Narrow is the Way

August 8, 2017

Matthew 7:13-14Enter through the narrow(straight) gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But the gate is small(straight) and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

From NetBible Mt 7:14 & 2Cor 4:8

Matthew 7:13-14Enter through the narrow(straight)t[4728] gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But the gate is small(straight)[4728] and the way is narrow[2346] that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

  • straight[4728] = narrow, small
  • narrow/hard pressed[2346] = to press (as grapes), to experience trouble, affliction, distress

.
2Corinthians 4:8, 16-17We are hard pressed[2346] on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair …
… 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our present troubles are quite small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us an immeasurably great glory that will last forever!

Courage at the Crossroads

February 8, 2016

Standing at the crossroads?
Be of good courage –
Ps 27:14
Consider your path
STAND – LOOK – ASK
LISTEN and then WALK. –
Jere 6:16

The only way to have courage at the crossroads
Is to STAND and ASK the LORD
Then listen and obey His voice alone! –Ps 118:8

STAND on His word and ASK
Then walk in the good way
With Him
Follow Him
Even if nobody else does …. ((trail blazer))

Remember the good way is narrow –Mt 7:13-14
You can’t judge the way by the crowd.

Stand – Look – Ask – Listen – Walk!

Psalm 27:14 NKJV … Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!

Psalm 118:8 AMPC … It is better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in man.

Jeremiah 6:16-17 AMPC … Thus says the Lord: Stand by the roads and look; and ask for the eternal paths, where the good, old way is; then walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk in it!
17 Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hear and obey the sound of the trumpet! But they said, We will not listen or obey.

From Netbible Jeremiah 6:16

  • NET … … You are standing at the crossroads. So consider your path. …
  • NASB … … Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, Where the good way is …

Tho He Slay Me

July 6, 2009

Job 13:15    Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him{patiently wait, hope, expect goodness}.

Where have you placed your faith? In miracles? In evidence of the Lord’s blessing? In favorable circumstance?

Unshakeable, tried faith is believing and acting obediently regardless of circumstances or contrary evidence. For we walk by faith, not by sight(2 Cor 5:7). True faith as Job’s, rests on the assurance that God is who He says He is, and that He is good ALL the time!

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. -Rom 8:28

Tho it appeared that Job lost the Lord’s favor and was out of the Lord’s grace, Job still said “Tho He slay me yet will I trust Him“.

And    “The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD.  In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong. (Job 1:21-22)”

***

Job 1:8-11   Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?”

9 So Satan answered the LORD and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing? 10 Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. 11 But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face!”

Affliction is not necessarily due to sin.
Affliction is not necessarily the Lord’s judgement.
It may be a refining or testing of faith.
Will you still believe in unfavorable circumstances?
Will you still bless the name of the Lord
… when you can’t see evidence of Him?
… when no miracles appear?
… when the Lord doesn’t answer as you expect?

These (trials) have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. -1 Pe 1:7

Job 23:11-12, 10   My feet have closely followed his steps;
I have kept to his way without turning aside.
I have not departed from the commands of his lips;
I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.
He knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.

Oswald Chambers

We have the idea that God rewards us
for our faith, it may be so in
the initial stages; but we do not
earn anything by faith, faith
brings us into right relationship with
God and gives God His opportunity. God
has frequently to knock the bottom
board out of your experience if you are
a saint in order to get you into contact
with Himself. God wants you to understand
that it is a life of faith, not a life of
sentimental enjoyment of His blessings.
Your earlier life of faith was narrow and
intense, settled around a little sun-spot of
experience that had as much of sense as of
faith in it, full of light and sweetness;
then God withdrew His conscious blessings
in order to teach you to walk by faith. You
are worth far more to Him now than
you were in your days of conscious delight
and thrilling testimony.

Faith by its very nature must be tried,
and the real trial of faith is not that
we find it difficult to trust God, but
that God’s character has to be cleared
in our own minds. Faith in its actual
working out has to go through spells of
unsyllabled isolation. Never confound the
trial of faith with the ordinary discipline
of life, much that we call the trial of
faith is the inevitable result of being alive.

Faith in the Bible is faith in God against
everything that contradicts Him – I will
remain true to God’s character whatever
He may do. “Though He slay me, yet will I
trust Him” – this is the most sublime utterance
of faith in the whole of the Bible.
