Luke 12:35-37 AMPC … Keep your loins girded and your lamps burning, 36 And be like men who are waiting for their master to return home from the marriage feast, so that when he returns from the wedding and comes and knocks, they may open to him immediately. 37 Blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are those servants whom the master finds awake and alert and watching when he comes. Truly I say to you, he will gird himself and have them recline at table and will come and serve them!

Isaiah 50:4 AMPC … [The Servant of God says] The Lord God has given Me the tongue of a disciple and of one who is taught, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary. He wakens Me morning by morning, He wakens My ear to hear as a disciple [as one who is taught].

  • wakens[05782] = rouses, to be triumphant
    – from primitive root (rather identical with [05783] through the idea of opening the eyes)
  • to hear[08085] = listen(attentively) to obey, to perceive(intelligently) by ear

Bow Your Ear

August 24, 2013

Isaiah 50:4The Sovereign LORD has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught.

From NetBible Isa 50:4

  • learned[03928] = taught, discipled, instructed
  • wakens[05782] = rouses, to be triumphant
    – from primitive root (rather identical with [05783] through the idea of opening the eyes)
  • to hear[08085] = listen(attentively) to obey, to perceive(intelligently) by ear

This sounds very similar to the instruction to bow your ear.

Bow your ear to hear and apply wisdom

From: Bow Your Ear{prayer}

Proverbs 5:1-2 AMP … My son, be attentive to my Wisdom [godly Wisdom learned by actual and costly experience], and incline your ear to my understanding [of what is becoming and prudent for you] … That you may exercise proper discrimination and discretion and your lips may guard and keep knowledge and the wise answer [to temptation].
KJV … bow thine ear

  • Bow your ear is the opposite of listening without application.
  • Bow you ear, humbly desire to hear and apply wisdom
–> so that you may act with foresight & speak with insight!

Listening ears, ears that are bowed towards the Lord:

  • Listen like one being taught, discipled
  • Humbly desire to hear and apply the wisdom they hear
  • Intelligently perceive – eyes are opened
  • Yield an instructed tongue
  • Yield a word that sustains the weary

Proverbs 15:23 AMP … A man has joy in making an apt answer, and a word spoken at the right moment—how good it is!

Proverbs 22:17-19 AMP … Listen (consent and submit){Bow your ear} to the words of the wise, and apply your mind to my knowledge; For it will be pleasant{pleasing} if you keep them in your mind [believing them]; your lips will be accustomed to [confessing] them. So that your trust (belief, reliance, support, and confidence) may be in the Lord, I have made known these things to you today, even to you.

Proverbs 25:11-12 AMP … A word fitly spoken and in due season is like apples of gold in settings of silver. Like an earring or nose ring of gold or an ornament of fine gold is a wise reprover to an ear that listens and obeys.
