s impending doom does not bring God joy. Rather the prospect of their suffering stirs within him a willingness to show mercy and compassion, if they are willing to seek him on his terms.
  • gracious[02603] = show favor, to have mercy on
  • mercy[07355] = love deeply, show compassion

Psalm 86:5 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. –John 16:33

Word Study
From NetBible Rev 12:11
They overcame him{enemy} by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.

  • overcame[3528] = to conquer, prevail, get the victory
**1John 4:4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome[3528] them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

  • testimony[3141] = witness as if before a judge
*from [3144] = those who after his example have proved the strength and genuineness of their faith in Christ by undergoing a violent death

From NetBible John 1:14-16
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. John *testified about Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is greater than I, for He existed before me.’ For of His fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.

I Belong to my Beloved

February 25, 2020

“Fear not, I have redeemed you; I call you by name,
you are Mine!” –Isaiah 43:1

You are loved with an everlasting love
I will never forget you
My treasured possession
A living stone to declare My praise …
I am my Beloved’s, and my Beloved is mine. –Song 6:3

Word Study
From NetBible Song 6:3

  • * This is the second occurrence of the poetic refrain that occurs elsewhere in 2:16 and 7:11. The order of the first two cola are reversed from 2:16: “My beloved is mine and I am his” (2:16) but “I am my beloved’s and he is mine” (6:3). This may signal a shift in her view of their relationship: Originally, she focused on her possession of him, now she focused on his possession of her. => intimacy with the Lord has grown

From NetBible Jeremiah 31:3
“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness{unfailing love, mercy} I have drawn you”.
From NetBible Isaiah 43:1, Isaiah 43:4
“Fear not, I have redeemed you; I call you by name,
you are Mine!” …
Since you are precious and special{honored} in my sight,
and I love you …

  • The beasts of the field will glorify Me, The jackals and the ostriches, Because I have given waters in the wilderness And rivers in the desert, To give drink to My chosen people{elect of God}. –Isaiah 43:20
  • “They will be mine,” says the LORD Almighty, “on the day that I prepare My own treasured possession{jewels}, and I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.” –Malachi 3:17
=>Those who fear the Lord, become His treasured possession{jewels} whom He will never forget – even in time of great judgement
=>We are of greater worth to the Father than the most stunning jewels imaginable, because of the price He was willing to pay
    =the precious blood of Christ. –1Peter 1:19

From NetBible Isaiah 43:21
The people whom I formed for Myself Will declare{show forth} My praise.

  • But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light –1Peter 2:9
=>a people who have received His mercy –1Peter 2:10
