The Flowering of Praise

December 21, 2016

Isaiah 61:10-11I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. 11 For as the earth brings forth its bud, and as a garden cascades with blossoms, so the Sovereign LORD will bring righteousness into full bloom and praise to be flowering before all the nations.

The Tongue of the Wise

July 11, 2015

Proverbs 12:18 AMP
18 There are those who speak rashly{[0981]=thoughtless, angry}, like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

Proverbs 15:4 AMP
4 A gentle tongue [with its healing power] is a tree of life, but willful contrariness{perverse, deceitful } in it breaks down the spirit.

The tongue with rash words is a sharp sword.

My soul is among lions; I must lie among those who breathe forth fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows and their tongue a sharp sword.Ps 57:4

Who have sharpened their tongue like a sword. They aimed bitter speech as their arrow … -Ps 64:3

The tongue of the wise brings healing and life.

My son, attend to My words; consent and submit to My sayings. 21 Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart. 22 For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh. -Prv 4:20-22

Matthew 12:34 NASB
… the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.

Ps19_14

Prayer:
Psalm 19:14 NASB

Pleasing in Your Sight

February 25, 2015

Colossians 1:9-10 AMP
9 For this reason we also, from the day we heard of it, have not ceased to pray and make [special] request for you, [asking] that you may be filled with the full (deep and clear) knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom [in comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God] and in understanding and discernment of spiritual things—

10 That you may walk (live and conduct yourselves) in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him and desiring to please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing and increasing in and by the knowledge of God [with fuller, deeper, and clearer insight, acquaintance, and recognition].

A Song:
I long to be pleasing in Your sight
Pleasing in Your sight
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer

I long to be pleasing in Your sight
Held as the apple of Your eye
Safe and secure
Beneath Your mighty wings –Ps 17:8
I long to sing –Ps 63:7-8
Pleasing in Your sight
Pleasing in Your sight
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer

I long to be pleasing in Your sight
Pleasing in Your sight
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Song of Solomon 2:14 AMP
14 [So I went with him, and when we were climbing the rocky steps up the hillside, my beloved shepherd said to me] O my dove, [while you are here] in the seclusion of the clefts in the solid rock, in the sheltered and secret place of the cliff, let me see your face, let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely.

Psalm 19:14 AMP
14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my [firm, impenetrable] Rock and my Redeemer.

Harp Songs in the Night

Songs in the Night

January 21, 2012

Songs in the night
From a grateful heart
Songs of grace
Lifted up to God
The prayer of life
Jesus my shield
Light in the darkness
Christ my song.
-Ex 15:2;Ps 28:7

Psalm 42:8The LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime; And His song will be with me in the night—A prayer to the God of my life.

His song in the night – a prayer. I looked up the word for prayer. From NetBible Ps 42:8 it is [08065] – t@phillah. A few hebrew transltions read this as praise. Just look how close these words are. [08416] – t@hillah means a song or hymn of praise from [01984] halal to shine.

A song sung in the night, in darkness can only come from a heart that has been touched by the Lord. A grateful heart.

Job 35:10But no one says, ‘Where is God my Maker, Who gives songs in the night’

A grateful heart where the word of Christ richly dwells – from this heart comes songs of grace.

Colossians 3:16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Psalm 19:14Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.

From NetBible Ps 19:14;Ps 92:3 the word meditation – higgayown [01902] means resounding music, musing. In Psalm 92:3 higgayown refers to music made by a harp.

Let the word of Christ dwell richly in your heart and midst.
For out of the fullness (the overflow, the superabundance) of the heart the mouth speaks(Mt 12:34){prays, praises, sings}.
.
Psalm 77:6I will remember my song in the night; I will meditate with my heart, and my spirit ponders.
{prays,praises,ponders in song}

Pierced Ears

June 5, 2009

Psalm 40:6      Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but my ears you have pierced{opened}; burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require.

“Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but my ears you have pierced …” Some versions use pierced and some use opened. Either way, I didn’t get the connection – what do offerings have to do with pierced ears? Looking in the concordance:

Exodus 21:2-6        “If you buy a Hebrew servant, he is to serve you for six years. But in the seventh year, he shall go free, without paying anything. 3 If he comes alone, he is to go free alone; but if he has a wife when he comes, she is to go with him. 4 If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the woman and her children shall belong to her master, and only the man shall go free.

5 “But if the servant declares, ‘I love my master and my wife and children and do not want to go free,’ 6 then his master must take him before the judges. He shall take him to the door or the doorpost and pierce his ear with an awl. Then he will be his servant for life.

The law controlled slaves when slavery was a fact among the Israelites. There was a time limit of six years. After that, the slave was to go free. Then comes verse five; “But if the slave declares, ‘I love my master … and do not want to go free’, then his master must take him before the judges … and pierce his ear … then he will be his servant for life.

The pierced ear became a symbol (sign) of permanent possession. After that there would never be any doubt as to whose he was and whom he served.

Psalm 40:7-8      Then I said, “Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written of me. 8I delight to do Your *will, O my God; Your Law is within my heart.”

In verse 8, the Hebrew the word  ratsown[07522] is translated *will . It literally means “a voluntary favor” and comes from a root meaning “to satisfy” as in a debt. Jesus wasn’t forced to die for us, He did so voluntarily.  Jesus willingly to gave His life in payment of our debt. It was His delight to do what pleased His Father.

So it seems that the psalmist is saying in effect that the Lord does not desire our gifts and services. He desires us. He desires us to commit ourselves whole heartedly to Him because we love him and want to belong to Him. His desire is that we delight to do His will and treasure His word in our hearts.

He in turn would have us desire Him, not just His gifts or what He can do for us. Our gifts to Him, and His to us, follow love based on personal relationship. For without this love, all gifts are meaningless.

Psalm 119:11    Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You.

Proverbs 22:17-19      Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge. For it is pleasing when you keep them in your heart and have all of them ready on your lips. So that your trust may be in the LORD.

Psalm 19:14      May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.
