Proverbs 4:20-23 AMPC …My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart. 22 For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh. 23 Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.

    • Keep my commands and you will live; guard{obey} my teachings as the apple of your eye{most prized possession. }. –Pro 7:2
    • The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. –Ps 19:8
    • The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear{true, single focus, healthy}, your whole body will be full of light. 23 but if your eye is unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! –Mt 6:22-23

Guard Your Heart – Above All

January 21, 2016

James seems to know that there is a connection between what flows from the mouth and the heart.

James 1:26 NKJV … If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.

James 3:10-12 NKJV … Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. 11 Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? 12 Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.

The mouth speaks{flows} from what fills the heart  …

Luke 6:45 NLT … A good person produces good deeds from a good heart, and an evil person produces evil deeds from an evil heart. Whatever is in your heart determines what you say.

Matthew 15:18 NKJV … But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.

Above all that you guard
Keep and diligently guard your heart
For out of it flow the springs of life … –
Pro 4:23

Ps19_14

.

Psalm 19:14 AMPC … Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable{pleasing} in Your sight, O Lord, my [firm, impenetrable] Rock and my Redeemer.

Guard My Heart & Words

August 26, 2015

Proverbs 18:21 AMP
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].

Death and life are in the power of the tongue
A harvest is reaped from one’s speech
Death or life
Good or evil.

The fruit of one’s mouth flows from what fills the heart.

Luke 6:45 AMP
45 The upright (honorable, intrinsically good) man out of the good treasure [stored] in his heart produces what is upright (honorable and intrinsically good), and the evil man out of the evil storehouse brings forth that which is depraved (wicked and intrinsically evil); for out of the abundance (overflow) of the heart his mouth speaks.

Above all else, keep and guard your heart
=> for from it flows not only fruit that satisfies but
=> the springs of life.

Lord, help me to guard my heart and lips that I may speak only life.

.

Proverbs 18:20-21 AMP
20 A man’s [moral] self {stomach}shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; and with the consequence of his words{harvest of his lips} he must be satisfied [whether good or evil].
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].

From NetBible Prov 18:20

  • * Two images are used in this proverb: the fruit of the mouth and the harvest of the lips. They are synonymous; the first is applied to the orchard and the second to the field. The “mouth” and the “lips” are metonymies of cause, and so both lines are speaking about speech that is productive.
  • * “A man’s moral self” = This is rendered “his stomach” because of the use of שָׂבַע (sava’, “to be satisfied; to be sated; to be filled”), which is usually used with food (cf. KJV, ASV “belly”).

=> Productive speech is not just satisfying – it meets the basic needs of life. There is a practical return for beneficial words.

Proverbs 4:23 AMP
23 Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.

From NetBible Prov 4:23

  • NET … Guard your heart with all vigilance,  for from it are the sources of life.
  • NKJV … Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.
  • BBE … And keep watch over your heart with all care; so you will have life.
  • NLT … Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do.

Guard Your Heart

June 4, 2014

Proverbs 4:23 AMP
23 Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.

Why do we need to guard our hearts so carefully? Why is this so important?

.
Proverbs 4:23 NLT
23 Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do.

Proverbs 23:7 AMP
7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. …

1 Samuel 16:7 AMP
7 But the Lord said to Samuel, Look not on his appearance or at the height of his stature, for I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.

Quote from —D. De Haan
Think not alone of outward form;
Its beauty will depart;
But cultivate the Spirit’s fruits
That grow within the heart. —D. De Haan

Galatians 5:22-23 AMP
22 But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness,
23 Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge].

.

Psalm 119:9-11 NIV
9 How can a young person stay on the path of purity?
By living according to Your word.
10 I seek You with all my heart;
do not let me stray from Your commands.
11 I have hidden Your word in my heart
that I might not sin against You.

Lord Jesus, help us hide Your word in our hearts. Thank You that as we wholeheartedly do this – our hearts will be guarded showing the fruits of Your Holy Spirit. Help our hearts to continue to grow in You.

To the Thirsty

March 10, 2010

WAIT and listen, everyone who is thirsty! Come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Yes, come, buy [priceless, spiritual] wine and milk without money and without price [simply for the self-surrender that accepts the blessing]. -Isa 55:1

The invitaion is to the thirsty, to come to the waters. To come, buy and eat — to buy with no money. What is being bought and eaten?

Buy the truth and sell it not; not only that, but also get discernment and judgment, instruction and understanding. -Prov 23:23

Diligently seek the truth as one would seek hidden treasure -Mt 13:44;Prov 2:1-5

I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. -Jn 14:6

Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. -Jn 17:17

And He [further] said to me, It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I [Myself] will give water without price from the fountain (springs) of the water of Life. -Rev 21:6

Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your earnings for what does not satisfy? Hearken diligently to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness [the profuseness of spiritual joy]. -Isa 55:2

The invitation is to the thirsty, the hungry  – but it does not say to eat and drink whatever is set before you. EAT ONLY WHAT IS GOOD, only what the Lord Jesus Christ sets before you Himself!

You must distinguish[to divide; separate, discriminate, differ, select, set apart] between the holy[apartness, holiness, sacredness, separateness] and the common[unholy, profane, common, sand], between the unclean[ethically and religiously impure] and the clean[pure physically; clean morally, ethically] … -Lev 10:10

Do not labor for food that perishes! Seek the bread of heaven, the one true bread, Jesus the bread of life. Keep His commandments and live. Guard His teachings as the apple of your eye, as your most prized possession. -Prov 7:2

Guard your heart, eat only what is good, for from it flow the springs of life.

John 6:24-35 So when the people saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats and went to Caper’na-um, seeking Jesus. 25 When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?” 26 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, YOU SEEK ME, NOT BECAUSE YOU SAW THE SIGNS, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. 27 Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of man will give to you; for on him has God the Father set his seal.” 28 Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” 29 Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” 30 So they said to him, “THEN WHAT SIGN DO YOU DO, THAT WE MAY SEE  AND BELIEVE YOU? What work do you perform? 31 Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, `HE GAVE THEM BREAD FROM HEAVEN TO EAT.’” 32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven, and gives life to the world.” 34 They said to him, “LORD, GIVE US THIS BREAD ALWAYS.” 35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst.

Matthew 4:3-4 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’

Proverbs 4:20-23 My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to the whole body. Above all else, guard your heart, for from it flow the springs of life.

***

Notice John 6 — what Jesus told those seeking a sign. Power, miracles & signs and wonders will not be ‘THE SIGN’. True bread is the sign.

“Lord, give us this bread always.”
