Lift Your Heart in Praise

September 27, 2019

Psalm 42:11 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
11 Why are you cast down, O my inner self? And why should you moan over me and be disquieted within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him, Who is the help of my countenance, and my God.
.

From ODB – Look Up
“Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God” (Ps 42:11). That’s good advice for anyone who is facing discouragement.
.
Lift up your eyes, discouraged one,
The Lord your help will be;
New strength will come from Him who said,
“For rest, come unto Me.” —Anon.
.
When you can’t find a way out, look up!

.
The best way to “Look Up!” is to “Lift Your Heart in Praise!”

God Will Make A Way

March 18, 2012

You may be enclosed in darkness right now
Unable to see a way forward.

Do not despair
BELIEVE
That you will see the goodness of the Lord
In the land of the living! -Ps 27:13

Take heart, don’t quit
Be brave and of good courage
And He will strengthen your heart
Wait, hope for and expect the Lord.
-Ps 27:14

God makes a way where there is no way!

Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear, revere, and worship You, goodness which You have wrought for those who trust and take refuge in You before the sons of men! -Ps 31:19 AMP

Oh, send out Your light and Your truth!
Let them lead me;
Let them bring me to Your holy hill
And to Your tabernacle.
Then I will go to the altar of God,
To God my exceeding joy;
And on the harp I will praise You,
O God, my God.

Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God;
For I shall yet praise Him,
The help of my countenance and my God.

-Ps 43:3-5;Ps 42:11

I Shall Yet Praise Him

January 26, 2011

Psalm 42:5 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him for the help of His countenance.

Last sunday during worship my heart was singing:

Praise You Lord Jesus for the help of Your countenance, for the light of Your face, for Your smile!

I knew it was from the above scripture. For the Lord showed me in the past the connection between His countenance, the light of His face, His favor and His smile.

Psalm 44:3 For by their own sword they did not possess the land, and their own arm did not save them, but Your right hand and Your arm and the light of Your presence, for You favored them, and smiled upon them.

Psalm 89:15 Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim You, who walk in the light of Your presence{face}, O LORD.

What I didn’t notice until just today when I looked this up again was that Psalm 42:11 & Psalm 43:5 were similar but not exactly the same as Psalm 42:5.

Psalm 42:11, 43:5 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God.

Did you see the difference? Instead of praising Him for the help of His countenance – His smile, it’s ‘my’ countenance! It’s as if the Lord’s antidote to a downcast soul is to start praising Him for the help of His face, presence, favor, smile. Try it and see if it doesn’t help your countenance. This really put a smile on my face!

Psalm 34:5 Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.

Praise You Lord Jesus for the help of Your countenance, for the light of Your face, for Your smile! Praise You Lord Jesus for the help of ‘my’ countenance, ‘my’ smile!

Word Study

From Netbible Psalm 42:5
countenance[06440] = face, presence
help[03444] = saving intervention, victory

From Netbible Psalm 44:3 & Netbible Psalm 89:15
*“light of your face.” The idiom “light of your face” probably refers to a smile (see Eccl 8:1), which in turn suggests favor and blessing (see Num 6:25Pss 4:6; 31:16; 44:3; 67:1; 80:3, 7, 19; 89:15Dan 9:17).
