God never made a promise that was too good to be true! –Dwight L. Moody

Numbers 23:19 AMP … God is not a man, that He should tell or act a lie, neither the son of man, that He should feel repentance or compunction [for what He has promised]. Has He said and shall He not do it? Or has He spoken and shall He not make it good?

Psalm 138:2 NLT … I bow before Your holy Temple as I worship. I will give thanks to Your name for Your unfailing love and faithfulness, because Your promises are backed by all the honor of Your name.

Faith is believing and trusting that God’s promises are true.

Hebrews 10:23, 35-38 (NLT)   Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promise. … So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord, no matter what happens. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that He has promised. For in just a little while, the Coming One will come and not delay. And a righteous person will live by faith. But I will have no pleasure in anyone who turns away.

Be joyful, expectant in hope
Be glad for all God is planning for you
Persevere in trouble
Be patient
Persist in prayer.

Faith For Things Unseen

November 28, 2013

Hebrews 11:1 AMP … Now faith is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].

Hebrews 11:1 NKJV … Now faith is the *substance[5287] of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Faith is the firm foundation of our hope
All we’ve seen of God’s provision
Teaches us to trust Him and have faith for things unseen!

The Son is the exact nature/substance of God
Faith in Jesus Christ is the substance/firm foundation of our hope!

Hebrews 11:6 AMP … But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out].

Hebrews 3:14 … For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance{substance[5287]} firm until the end …

Hebrews 10:22-25 AMP
22 Let us all come forward and draw near with true (honest and sincere) hearts in unqualified assurance and absolute conviction engendered by faith (by that leaning of the entire human personality on God in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness), having our hearts sprinkled and purified from a guilty (evil) conscience and our bodies cleansed with pure water.

23 So let us seize and hold fast and retain without wavering the hope we cherish and confess and our acknowledgement of it, for He Who promised is reliable (sure) and faithful to His word.

24 And let us consider and give attentive, continuous care to watching over one another, studying how we may stir up (stimulate and incite) to love and helpful deeds and noble activities,

25 Not forsaking or neglecting to assemble together [as believers], as is the habit of some people, but admonishing (warning, urging, and encouraging) one another, and all the more faithfully as you see the day approaching.

Hold fast the substance of our faith in Jesus Christ until the end!

Word Study.

From Netbibe: Heb 11:1

  • substance[5287] = a setting or placing under, firm foundation, confidence, firm trust, assurance
*from a compound of [5259] = place under
and [2476] = make to stand, firm, fixed, established on sound foundation

From Vine’s Expository Dictionary

  • [5287] is translated “substance”
    (a) in Hebrews 1:3, of Christ as “the very image” of God’s “substance;” here the word has the meaning of the real nature of that to which reference is made in contrast to the outward manifestation (See the preceding clause); it speaks of the Divine essence of God existent and expressed in the revelation of His Son. The AV, “person” is an anachronism; the word was not so rendered till the 4th cent. Most of the earlier Eng. versions have “substance;”
    (b) in Hebrews 11:1 it has the meaning of “confidence, assurance” (RV), marg., “the giving substance to,” AV, “substance,” something that could not equally be expressed by elpis, “hope.”

From Netbibe: Heb 1:3
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature{substance[5287]}, and upholds all things by the word of His power. …

  • The Son, Jesus Christ is the exact nature/substance of God

From Netbibe: Heb 3:14
For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance{substance[5287]} firm until the end …

  • Hold fast the substance of our faith until the end

Hope Rises Midst the Darkness

November 9, 2009

I seem to have had a pretty ‘dark’ week. BUT  … the Lord encouraged me with an image to make, ‘Heb 10:35-37’ and the idea that it’s during this darkness that hope is born and rises. It’s during these dark times especially that He pours out His love refining our faith which is more precious than gold.

So look beyond the darkness!

For it’s during the darkest part of the night that the morning star appears, before the glory on the wings of dawn. As surely as we see the morning star arise, we will see the dawn. The morning star is never far from the rising sun.

For those who revere His Holy name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. — Mal 4:2

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.” … To him who overcomes and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations— ‘He will rule them with an iron scepter; he will dash them to pieces like pottery’— just as I have received authority from my Father. I will also give him the morning star. –Rev 2:16, 26-28

To him who overcomes, an unspeakable brightness, joy and peace is given.

Dominion in Jesus Christ our Lord, the bright Morning Star.

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. -Rom 15:13

Romans 8:23-25     And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body. For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, with *perseverance{patience} we wait eagerly for it.

Hebrews 10:35-37    So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. *Patient endurance is what you need now, so you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that He has promised. FOR YET IN A VERY LITTLE WHILE, HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME, AND WILL NOT DELAY.

From: Netbible Heb 10:36 & Netbible Rom 8:25
*patient endurance – hupomone [5281]
1) steadfastness, constancy, endurance
1a) in the NT the characteristic of a man who is not swerved from
his deliberate purpose and his loyalty to faith and piety by
even the greatest trials and sufferings
1b) patiently, and steadfastly
2) a patient, steadfast waiting for
3) a patient enduring, sustaining, perseverance

Romans 5:1-5 AMP THEREFORE, SINCE we are justified (acquitted, declared righteous, and given a right standing with God) through faith, let us [grasp the fact that we] have [the peace of reconciliation to hold and to enjoy] peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
2Through Him also we have [our] access (entrance, introduction) by faith into this grace (state of God’s favor) in which we [firmly and safely] stand. And let us rejoice and exult in our hope of experiencing and enjoying the glory of God.
3Moreover [let us also be full of joy now!] let us exult and triumph in our troubles and rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that pressure and affliction and hardship produce patient and unswerving endurance.
4And endurance (fortitude) develops maturity of character (approved faith and tried integrity). And character [of this sort] produces [the habit of] joyful and confident hope of eternal salvation.
5Such hope never disappoints or deludes or shames us, for God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.

Hope Poured Out – HOLD FAST!

November 8, 2009

Midst the darkness
HOLD FAST!

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; -Heb 10:23

Hope begins in the dark
In things yet unseen.

Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. -Heb 11:1 NLT

So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord
No matter what — Do not give up — HOLD FAST the promises
Remain steadfast, persevere and eagerly expectantly wait
For all the promises to you are true. -Num 23:19

This type of hope in the LORD NEVER disappoints!
For midst the darkness His love is poured out
Refining and sustaining a faith more precious than gold
A great treasure in a jar of clay
A glory that is about to be revealed
As surely as the rising sun breaks forth causing darkness to flee
HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME!

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time (this present life) are not worth being compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us and in us and for us and conferred on us! -Rom 8:18 AMP

We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. … That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. -2 Cor 4:7, 16-18 NLT

Stir Up Your Heart

July 18, 2009

Someone noticed the coldness of the winter season in this picture and related it to hearts growing cold as the day of the Lord approaches. I wasn’t even noticing the coldness when I made this — I was actually thinking about being in the desert with no water. The Lord really encouraged me that I would make it thru this season. For the sparrow the winter season seems the hardest. I was thinking about the lack of food & water, but growing cold is just as dangerous!

Matthew 24:11-13    Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.

As the darkness increases so too will the coldness of hearts
Do not fear this increasing coldness
Do not fear being swallowed up by this darkness
Hold fast
Refuse to allow the coldness of the season to dampen your desire
… to fulfill your calling
Remember your first love
Stir up the flames of hope in your heart
The flame of hope that pierces the night
Keep the flame burning, hold on to God’s promises, hold on tight
For we know it’s at this darkest moment that
… the bright morning star comes into sight!
When the enemy comes in like a flood
The Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him
And put him to flight. -Isa 59:19

Hebrews 10:23-25    Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

Faith – Hold Fast!

February 19, 2009

A mighty oak tree comes from a little nut who holds its ground!

Though your beginning was small, yet your latter end would increase abundantly. -Job 8:7 NKJV

Do not despise small beginnings
Do not despair at the mighty mountain of obstacles before you.

Let every valley be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; And let the rough ground become a plain, and the rugged terrain a broad valley; Then the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all flesh will see it together; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.
-Isa 40:4-5

The mountain before you will be flattened by the LORD’s hand
For its not by power nor by might but by My Spirit
… declares the LORD.
The foundation has been laid
It will be completed and perfected
… by the author and finisher of your faith
Stand firm in full assurance on the foundation of your faith
The *substance of things hoped for,
… the evidence of things not seen
Hold fast! He who promised is faithful.

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. -Heb 10:22-25

Zech 4:6-10 NLT   Then he said to me, “This is what the LORD says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the LORD Almighty. Nothing, not even a mighty mountain, will stand in Zerubbabel’s way; it will flatten out before him! Then Zerubbabel will set the final stone of the Temple in place, and the people will shout: “May God bless it! May God bless it”. Then another message came to me from the LORD: “Zerubbabel is the one who laid the foundation of this Temple, and he will complete it. Then you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me. Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand. For these seven lamps represent the eyes of the LORD that search all around the world.”

Hebrews 11:1    Now faith is the *substance[5287] of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
