Many Mansions

January 2, 2014

John 14:2In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so , I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

From NetBible Jn 14:2

  • mansions[3438] = dwelling place, abode
    * to make an (one’s) abode
    * metaph. of the God the Holy Spirit indwelling believers
    *from Greek[3306] = residence

John 15:4-5Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.

From NetBible Jn 15:4

John 14:6,23-24Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. … Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me”.

From NetBible Jn 14:23

  • home[3438] = dwelling place, abode
    * to make an (one’s) abode
    * metaph. of the God the Holy Spirit indwelling believers
    *from Greek[3306] = residence

==> It’s interesting to note the strongs word for abide in the above Jn 15 scripture is the verb form of the words for “many mansions” and “home” found in Jn 14.

==> In Rev 21, the residence noun and verb are different from the above – yet the same idea is present – of  the Father and Son making a home – this time it’s brand new!

Revelation 21:1-5 … Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea.2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them,4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.”

5 And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He *said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.”

From NetBible Rev 21:3

  • tabernacle[4633] = dwelling place, residence, habitation
  • dwell[4637] = reside, abide, take up residence
