Feed My Sheep

September 19, 2017

John 21:15-17 AMPC
15 When they had eaten, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these [others do—with reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion, as one loves the Father]? He said to Him, Yes, Lord, You know that I love You [that I have deep, instinctive, personal affection for You, as for a close friend]. He said to him, Feed My lambs.
16 Again He said to him the second time, Simon, son of John, do you love Me [with reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion, as one loves the Father]? He said to Him, Yes, Lord, You know that I love You [that I have a deep, instinctive, personal affection for You, as for a close friend]. He said to him, Shepherd (tend) My sheep.
17 He said to him the third time, Simon, son of John, do you love Me [with a deep, instinctive, personal affection for Me, as for a close friend]? Peter was grieved (was saddened and hurt) that He should ask him the third time, Do you love Me? And he said to Him, Lord, You know everything; You know that I love You [that I have a deep, instinctive, personal affection for You, as for a close friend]. Jesus said to him, Feed My sheep.

Notice how this passage is about both lambs and sheep being fed. The word for feed[1006]bosko in v15 & 17 is the same, implying lambs(immature sheep) and sheep need to be fed similar food. The word for feed[4165]poimaino in v16 is a little different, adding the idea that sheep need to be governed by a shepherd. …

Interesting how preaching the kingdom, the whole counsel of God, the undistorted truth and feeding/shepherding the flock is related in Acts 20. …

Acts 20:25-31Now I[Paul] know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will ever see me again. 26 Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of any of you. 27 For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will(counsel) of God. 28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of/feed[4165]poimaino  the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. 29 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. 30 Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. 31 So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.
Trust in the LORD and do good(what is right)
Feed on His faithfulness = Truth
Ps 37:3
His word is TruthJn 17:17
Seed for the sower
Bread for the eater
Undistorted Truth = Protection from savage wolves
His word sent forth will not return void!

Psalm 37:3 AMPC … Trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) in the Lord and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on His faithfulness, and truly you shall be fed.
Isaiah 55:10-11For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; 11 So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.

Trust in the LORD&Feed on His faithfulness=TRUTH-Seed for the sower-Bread for the eater-Undistorted TRUTH=Protection
Preach the kingdom-The undistorted TRUTH-The word of God=>Food & protection for His flock-The sheep of His pasture!

The Shepherd’s Eye

February 27, 2010

Proverbs 15:3
The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.

1 Peter 5:1-4 AMP
I WARN and counsel the elders among you (the pastors and spiritual guides of the church) as a fellow elder and as an eyewitness [called to testify] of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a sharer in the glory (the honor and splendor) that is to be revealed (disclosed, unfolded): Tend (nurture, guard, guide, and fold) the flock of God that is [your responsibility], not by coercion or constraint, but willingly; not dishonorably motivated by the advantages and profits [belonging to the office], but eagerly and cheerfully; Not domineering [as arrogant, dictatorial, and overbearing persons] over those in your charge, but being examples (patterns and models of Christian living) to the flock (the congregation). And [then] when the Chief Shepherd is revealed, you will win the conqueror’s crown of glory.

Zechariah 11:4-5, 15-17
Thus says the LORD my God, “Feed the flock for slaughter, whose owners slaughter them and feel no guilt; those who sell them say, ‘Blessed be the LORD, for I am rich’; and their shepherds do not pity them. … And the LORD said to me, “Next, take for yourself the implements of a foolish shepherd. For indeed I will raise up a shepherd in the land who will not care for those who are cut off, nor seek the young, nor heal those that are broken, nor feed those that still stand. But he will eat the flesh of the fat and tear their hooves in pieces. Woe to the *idol shepherd, who leaves the flock! A sword shall be upon his arm and upon his right eye; his arm shall completely wither, and his right eye shall be totally blinded.

The eye and arm of the idol shepherd recieves judgment because the main activities of a shepherd are to watch over and guide the flock. A shepherd with no arm to guide nor eye to see is no shepherd at all. Idol[0457] in the above verse means something worthless(particularly as an object of worship). Shepherd[07473] comes from a word[07462] which means to pasture, tend, graze, feed.

How appropriate that the sword is the judgement upon the eye of the idol shepherd! It’s the delusion sent by the Lord to those who refused to love the truth.

Ephesians 6:17
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

2 Thessalonians 2:9-12
The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they refused to love the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who refused the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Matthew 6:22-23 NKJV
The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good{single}, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

Matthew 6:22-23 NLT
Your eye is a lamp for your body. A pure eye lets sunshine into your soul. But an evil eye shuts out the light and plunges you into darkness. If the light you think you have is really darkness, how deep that darkness will be!

The Shepherd’s Eye
The Good Shepherd The Idol Shepherd
The eyes of the LORD are toward the righteous and His ears are open to their cry. -Ps 34:15 Woe to the idol shepherd, who leaves the flock! A sword shall be upon his arm and upon his right eye; his arm shall completely wither, and his right eye shall be totally blinded. -Zech 11:17
For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil. -1 Pe 3:12 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. … Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived.-Rev 13:3, 11-14
The eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His. – 2 Chron 16:9 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. -2 Tim 4:3-4
Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His mercy. -Ps 33:18 Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. You are of you father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. -Jn 8:43-44
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments; His praise endures forever. -Ps 111:10 Transgression speaks to the ungodly within his heart; There is no fear of God before his eyes. -Ps 36:1
Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine. … Because you are precious in My sight and honored, and because I love you … – Isa 43:1,4 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who listens to counsel is wise. -Prov 12:15
He will not let your foot slip— He who watches over you will not slumber … The LORD will keep you from all harm— He will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. -Ps 121:3,7-8 He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the lowly. -Lk 1:51-52
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. -Ps 32:8 He who trusts in his own heart is a fool. But he who walks wisely will be delivered. -Prov 28:26

Hebrews 13:20-21 (NKJV)
May the God of peace … the great Shepherd of the sheep … make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
