The Wheat and the Tares

April 22, 2019

Matthew 13:24-30 New King James Version (NKJV)
The Parable of the Wheat and the Tares
24 Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; 25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. 26 But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. 27 So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ 28 He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ 29 But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.” ’ ”

The Parable of the Tares Explained
36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.”

37 He answered and said to them: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one. 39 The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels. 40 Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age. 41 The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, 42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
.
What is this parable a picture of?
=>This is a picture of the kingdom of heaven and hell in the world

  • The Son of man sows the good seed in the field{world} v37-38
The sower sows the word. –Mk 4:14
The good seed produces wheat = sons of the kingdom of heaven v38
At the end of the age wheat is harvested by angles into the barn v30, 41
  • The devil sows the bad seed in the field while “men” sleep v25,39
The bad seed produces produces tares = sons of the devil v38
The Pharisees are an example of the tares = offspring of “vipers” –Mk 3:7
Beware of the leaven{bad seed} of the Pharisees
    = false teaching –Mt 16:12
    = hypocrisy –Lk 12:1
At the end of the age tares are harvested by angles and burned  v30, 41
=> all that offends{causes sin} and those who practice lawlessness v41
  • **Matthew 15:12-14 Amplified Bible (AMP) … 12 Then the disciples came and said to Jesus, “Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard you say this?” 13 He answered, “Every plant which My heavenly Father did not plant will be torn up by the roots. 14 Leave them alone; they are blind guides [leading blind followers]. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”

Who can distinguish the wheat from the tares?

  • the servants of the owner of the field v27
  • The mature wheat
  • **Matthew 7:15-16 Amplified Bible (AMP) … 15 “Beware of the false prophets, [teachers] who come to you dressed as sheep [appearing gentle and innocent], but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them [that is, by their contrived doctrine and self-focus]. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles?
**Hebrews 5:11-14 Amplified Bible (AMP) … 11 Concerning this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull and sluggish in [your spiritual] hearing and disinclined to listen. 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers [because of the time you have had to learn these truths], you actually need someone to teach you again the elementary principles of God’s word [from the beginning], and you have come to be continually in need of milk, not solid food. 13 For everyone who lives on milk is [doctrinally inexperienced and] unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a spiritual infant. 14 But solid food is for the [spiritually] mature, whose senses are trained by practice to distinguish between what is morally good and what is evil.
  • ** Mark 4:26-28 Amplified Bible (AMP) … 26 Then He said, “The kingdom of God is like a man who throws seed on the ground; 27 and he goes to bed at night and gets up every day, and [in the meantime] the seed sprouts and grows; how [it does this], he does not know. 28 The earth produces crops by itself; first the blade, then the head [of grain], then the mature grain in the head.

.
=>How determined are you to “mature” – apply the word to your sin – apply the word to teaching you hear?
=>Are you “mature” enough to gently confront sin in brothers or sisters? –Gal 6:1
=>Are you “mature” enough to recognize and confront false teaching?  –Acts 20:27-29
*Pay close attention to your life and doctrine –1Tim 4:16

Jesus Teaches in Parables

March 25, 2019

Matthew 13:10-17 New King James Version (NKJV)
The Purpose of Parables
10 And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”

11 He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. 12 For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. 13 Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. 14 And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says:

‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand,
And seeing you will see and not perceive;
15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull.
Their ears are hard of hearing,
And their eyes they have closed,
Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears,
Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,
So that I should heal them.’
16 But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; 17 for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.
.
Why did Jesus teach in Parables?

  • Mark 4:10-12, 24-25 Amplified Bible (AMP)
10 As soon as He was alone, those who were around Him, together with the twelve [disciples], began asking Him about [the interpretation of] the parables. 11 He said to them, “The mystery of the kingdom of God has been given to you [who have teachable hearts], but those who are outside [the unbelievers, the spiritually blind] get everything in parables, 12 so that they will continually look but not see, and they will continually hear but not understand, otherwise they might turn [from their rejection of the truth] and be forgiven.” …

24 Then He said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear. By your own standard of measurement [that is, to the extent that you study spiritual truth and apply godly wisdom] it will be measured to you [and you will be given even greater ability to respond]—and more will be given to you besides. 25 For whoever has [a teachable heart], to him more [understanding] will be given; and whoever does not have [a yearning for truth], even what he has will be taken away from him.”

    .
***Mark 4:25 The person “who has” is one who is receptive to God’s word, while the one “who does not have” is the person who is blind to and has rejected the spiritual truth and godly wisdom already given to him. As a result, even what little he had previously understood about Jesus will no longer be clear to him.
    .
    Matthew 5:6 Amplified Bible (AMP)
6 “Blessed [joyful, nourished by God’s goodness] are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness [those who actively seek right standing with God], for they will be [completely] satisfied.

=> How diligently do you study spiritual truth and apply Godly wisdom?
=> How hungry and thirsty are you to be in right standing with God?
.
Why did Jesus put this after the Sower Parable and before the explanation(Mt 13:1-9, 18-23)?

  • Think of the “depth” of the four soils
    • Soil by the wayside
    • Soil on stony places
    • Soil among the thorns
    • Soil on good ground

.
What does it mean to have a teachable heart?

  • How deep is your desire to study and apply God’s word? –Mk 4:24
  • Your desire/love for truth? –Mk 4:25; 2Thess 2:10
  • Mark 8:17-18 Amplified Bible (AMP)
17 Jesus, aware of this [discussion], said to them, “Why are you discussing [the fact] that you have no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened? 18 Though you have eyes, do you not see? And though you have ears, do you not hear and listen [to what I have said]? And do you not remember?
=>Symptoms of hard heart = unable to see(perceive), unable to understand, unable to hear, and unable to remember.
=>The Spirit opens eyes, ears, minds to perceive what God has prepared for those who love(obey) Him –1Cor 2:9-10;Is 64:3-4;Jn 14:15.
*** How desperate are you for the Spirit to open your understanding?
  • James 3:13-18Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. 15 This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. 16 For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. 18 And the seedwhose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
=>True fruit is marked by true wisdom and a love of the truth. It is pure and accompanied by righteousness, faith, love, and peace.
    .

    True Wisdom Earthly Wisdom
    Humble/Meek Prideful
    Pure Self Seeking Envy
    Peaceable Strife/Disorder
    Gentle Harsh
    Willing to Yeild Unteachable
     Full of Mercy(Compassion) Heartless
    Fruitful Unfruitful
    Sincere(Straightforward) Hypocite
    Impartial Favoritism

    .

1 Peter 1:18-23… you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. 20 For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you 21 who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.22 Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart, 23 for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.

The Sower, the Seed and Four Soils

March 20, 2019

Matthew 13:1-9 New King James Version (NKJV)
The Parable of the Sower
13 On the same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea. 2 And great multitudes were gathered together to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.

3 Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. 5 Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. 6 But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. 7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. 8 But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 9 He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
.

Who is the Sower? What is the seed? Four Soils?

  • Isaiah 55:9-11 New King James Version (NKJV)
9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.
10 “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
And do not return there, But water the earth,
And make it bring forth and bud,
That it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
    11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
  • The Sower – Jesus “sowing” – “drawing”
  • The Seed – God’s word, the message of the kingdom of God
  • The Soils – heart conditions, responses to God’s word, the message of the kingdom of God

=>How carefully are you considering, attending to Jesus’ message of the kingdom of God?

The Four Soils Explained

  • Matthew 13:18-23 New King James Version (NKJV)
The Parable of the Sower Explained
18 “Therefore hear the parable of the sower: 19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. 20 But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. 22 Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. 23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”
  • Soil by the wayside
=>no understanding = takes no time to consider message for themselves
=>Just follows the crowd – Broad is the way – well worn = no soil –Mt 7:13-14
  • Soil on stony places
=> no root so stumbles/is offended
Colossians 2:6-7 NLT … And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to live in obedience to Him{walk in Him}. 7 Let your roots grow down into Him{be firmly rooted} and draw up nourishment from Him, so you will grow in faith, strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with thanksgiving for all He has done.
  • Soil among the thorns
    =>choked and becomes unfruitful
    * Jesus “natural family” thought He was out of His mind –Mk 3:21
=>They did not yet believe in Him as the Messiah
and were actually hindering His work –Jn 7:4-6;Acts 1:14
    * This rejection by His own family was predicted –Ps 69:8;Mic 7:6;Mt 10:34-39
=>made me wonder which “soil” his natural family was — maybe the one choked out by thorns – the Pharisees/worlds strong opposition?!
    Matthew 7:15-16 Amplified Bible (AMP)
15 “Beware of the false prophets, [teachers] who come to you dressed as sheep [appearing gentle and innocent], but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them [that is, by their contrived doctrine and self-focus]. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles?
    Hebrews 5:11-14 Amplified Bible (AMP)
11 Concerning this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull and sluggish in [your spiritual] hearing and disinclined to listen.
  • Soil on good ground
=>hears, understands and heeds bears much fruit
    Luke 8:15 Amplified Bible (AMP)
15 But as for that seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word with a good and noble heart, and hold on to it tightly, and bear fruit with patience.
    Acts 17:11 Amplified Bible (AMP)
11 Now these people were more noble and open-minded than those in Thessalonica, so they received the message [of salvation through faith in the Christ] with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

=> Are you just following the crowd and relying on their understanding of Jesus’ message? How much time and effort do you take to personally consider His message?
=> How “firmly rooted” in God’s word are you? How much time and effort are you taking to be nourished and grow in His word?
=> Can you recognize and stand up to the “thorns” – false prophets/teachers? How “mature” are you?
=> How tightly are you holding to God’s word/ your faith under trials?  How steadfast is your patience/faith to bear fruit?

Brothers and Sisters

Matthew 12:46-50 New King James Version (NKJV)
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers Send for Him
46 While He was still talking to the multitudes, behold, His mother and brothers stood outside, seeking to speak with Him. 47 Then one said to Him, “Look, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak with You.”

48 But He answered and said to the one who told Him, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” 49 And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers! 50 For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.”

Jesus’ Mother and Brothers Come to Him
19 Then His mother and brothers came to Him, and could not approach Him because of the crowd. 20 And it was told Him by some, who said, “Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, desiring to see You.”

The Sign of Jonah

February 27, 2019

Matthew 12:38-42 New King James Version (NKJV)
The Scribes and Pharisees Ask for a Sign
38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.”

39 But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41 The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here. 42 The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here.

Supernatural signs and wisdom

  • Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks ask for wisdom v38, 41, 42
  • What might the motives of the Jews be?
They were testing Jesus.  –Mt 16:1
They seeking a sign of their own choosing while ignoring the signs Jesus performed{healing blind mute} fulfilling the scripture/prophecy –Isa 35:5-6
Satan also asked for a sign of His own choosing –Mt 4:6-7
  • We preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness –1Cor 1:22-23

Matthew 12:31-37 New King James Version (NKJV)
The Unpardonable Sin
31 “Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. 32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.

A Tree Known by Its Fruit
33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. 34 Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. 36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

  • *The Unpardonable Sin = Three things must be kept in mind:
    (1) the nature of the sin is to ascribe what is the obvious work of the Holy Spirit (e.g., releasing people from Satan’s power) to Satan himself;
    (2) it is not simply a momentary doubt or sinful attitude, but is indeed a settled condition which opposes the Spirit’s work{conviction}, as typified by the religious leaders who opposed Jesus; and
    (3) a person who is concerned about it has probably never committed this sin, for those who commit it here (i.e., the religious leaders) are not in the least concerned about Jesus’ warning.

Jesus Brings the Everlasting Kingdom

February 20, 2019

Matthew 12:22-30 New King James Version (NKJV)
A House Divided Cannot Stand
22 Then one was brought to Him who was demon-possessed, blind and mute; and He healed him, so that the blind and mute man both spoke and saw. 23 And all the multitudes were amazed and said, “Could this be the Son of David?”
24 Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, “This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.”
25 But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. 26 If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? 27 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. 28 But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you. 29 Or how can one enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house. 30 He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.

Jesus is the “son of David” the Messiah

  • What does the title “son of David” mean?
    • Jesus in the royal{legal} bloodline of Joseph makes Him:
The Messiah, the Son of David and the Son of Abraham.Mt 1
    • Jesus in the physical bloodline of Mary makes Him the promised seed(Gen 3:15)
=>The Son of God. –Lk 3:23-38
    • Jesus as the Messiah = fully God/fully man
Is the fulfillment of the prophecy of the seed from the line of David –2Sam 7:12-16
“Son of Man” is a prophetic description of the Messiah. His kingdom will have no end. –Dan 7:13-14
    • Jesus himself confirms He is the Messiah = fully God/fully man
How can Christ be David’s son and Lord? –Mark 12:35-37

Jesus is more powerful than Beelzebub

  • Jesus healed the blind mute by casting out the demon v22, 27
  • Jesus rebuked the “blind” Pharisees
  • Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil –1Jn 3:8
  • What keeps you from seeing and/or speaking the things of God and His kingdom?

Jesus brings and rules the everlasting kingdom of God

  • Demons cast out by Spirit{Finger} of God v28 –Lk 11:20
  • Confirms Jesus as Messiah who rules and reigns the everlasting kingdom of God
  • He who does not gather with Me scatters v30
  • Who rules your heart? Do you know Jesus as “King”? Are you gathering with Jesus?

From NetBible Mt 12:22

  • demon-possessed[1139] = to be under the power of a demon.
=>In the NT, these are persons, afflicted with especially severe
diseases, either bodily or mentally, (such as paralysis, blindness,
deafness, loss of speech, epilepsy, melancholy, insanity, etc.)
whose bodies in the opinion of the Jews demons had entered, and so
held possession of them as not only to afflict them with ills, but
    also to dethrone the reason and take its place themselves;
accordingly the possessed were wont to express the mind and
consciousness of the demons dwelling in them; and their cure was
thought to require the expulsion of the demon.

.
From NetBible Mt 12:24

  • Beelzebub[954] = “lord of the house”
=> a name of Satan, the prince of evil spirits

A Pleasing Servant

February 7, 2019

Matthew 12:15-21 NKJV
Behold, My Servant
15 But when Jesus knew it, He withdrew from there. And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all. 16 Yet He warned them not to make Him known, 17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:
18 “Behold! My Servant whom I have chosen,
My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased!
I will put My Spirit upon Him,
And He will declare justice to the Gentiles.
19 He will not quarrel nor cry out,
Nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets.
20 A bruised reed He will not break,
And smoking flax He will not quench,
Till He sends forth justice to victory;
21 And in His name Gentiles will trust.”

Hebrews 11:6But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
.
How diligently are you seeking the Lord?

  1. Seeking to find out what pleases Him?
    Ephesians 5:8-11 NKJV
    Walk in Light
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.
    .
    Galatians 1:9-10 NKJV
    Only One Gospel
9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. 10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.
  2. Seeking Him to judge righteously?
Do not judge according to appearance ––Jn 7:24
Do not judge unto condemnation ––Lk 6:37-39
Judge using God’s word to discern good from evil ––He 5:11-14;Mt 7:6
Judge to gently correct ––2Tim 2:24-26
  3. Seeking Him to encourage others to build their trust/hope in Jesus?
    Hebrews 12:12-13 NKJV
    Renew Spiritual Vitality
12 Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, 13 and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.

    2 Corinthians 1:3-5 NKJV
    Comfort in Suffering
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.

Rest in Jesus

January 14, 2019

Matthew 11:28-30Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
.
Two kinds of rest

  1. Simply “Come” to Jesus
    .
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. –Heb 4:14-16
    .
  2. Be “yoked”/walk and learn from Jesus
    * As we walk we, also walk together with others –Gal 6:2
    * Walk and live as children of the Light –Eph 5:6-11

.

.
What “steals” rest?

  1. Fear, doubt => not trusting the Lord {Trust/rely on Him alone –Pro 3:5-7}
  2. Not dwelling/abiding feeding on the Lord’s faithfulness/truth {Abide in Jesus and His Word –Jn 15:4-7}
  3. Not delighting/surrendering all to the Lord {Surrender petitions with prayer and thanksgiving –Phil 4:4-9}
  4. Not totally committing our plans to the Lord {Don’t trust in your own strength –Zec 4:6;Ps 20:7}
  5. Not waiting patiently for the Lord {keep in step –Gal 5:25; Be still and know –Ps 46:10}
  6. Fretting because someone prospers in the world’s way {Friend of world = enemy of God –Jam 4:4}
