Lavished Grace Upon Grace

February 27, 2020

1 John 3:1-3 … Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed{lavished} on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
From the song in the previous post the phrases “the riches of His grace” and the word “lavished” were impressed on my heart. This leads to Ephesians 1:7-8.
Ephesians 1:7-8 … In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and insight …

  • From NetBible Eph 1:8
lavish[4052] = to have in abundance, abounding
**”Abounding” is used of a flower going from a bud to full bloom.
  • From NetBible Jn 1:16
From His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace.

=>grace “on top of” grace, = accumulation
=> probably based on this verse: Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You{reveal, teach} and that I may find grace in Your sight{eyes} Ex 33:13

The riches of His grace, grace upon grace is an ongoing process lavished on us in abundance! This causes us to mature and grow more and more like Him; much like the process of a bud growing to a full blooming flower as it receives sunlight!

The following prayer takes on deeper meaning!!
Philippians 1:9-11 … And this I pray, that your love may abound[4052] still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ; 11 having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

  • From NetBible Phil 1:9
abound[4052] = to have in abundance, abounding, lavish
**”Abounding” is used of a flower going from a bud to full bloom.
  • From NetBible Phil 1:10
sincere[1506] = found pure when unfolded and examined by the sun’s light, tested as genuine, unspotted
*from heile (the sun’s ray) and 2919; judged by sunlight, i.e. tested as genuine (figuratively):-pure, sincere.
  • What a beautiful picture of a sincere pure heart! The heart of one with a “sincere” devotion to the Lord will be found pure when examined and judged by the Son, the light of the world. It will be a heart that has willingly submitted to Lord’s searching and cleansing of the “Son/sun”. A heart the will grow; much like a bud growing to a full blooming flower in the sunlight!

John 15:4-5 AMPC … Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you. [Live in Me, and I will live in you.] Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (being vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me. 5 I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.

  26. John 15:14-21 You are My friends if you do what I command you. 15 No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you. 17 This I command you, that you love one another.
8 “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also. 21 But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know the One who sent Me.

  27. 1 John 3:1-5See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
4 Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. 5 You know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin.

  28. 1Corinthians 13:1-7 AMP … If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love [for others growing out of God’s love for me], then I have become only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal [just an annoying distraction]. 2 And if I have the gift of prophecy [and speak a new message from God to the people], and understand all mysteries, and [possess] all knowledge; and if I have all [sufficient] faith so that I can remove mountains, but do not have love [reaching out to others], I am nothing. 3 If I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it does me no good at all. 4 Love endures with patience and serenity, love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious; love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant. 5 It is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not provoked [nor overly sensitive and easily angered]; it does not take into account a wrong endured. 6 It does not rejoice at injustice, but rejoices with the truth [when right and truth prevail]. 7 Love bears all things [regardless of what comes], believes all things [looking for the best in each one], hopes all things [remaining steadfast during difficult times], endures all things [without weakening].

  29. 1Corinthians 13:8-13 AMP … Love never fails [it never fades nor ends]. But as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for the gift of special knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part [for our knowledge is fragmentary and incomplete]. 10 But when that which is complete and perfect comes, that which is incomplete and partial will pass away. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. 12 For now [in this time of imperfection] we see in a mirror dimly [a blurred reflection, a riddle, an enigma], but then [when the time of perfection comes we will see reality] face to face. Now I know in part [just in fragments], but then I will know fully, just as I have been fully known [by God]. 13 And now there remain: faith [abiding trust in God and His promises], hope [confident expectation of eternal salvation], love [unselfish love for others growing out of God’s love for me], these three [the choicest graces]; but the greatest of these is love.
    The Lord’s love NEVER fails1Cor 13:8
Never comes to an end!1Cor 13:13
    Abide in His love
=>Your joy will be made full and complete!Jn 15:9-11
  30. Romans 12:9-18 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; 11 not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, 13 contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality.
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. 17 Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.

    Sincere love = both turning, separating from evil{hate evil} and clinging to good{fix your mind on good}
=>Never pay back evil for evil – Bless and do not curse
=>If possible be at peace with everyone!

    Sincere Love
  31. Psalm 136:1-13

  1. 1Corinthians 16:13-14 … Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, show courage, be strong! Let all that you do be done in love! #BeStrong
