From NetBible Prov 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding

  • Trust[0982] in the Lord = confidently rely/lean on the Lord
*here the object of the secure trust is the Lord who is a reliable object of confidence.
  • with all your heart[03820] = inner man, mind, will, understanding, soul, whole being, wholheartedly
  • lean not[08172] = rely not, trust not
*relying on one’s own understanding is compared to leaning on something that is unreliable for support
  • your own understanding[0998] = discernment, knowledge, wisdom
*inherent human understanding functions in relative ignorance unless supplemented by divine wisdom (Job 28:12-28; 39:26).
    * It is dangerous for a person to rely upon mere human wisdom (Prov 14:12; 16:25).

From NetBible Prov 3:6
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. NKJV

  • Acknowledge[03045] = know him
*includes mental awareness of who God is and the consequential submission to his lordship. To know him is to obey him. The sage is calling for a life of trust and obedience in which the disciple sees the Lord in every event and relies on him. To acknowledge the Lord in every event means trusting and obeying him for guidance in right conduct.
  • In all your ways[01870] = manner, habit, path
*This is a call for total commitment in trust for obedience in all things.
  • direct your paths[03474] = to be made level, be laid smoothly out
*This phrase means “to make the way free from obstacles,” that is, to make it successful. The straight, even road is the right road; God will make the way smooth for the believer.

Inquire First for the Word of the LORD!

March 29, 2013

1 Kings 22:1-8Three years passed without war between Aram and Israel. 2 In the third year Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel. 3 Now the king of Israel said to his servants, “Do you know that Ramoth-gilead belongs to us, and we are still doing nothing to take it out of the hand of the king of Aram?” 4 And he said to Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to battle at Ramoth-gilead?” And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”

5 Moreover, Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire first for the word of the Lord.” 6 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, “Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle or shall I refrain?” And they said, “Go up, for the Lord will give it into the hand of the king.” 7 But Jehoshaphat said, “Is there not yet a prophet of the Lord here that we may inquire of him?” 8 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the Lord, but I hate him, because he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.” But Jehoshaphat said, “Let not the king say so.”

Do not ask the Lord to bless what you’ve already decided
Or seek a word that agrees with what you’ve already decided
Inquire FIRST for the word of the Lord
Ask for His direction
Don’t rush the Spirit of the Lord
WAIT
To be lead by His mighty hand
Trust and obey!

Proverbs 3:5-6Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

Faith

November 20, 2011

Faith trusts and then sees.

Proverbs 3:5-6 CEV … With all your heart you must trust the Lord and not your own judgment. Always let Him lead you and He will clear the road for you to follow.

When you see great obstacles in the way ahead
Don’t stop walking
Continue forward one step a time and trust
Don’t focus on the obstacles and doubt
Trust the Lord with all your heart
He will make a way
And open a door before you.

Doubt sees the obstacles. Faith sees the way.

Doubt sees the darkest night. Faith sees the day.

Doubt dreads to take a step. Faith soars on high.

Doubt questions,’Who believes’ Faith answers,’I’.

……………………………………………………..-unknown

Faith is taking the first step
Even when you don’t see the whole staircase.

……………………………………………………..-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Hebrews 11:1 NLT … Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.

Expectantly Look

November 18, 2011

When you don’t know what to do
Wait while I open the door for you to go thru
Trust Me ……………………………..-Prov 3:5
Expectantly look to Me …………..-Ps 123:2
I will direct your steps …………..-Prov 3:6
You will go forward with joy
And be led forth with peace! …..-Isa 55:11-12

Have you ever been in a situation where circumstances were pressing in on you to act? Pressing circumstances make you want to flee. This is where I was recently; the Lord encouraged me with the above words. In response I started praying and singing to the Lord.

I will wait for You Lord
I will wait on You
I will wait for You Lord
Expectantly wait for You …

My singing was interrupted by a voice saying “Is that you Karen?”. I was stunned and looked to see who was speaking. How could this woman hear me, I was singing so softly? I went over to her and we started talking. She did not hear my song. As we spoke we talked of the Lord. All of a sudden she said “Trust the Lord!”. I knew this was the Lord speaking to me. He knew I was having a had time waiting for Him to make a way for me where there was no way. I also knew it was from the verse the Lord often uses to encourage me when I’m unsure of which way to go.

Proverbs 3:5-6 AMP … Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. 6In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.

I shared this with the woman. We were both filled with joy! The woman was glad to know the Lord used her to encourage me. And my heart was lifted knowing that the Lord heard me and was near me; He was helping me!

Psalm 28:7 AMP … The Lord is my Strength and my [impenetrable] Shield; my heart trusts in, relies on, and confidently leans on Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song will I praise Him.

After this my heart greatly rejoiced and I praised the Lord with my song even more. My circumstances are not yet changed but the Lord is helping me to wait and  expectantly look for His hand to open the door before me.

His Face Makes All Bright

May 30, 2011

Just this morning! I felt as if the Lord was saying to me –
(hope this encourages you too!)

Do not fear the darkness
The darkness is as light to Me
You need only to seek My face
Glory in My Holy name. -1 Chron 16:10-11

Behold, the Lord’s eye is upon those who fear Him [who revere and
worship Him with awe], who wait for Him and hope in His mercy and
loving-kindness. -Ps 33:18

I show My face
To the one who trusts Me with all their heart
To the one who acknowledges Me in all their ways -Prov 3:5-6

I will show My face
I will smile -Ps 44:3
And all will be bright. -Ps 34:5

Psalm 139:11-12 … If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me
and the night will be [the only] light about me, even the darkness is not dark to You, but the night shines as the day; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to You.

Psalm 139:10 … Even there Your hand will lead me, and Your right hand will hold me.

Numbers 6:24-26 … May the LORD bless and keep you; May the LORD make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; May He turn His face toward you and give you peace.

Established Steps

November 5, 2010

Psalm 40:2 NASB He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.

Psalm 37:23-24 NIV If the LORD delights in a man’s way, He makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with His hand.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22 AMP But it is God Who confirms and makes us steadfast and establishes us [in joint fellowship] with you in Christ, and has consecrated and anointed us [enduing us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit];
22[He has also appropriated and acknowledged us as His by] putting His seal upon us and giving us His [Holy] Spirit in our hearts as the security deposit and guarantee [of the fulfillment of His promise].

Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

Psalm 85:13 NKJV Righteousness will go before Him, And shall make His footsteps our pathway.

Word Study

NetBible Ps 40:2
firm[03559]
to be stable, to be established
to be prepared, be arranged, be settled
to fix, make ready, prepare, provide, provide for, furnish
to confirm

NetBible Ps 37:23-24
Footnote:
1 tn Heb “from the Lord the steps of a man are established, and in his way he delights.” The second line qualifies the first. The man whose behavior is commendable in God’s sight is the one whose ways are established by God. Another option is that the second line refers to the godly man delighting in God’s “way,” namely the lifestyle which he prescribes for men. In this case one might translate, “The Lord grants success to the one who desires to obey his commands.”

NetBible 2 Cor 1:21-22
establish [950]
to make firm, establish, confirm, make sure
From [949]
stable, fast, firm
metaph. sure, trusty
From [939]
a stepping, walking, that with which one steps, the foot, pace

NetBible Prov 3:5-6
footnotes:
1 sn The word בְּטַח (bÿtakh, “trust”) is used in the OT in (1) literal physical sense: to physically lean upon something for support and (2) figurative sense: to rely upon someone or something for help or protection (BDB 105 s.v. I בְּטַח; HALOT 120 s.v. I בטח). The verb is often used with false securities, people trusting in things that prove to be worthless. But here the object of the secure trust is the Lord who is a reliable object of confidence.

1 tn Heb “know him.” The verb יָדַע (yadah, “to know”) includes mental awareness of who God is and the consequential submission to his lordship. To know him is to obey him. The sage is calling for a life of trust and obedience in which the disciple sees the Lord in every event and relies on him. To acknowledge the Lord in every event means trusting and obeying him for guidance in right conduct.

NetBible Ps 85:13
footnote:
3 tn Heb “and it prepares for a way his footsteps.” Some suggest emending וְיָשֵׂם (vÿyasem, “and prepares”) to וְשָׁלוֹם(vÿshalom, “and peace”) since “deliverance” and “peace” are closely related earlier in v. 13. This could be translated, “and peace [goes ahead, making] a pathway for his footsteps” (cf. NEB).

This is comforting to me —
His peace goes ahead and makes a way
Trust the Lord Jesus Christ
Lean on Him
Delight in His way
He will establish your steps
and uphold you.
He will not let your foot slip or … -Ps 121:3
Let go of your hand!

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it! -1 Thess 5:23-24
