Isaiah 30:15 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
15 For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: In returning [to Me] and resting [in Me] you shall be saved; in quietness and in [trusting] confidence shall be your strength. But you would not.
.
From NetBible Isa 30:15
This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance{returning} and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust{confidence} is your strength, but you were not willing”.

  • rest[05183] = quiet attitude, peace, patiently wait
  • quietness[08252] = be tranquil, be at peace, rest,  be undisturbed
  • trust[0985] = confidence

Isaiah 30:18 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
18 And therefore the Lord [earnestly] waits [expecting, looking, and longing] to be gracious to you; and therefore He lifts Himself up, that He may have mercy on you and show loving-kindness to you. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are all those who [earnestly] wait for Him, who expect and look and long for Him [for His victory, His favor, His love, His peace, His joy, and His matchless, unbroken companionship]!

.

From NetBible Isa 30:18
Therefore the LORD longs to be gracious to you; He rises to show you His mercy{compassion}. For the LORD is a God of righteousness{justice}; Blessed are all those who wait for{hope in} Him.

  • * The point seems to be that Judah’s impending doom does not bring God joy. Rather the prospect of their suffering stirs within him a willingness to show mercy and compassion, if they are willing to seek him on his terms.
  • gracious[02603] = show favor, to have mercy on
  • mercy[07355] = love deeply, show compassion

.
Psalm 86:5 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
5 For You, O Lord, are good, and ready to forgive [our trespasses, sending them away, letting them go completely and forever]; and You are abundant in mercy and loving-kindness to all those who call upon You.

15 For the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel has said this,
“In returning [to Me] and rest you shall be saved,
In quietness and confident trust is your strength.”
But you were not willing …
… 18 Therefore the Lord waits [expectantly] and longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you. For the Lord is a God of justice; Blessed (happy, fortunate) are all those who long for Him [since He will never fail them].

Lamentations 3:21-24 AMPC
21 But this I recall and therefore have I hope and expectation:

NLT … Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this:

22 It is because of the Lord’s mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His [tender] compassions fail not.

The LORD’S loving kindnesses{mercies} indeed never cease{we are kept from complete destruction – not consumed}, For His compassions never fail.

23 They are new every morning; great and abundant is Your stability and faithfulness.

Great is his faithfulness; His mercies begin{are created} afresh each day.

24 The Lord is my portion or share, says my living being (my inner self); therefore will I hope in Him and wait expectantly for Him.

A Song:
Mercies new
Mercies new
Sweet as honey –Ps 19:10,119:103
Taste afresh and see –Ps 19:8,34:8;1Sa 14:29
Life renewed –Ps 103:1-5
Mercies new
By His faithfulness
We are not consumed.

Psalm 103:17 AMPC … The mercy and lovingkindness of the Lord are from everlasting to everlasting upon those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him.

A Prayer:
Be merciful and gracious to me, O LORD, for my soul takes refuge and finds shelter and confidence in You; in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge and confidently trust. –Ps 57:1

Gracious – Righteous – Compassionate = The Lord!

April 3, 2016

Psalm116_5
Image from 365promises

Psalm 116:5 AMP … Gracious is the Lord, and [consistently] righteous; Yes, our God is compassionate{full of mercy}.

Call upon the Lord in faith –He 11:6
Use the faith you have{mustard seed} –Lk 17:6

Believe He will answer
On the basis of His nature/name.

The Lord is gracious –Ps 86:5,15
The Lord is righteous –Ps 119:137,145:17;Jer 12:1
The Lord is compassionate{full of mercy}.

Exodus 34:6-9 NASB … Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth. 7 who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.” 8 Moses made haste to bow low toward the earth and worship. 9 He said, “If now I have found favor in Your sight, O Lord, I pray, let the Lord go along in our midst, even though the people are so obstinate, and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us as Your own possession.”

Hebrews 4:16 NASB … Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

From Godvine
Barnes’ Notes on Psalms 116:5
.
Gracious is the Lord – This fact was his encouragement when he called on God. He believed that God was a gracious Being, and he found him to be so. Compare the notes at Hebrews 11:6.
.
And righteous … – Just; true; faithful. This, too, is a proper foundation of appeal to God: not that we are righteous, and have a claim to his favor, but that he is a Being who will do what is right; that is, what is best to be done in the case. If he were an unjust Being; if he were one on whose stability of character, and whose regard for right, no reliance could be placed, we could never approach him with confidence or hope. In this sense we may rely on his justice – his justness of character – as a ground of hope. Compare the notes at 1 John 1:9 : “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.”

Quiet Confidence

April 2, 2014

Isaiah 30:15-16 AMP
15 For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: In returning [to Me] and resting [in Me] you shall be saved; in quietness and in [trusting] confidence shall be your strength. But you would not …

Look at the context of this verse. This message is directed at Israel during one of their rebellions against God. God issues this warning that they can only be saved by returning to Him. This warning still applies today. We cannot hope to be saved without returning back to God.

The interesting part of this verse is the part about rest. Look closely at what resting in the Lord is, it’s not passive – waiting around for the Lord to do something! It’s quiet confidence in Him. When we are truly trusting in the Lord’s ability to rescue us, we find peace and strength. This rest comes from knowing that He is in control and capable of saving us from even the darkest of places. Yet, as the last phrase says, our pride often makes us unwilling.

Faith and Strength

Isaiah 40:31 AMP … But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.

Isaiah 64:4 AMP … For from of old no one has heard nor perceived by the ear, nor has the eye seen a God besides You, Who works and shows Himself active on behalf of him who [earnestly] waits for Him.

Trust in the Lord to equip you and strengthen you to do what He has called you to do
AND wait upon Him to do the rest
Wait for Him to do what only He can do!

Jeremiah 32:17 AMP … Alas, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! There is nothing too hard or too wonderful for You—

Isaiah 30:18 AMP … And therefore the Lord [earnestly] waits [expecting, looking, and longing] to be gracious to you; and therefore He lifts Himself up{rises up}, that He may have mercy on you and show loving-kindness to you. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are all those who [earnestly] wait for Him, who expect and look and long for Him [for His victory, His favor, His love, His peace, His joy, and His matchless, unbroken companionship]!

Proclaim the Name of the LORD

May 13, 2010

Exodus 33:18-19 Then Moses said, “I pray You, show me Your glory!”
19Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion{show mercy} on whom I will have compassion{show mercy}.”

Exodus 34:5-7 Now the LORD descended in the cloud and stood with him{Moses} there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD. 6nd the LORD passed before him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, 7keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty , visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.

These are the LORD’s response to the cry ‘show me Your glory’! To ‘see’ His glory is to ‘see’ His great mercy, His justice, His goodness and His truth!

Proclaiming His mercy, grace, longsuffering {slow to anger}, justice, goodness, truth and forgiveness are part of proclaiming His name.

Psalm 86:15-17 You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth. 16Oh, turn to me, and have mercy on me! Give Your strength to Your servant, And save the son of Your maidservant{save me, for I am your servant}. 17Show me a sign for good{a sign of Your goodness}, That those who hate me may see it and be ashamed, Because You, LORD, have helped me and comforted me.
