Rise up O LORD!
Let Your enemies be scattered
Let those who hate You flee before Your face!

So it was, whenever the ark set out, that Moses said: “Rise up, O LORD! Let Your enemies be scattered, And let those who hate You flee before You.” -Num10:35

As smoke is scattered, Lord You drive them away!
As wax melts before the fire, Lord they melt before Your face!

Let God arise, Let His enemies be scattered; Let those also who hate Him flee before Him. As smoke is driven away, So drive them away; As wax melts before the fire, So let the wicked perish at the presence of God. -Ps68:1-2

Remember, O LORD, the reproach of Your servants
How they have mocked, taunted and scorned

Remember, Lord, and earnestly imprint [on Your heart] the reproach of Your servants, scorned and insulted, how I bear in my bosom the reproach of all the many and mighty peoples; With which Your enemies have taunted, O Lord, with which they have mocked the footsteps of Your anointed. -Ps89:50-51 AMP

Rise up O LORD!
Rise to my defense
Vindicate me!

Stir up Yourself, and awake to my vindication, To my cause, my God and my Lord. -Ps35:23

Deuteronomy 28:7 NKJV … The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.

  • *The wording of v. 1 echoes the prayer in Num 10:35: “Spring into action, Lord! Then your enemies will be scattered and your adversaries will run from you.” – as smoke is scattered, you scatter [them].

From Psa 35:23

  • Stir up Yourself[05782] = rouse, awake, incite, open your eyes
  • * Though he is confident that the Lord is aware of his situation (see v. 22a), the psalmist compares the Lord’s inactivity to sleep and urges him to wake up.
